  1. That's actually pretty good of them. I can now listen to their album without feeling annoyed.
  2. To be fair I got an email from APA because I'd already bought a ticket. It would be good if the Unthanks put something on their website.
  3. They'll probably come out with some excuse like 'reaching a wider audience by doing this' or something like that. But no, it's not really forgiveable.
  4. The Unthanks cancelled their gig in Aberdeen this week so they can be on this show. I really don't like Jools Holland.
  5. I quite like that picture. Torry wouldn't be the same without a few discarded shopping trolleys.
  6. I'm surprised there's been no mention of Eurovision Song Contest winner "Save all your kisses for me" by Brotherhood of Man. Although I'm sure the song is very innocent really it's rather open to misinterpretation - at least the killer final line. I always like the 'modern' take on it by Kenickie:
  7. I was quite impressed with the astronomical clock when I was there last month. You need to be there on the hour when it chimes. Not sure if that's the sort of entertainment you had in mind.
  8. I should make it. Quite enjoyed Strike the Colours on Marc Riley the other evening.
  9. I really enjoyed Slow Club last night. A proper all round variety performance. Life enhancing stuff. Cate Le Bon seemed a bit introverted, as if she didn't really expect anyone to be interested in her songs. I'd really like to see her with a full band - she's a terrific songwriter.
  10. I went to Spice Dabba on Belmont Street a few months ago and was impressed. South Indian stuff with really big dosas.
  11. Anyone see this? If not then you can watch it on the iplayer: BBC iPlayer - Jonathan Meades: Off Kilter: Episode 1 It's mostly about Aberdeen's architecture but manages to be quite entertainingly controversial.
  12. The Guardian even get their film critic on this: The horror of public information films | Peter Bradshaw | Film | guardian.co.uk I notice some of the comments mention the film Apaches, about the dangers of farms (!). I remember getting shown this at school. It was really quite something.
  13. Went to see 'Broken Embraces' last night. I quite enjoyed it, although it's nowhere near Almodovar's best. It didn't seem to hang together that well and so his usual trick of making the implausible seem plausible didn't really work.
  14. I've always been rather troubled by REM's version of Ghost Rider:
  15. You might have a point actually.
  16. You're maybe thinking of Jarmila Kratochvilova, who was Czech, and is still 800m world record holder. There were lots of suspicions of her at the time, but not of the drugged up East Germans she used to beat. It seems she was clean (and a woman) after all. Here's the lovely lady:
  17. Dazed and Confused is maybe my favourite - I don't seem to tire of watching it anyway. I kind of like films where nothing much happens but in an entertaining way. My other favourite is Vacas, a Spanish film made by Julio Medem. It's really 'poetic' and strangely beautiful. One of those films you see something new in every time you watch it.
  18. Guardian report which quotes various relatives and people who knew her as a child: Caster Semenya's mother hits out at gender dispute | Sport | guardian.co.uk I feel quite sorry for her. Or him.
  19. I suppose the good thing about this morning is that Australia will be really kicking themselves that they didn't pick Stuart Clark earlier in the series.
  20. The classic Brighton & Hove Albion pink Nobo shirt.
