  1. Palace Songs (Will Oldham) "Christmastime in the mountains" - I think this is a cover so there may be other versions. I've got a split single by Velocity Girl and Tsunami with a Christmas song on each side. The Tsunami one is good. A very Christmasy song is 'Don't forget the Halo' by Grenadine (sung by Jenny out of Tsunami). I've got a copy somewhere but it's probably hard to find. I remember Peel doing a Christmas special one year (maybe about five years ago). You might be able to find a tracklisting somewhere for it.
  2. Probably my favourite too. Others that were good: Hidden The wind that shakes the barley Pierrepoint Little Miss Sunshine Volver And several others I can't remember off the top of my head. A Scanner Darkly would have been on the list if it hadn't had Keanu Reeves in it.
  3. God: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N00_K68czIg
  4. Not sure but amongst them: The Knife - Silent Shout Rose Kemp - A handful of hurricances Audrey - Visible forms The Memory Band - Apron Strings Nina Nastasia - On leaving Plus loads of other stuff I've probably forgotten.
  5. Very impressed with the video. Shame I didn't go to this, even though I enjoyed the contrasting pleasures of CSS. Try to get Pumajaw back asap.
  6. Quite entertaining I thought. Here's a live recording from Holland. Don't know if it helps to get over not seeing them here or makes it worse: http://3voor12.vpro.nl/speler/ondemand/30208656
  7. Thanks to Sharon for organising a wonderful show. I was really looking forward to Audrey and they didn't disappoint. Managed to drag a fair number of mates along, with varying musical tastes, and they all seemed impressed. I think Audrey are the sort of band that work on a lot of levels!
  8. Recently got 'Meet next life' and its top notch. Looking forward to this, and to a weekend spent at the Peacock by the looks of it.
  9. I'd like to go to this, although I'm having wrong thoughts (in every respect) about going to see Cansei de ser sexy at Moshulu the same night. I'm I right to be wrong?
  10. Am I the only one reminded of this article in reading this thread? http://www.theonion.com/content/node/29494
  11. Dear God, I hope this is a hoax. If it is it's still a pretty sick wind up. *checks BBC site* Arse.
  12. Err, well I'm not a student these days (although I like to think I can still pass as one) and it didn't seem to be a problem.
  13. Haven't looked at it properly (just read the abstract in fact!) but it looks a fairly weird article. For a start it's written by an economist and a management consultant, who don't strike me as being the best qualified to do this sort of research (I reckon I'm probably better qualified!). The abstract mostly seems to relate TV viewing habits to rainy weather, so it's really arguing that autism tends to arise a bit more frequently if it rains a lot, because kids are (presumably) inside watching the telly more. I dunno.
  14. I was wondering that too, but one of my friends said he noticed they had various alcoholic drinks available from the coffee place on the ground floor. Handy if you want to knock a few back before those early morning lectures I suppose.
  15. Okay so the Hub's finally open and I just paid my first visit. Some thoughts: 1. It's a bit nearer my office than other places 2. A cup of tea isn't too much of a rip off and came with a nice wafer 3. The shop didn't seem to have very much in it 4. Why would you want to get your hair cut where everyone having a coffee can see you? 5. It seemed a bit too warm to me 6. Lots of the usual indie/ rock suspects on the TV Anyone else as overwhelmingly excited as I seem to be?
  16. 17 Senseless Things, Black Lion, Northampton 1989. Old in every respect.
  17. Managed to catch the last two acts at this after going to see the Handsome Family. Rose Kemp was fantastic - incredible voice and a great mix of material.
  18. Anyone else like Office Space? Even Jennifer Anniston can't stop it being really funny.
  19. As nobody else has mentioned, just a quick thank you to IMP and to Wixel for being so entertaining and excellent. Liking the album too.
  20. Bonnie Prince Billy Maher Shalal Hash Baz et al Arab Strap/Tape/My Latest Novel/Kieran Hebden & Steven Wells All at the Lemon Tree this year.
  21. You're right about that being a Sparrowhawk and so probably being more interested in small birds than squirrels. Peregrines breed around Aberdeen, so you can quite regularly see them zooming over the city, terrorising the pigeons. Nice to see a few pictures of my relations.
  22. Alonso because he was playing for Liverpool, whereas Beckham was playing for some bunch of tossers. Partisan answer for you there.
  23. Just got 'On Leaving' the new Nina Nastasia record. How great is she.
  24. There's only one Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink...
