  1. The Anne Briggs is wonderful - perhaps the best record to start with of hers. I'd love to have seen her play live. Maybe she'll come out of retirement one of these days, perhaps encouraged by the renewed interest in her music. The BPB one is very good, although perhaps I'm just saying that because it reminds me of his show at the Lemon Tree. It's probably worth getting just for the title track alone. Vivian Girls are very entertaining. Some of their songs remind me of Tiger Trap, whose only album is well worth digging out.
  2. I saw Battles at a festival a couple of years ago and walked off bored after about ten minutes. I was a long way from being alone in doing this.
  3. I've also been enjoying this one. Plus: Headless Heroes "The Silence of Love" Anne Briggs "The time has come" Bonnie Prince Billy with Harem Scarem and Alex Neilson "Is it the sea?" Vivian Girls Teacups, from Auckland NZ, on Myspace
  4. That news is, dare I say it, a bit 'Eartha Kitt'.
  5. Juana Molina's probably the only person working in music at the moment that I'd be tempted to call a genius. I think she's pretty incredible and she doesn't get a huge amount of attention as far as I can tell, so I guess I don't really agree about her being overrated! Her more recent stuff takes a while to get into though. Son probably took me a couple of years to really get familiar with and the new album will probably be similar. Maybe it should be Dr Owl, but it's from the name of a comic character from Doug Allen's 'Steven', which is not really noted for being technically correct on most things. It's quite funny though.

  8. I got one a few days ago and a friend of mine bought one today, apparently successfully.
  9. Predictably unpredictable but actually very good for the short time they were playing. Curious support band - I guess very rapidly arranged.
  10. I've been birding since I was 6, which is a fair while ago now. Aberdeen is very good I reckon.
  11. I'm away then too, but it looks like it's sold out anyway.
  12. Would love to see Rachel Unthank here. Saw them at Green Man last year and they were one of the highlights. Try not to make it before October though
  13. Rather too strong a team for Ireland it seems. Cricinfo - New Zealand crush hapless Irish

  15. A Hawk and a Hacksaw were magnificent last night. Hope they return again soon. Thanks to them and to IMP for another fine night's entertainment.
  16. A very good show last night and a perfect antidote to the disappointing football from earlier in the evening! Thanks to all concerned.

  18. Yeah JayZ: no "Wheels on the Bus", no chance.
  19. I was really impressed with Meursault. Best new Scottish band I've heard in a while. Thanks for putting the show on and I hope to see them up here again soon.
  20. I like them and saw them at the Green Man festival last year, where they went down very well. I think they played Aberdeen supporting Tiny Dancers last year, but I was away then. I'd recommend a look at their videos, which are very entertaining.
  21. According to a forensic expert, identifying someone from body parts "can be like solving a jigsaw puzzle". BBC NEWS | Scotland | Tayside and Central | 'It is like solving a jigsaw puzzle' Hmm...
  22. Mary Hampton "My Mother's Children" David Thomas Broughton "The complete guide to insufficiency" New Audrey tunes on Myspace (has somebody asked them to come back here soon?)
  23. Wonderful evening - my only regret is that each of the acts didn't play for longer. And that they're not all playing here every week. Just listening to Mary's new album. An instant classic.
