  1. why you would you pay any attention to that rolling stone list or whatever it is? cobain is one of the few technically limited rock players whose playing i really like (i.e. for its own sake rather the song writing).
  2. i like it, not a massive departure from the original though is it? just beefed up the drums, i think, haven't listened to the original for a while.
  3. depends on the style of music, and whether you're using other effects imo
  4. yeah i know that. i should have put that i think adding a bit of gain for solos is fine and would be my preference to getting a pedal just to boost it a bit. i know the op said hes not necessarily after more gain, but i think he said it would be acceptable... i was just agreeing with jan deal who suggested he try it out. also in my opinion turning down the volume only greatly reduces gain and 'body' if you turn it way down... and of course the idea is you have the volume on the guitar rolled back slighly most of the time (for your 'ordinary' distorted sound) then turn it up for solos.
  5. i second just using the volume on the guitar. i disagree that it negatively affects the tone... i would think adding more pedals to your rig would have more of an effect in that respect
  6. i don't think they're overrated. haven't listened to their stuff for a while, used to love them though
  7. i didn't, woke up at like half 10. bugger o_O
  8. sadly i don't have any bass gear... nor have i even tocuhed a bass more than once or twice ever good luck finding a bass player though, unfortunately they seem to be even rarer than drummers round these parts
  9. if you cant find a complete band, i'd be interested in starting a jazz/fusion project of some sort. i share a couple of influences there, frank gambale, mike stern to an extent... i've been looking at starting a bluesier fusion band (e.g scott henderson), but something like chick corea or even angular holdsworth-esque stuff would be cool with me (think i can manage it....) if you prefer that. might be up for some vaguely prog/metal antics as well... my rock influences don't match up quite as well with the bands you listed but it would be fun to try some stuff out. anyway if your holding out to join a complete band thats cool otherwise send me a pm
  10. this is slipping to the bottom of the page at an alarming rate o_O nobody interested in some bluesy antics?
  11. i'm interested in a blues fusion sorta band http://www.aberdeen-music.com/forums/musicians/45056-blues-rock-band-anyone.html
  12. i concur that the music in exodus is stupidly loud. only been in there a few times though
  13. i've noticed people have more success finding people if they're specific about the sound they're after so: anyone up for a blues and/or rock band? potential blues band would hopefully have a modern approach, trying to mix in elements of rock, jazz, funk etc rather a purist approach. at the heart of it would be a classic sort of SRV/hendrix/three kings sound and trying to bring other elements in the vein of robben ford or scott henderson. these are maybe guitar-centric examples... any influences would be welcome. potential rock band would hopefully be something in the vein of janes addiction, tool, soundgarden, maybe smashing pumpkins... atmospheric chord work, big riffs, fiery but tasteful solos (ooh controversial... im not budging on the solos though 8-) ) again this is guitar-wise... other influences welcome if they can vaguely fit in with the sound. note some odd-time stuff might be in order, although i can't really be arsed with 'shifting' time signatures (i.e changing it every other bar) so nothing too intricate will be needed. im just kind of testing the water at the mo, won't be able to get anything moving for at least a week
  14. we used to have to reset our home hub several times a day. just used to stop connecting, no idea why.
  15. what does dad rock have to with 12 bar blues? o_O
  16. why is it a silly comparison? i know graphics are irrelevant with these old games, that was my point... why do you want to buy a version with slighly tweaked graphics? in my opinion, sensible soccer while it was one of my favourite games at the time, has not aged well and i don't see why you would want to play it over pro evolution (for example). and its not just because of the graphics... the whole physics of pro evolution are more complex and realistic than sensi, making the gameplay more fun. again this is my personal opinion, so i guess we can agree to disagree. you can get the mega drive version (probably amiga version as well) for free from the internet. yes not really legal, but making money off obsolete video games is ridiculous... i owned the original at one point anyway. i just don't see why you'd want to pay (what is it, like a tenner?) for probably five minutes of nostalgia. but again if you think its worth it then go ahead, i was 'just saying'.
  17. i think its just the same, with slightly better graphics (which will still of course be terrible o_O) and online mode, which is again not that special considering you can play a 2 player on 1 machine without split screen, and xbox live is shit. just paying an unneccesary ammount for the sake of nostalgia in my opinion, same with all the old games on live arcade (or whatever its called). but if you think its worth it then whatever
  18. hasn't aged that well. not quite as good as pro evolution...
  19. you might have a hard time finding someone who can play like brian setzer, what a legend that guy is
  20. loads of people use these for home recording. they're cheap (about 40 2nd hand, maybe 70 new), versatile and sound really good for the price. i also read that the sennheiser 421 is really good. its like 3 times the price though (still good value... fairly cheap for a mic i think) edit: for staring out you could get some behringer mics or something. probably pretty terrible though
  21. half the replies in the thread have said the same thing... i would agree with getting some free software recorder/sequencer etc and basic soundcard/mics just to experiment at first. assuming you have a computer some software i've seen recommended on a few guitar forums. not sure how good it is but its free. Audacity: Free Audio Editor and Recorder kristal i think i've also seen recommended
  22. probably, if you had time/money to wade through enough albums each week looking for them
  23. to advertise it before hand... schoolboy error really
