  1. @ stripey sorry i meant professional mastering not mixing. as to the general mix/recording of a (demo) track, i would agree with that you want it to sound as good as possible, again for the reasons you mentioned i.e. having it stand out on myspace from the thousand of other bands on myspace. most of the bands i've heard that i like, have good recordings. however they may have been properly mastered; a lot of them definitely have... i'm not sure about all of them. in addition to bands not knowing what they're doing (which i guess you're implying here) i think money will still come into it. much as if you see a band live, they're going to sound a fair bit better playing through high end guitars and good valve amps than korean ones through solid states (in general). i doubt it's through choice, but needs must.
  2. i think its simply that most bands would have a hard time affording professional mixing and that to have it done for a demo track isn't really money well spent
  3. diezel said in the other thread that its 'absolutely unbelievable'. i wouldn't mind hearing some more about it as well
  4. ah yes i said this could get messy
  5. haha, tis an opinion probably shared by a lot here, not sure you want to get them started (i pretty much agree mind)
  6. http://www.aberdeen-music.com/forums/music-discussion/43941-10-easy-wishes-news-uk-dates-single.html according to that thread 10ew had a track mastered by robin sutherland, whos in dundee... if that counts as 'the north east'
  7. nice! my favourite video of late is not as fancy but probably no less wierd
  8. shouldn't be done in my opinion.
  9. for some. others like playing guitar for its own sake... learning songs, jamming around at home and stuff

    Your current read?

ahab is indeed a crazy guy. to be honest i skipped a lot of the parts where hes going off on a tangent about whales, as it bored the shit out of me. i prefer the parts where ahab is stalking the deck, waving burning harpoons around and generally scaring his own crew... im reading whisky galore by compton mackenzie, the scramble for africa by thomas pakenham and slowly plodding through war and peace
  11. they didn't say they didn't plan to use it. as cloud pointed out, many jobs require a degree, but not in a specific dicipline. having an arts degree (supposedly) shows you're intelligent, can manage your time, do your own research, etc
  12. yeah its just the average (of the courses that actually count...)
  13. the cookie monster vocals aren't really my thing, but some of the guitar work on there is cool as fuck, the melodic leads in particular
  14. at aberdeen at least your given a mark out of 20. for arts courses it's simpler than making up a percentage, although i think its the same for sciences.
  15. just mine as well, still on course for a 2:1 in english as well.
  16. so how many amps do you two have? o_O
  17. i pretty much agree that its not progressive or expreimental at all, but again the vocals are good.

    Al Murray

i like the pub landlord... (stand up, not chat show or whatever it is)
  19. pretty much everyone i've played with in aberdeen wanted to do stuff like that. never came to anything mind 8-)
  20. i own hardly any gear. basically i use one korean guitar and a starter 10 watt amp to practice. i have a jcm800 for playing with other people, not going to use that much in my flat obviously.... i've also had a couple of behringer multi-fx things, but (surprise) they broke. i wouldn't say lack of gear affects the ammount of time i practice; its more to do with how many other distractions i have. i go through phases where i have nothing else to do and get really into playing, doing so up to several hours a day. sometimes however i get a bit bored, get obsessed with pro evolution or whatever and of course often i just don't have that ammount of time available. that said, for most of the time i've played i didn't care about gear, i was just interested in the playing side. the best amps amd guitars are worthless if you can't play them well; similarly a good guitarist will sound good through anything in my opinion.
  21. not me... largely due to lack of money rather than abundance of talent...
  22. personally i think playing with travis barker would be awesome.
