  1. Am I right in thinking they're supported by the very good Slow Club?
  2. I was there last night and was really impressed. I only got to hear of them a couple of months ago, so don't their work that well. I think they make more sense to me now and I shall be tracking down some more of their records. They didn't play a particularly long set but it was really tight and varied. A great place to see them as well.
  3. 'Gold Fever' I think it's called. Made by Ruth out of the band.
  4. That looks tempting. I see there's talk of them touring in the autumn. Any chance IMP might look into this?

Following the GMTV phone in scandal, Man United are suing UEFA for allowing them to enter a competition they had no chance of winning UEFA have decided there will be a play off for 3rd and 4th place for this years's Champions League. Both the losing semi finalists will be invited to participate. It will be called The FA Cup Final. Police have issued a statement in connection with the person they want to interview with regard to the ransacking of Pepe Reina's house whilst he was at Anfield. The chief suspect is one Frank Lampard who is alleged to have gone missing from about 7.45 pm on Tuesday 1st May.
  6. Also Slint playing Spiderland at the Barrowlands on 20th. I got my ticket yesterday.
  7. To be honest it was probably the lowest turnout I've seen for them in Aberdeen. Maybe a combination of Monday night, post Triptych and them playing in Banchory. They seemed to start off slowly but the audience was pretty enthusiastic and that seemed to get them going a bit. They finished with Delila (Tom Jones).
  8. I got my tea towel signed by the whole band too. And they have 'Free beer for Tom Weir' badges.
  9. I wasn't sure what to expect from Damo Suzuki but was really impressed. Mesmerising sound and very good visuals. Thanks to all involved.
  10. I don't seem to get on with in-ear headphones so got the Sennheiser PX200, which is fairly cheap from Amazon. They're very good, particularly on public transport where they keep outside noise out and music in.
  11. Quite funny last night, I thought.
  12. You probably only missed a few songs - they didn't play a very long set. It was all good though. In the spirit of the evening, I'd also like to say how much I enjoyed the great new great lager from Tenants. It was great.
  13. I thought it was okay but not really that funny. It struck me as being clever and well made but not really having much 'soul' (indefinable I know). I'm also thinking that Simon Pegg and co are moving inexorably into the mainstream and that, I fear, means they're not going to be as funny in future. It's a bit like when they move comedies from BBC2 to BBC1 - you know they probably won't be worth watching anymore because they're trying to appeal to too broad an audience.
  14. Nice article by Stewart Lee about Ted here: Stewart Lee on comedian Ted Chippington | The Guide | Guardian Unlimited Your reactions are not unusual.
  15. Anyone have an opinion on the great Ted Chippington? Someone who you have to 'get' to find funny I suppose. YouTube - Ted Chippington - She Loves You and Interview
  16. Also Slint playing Spiderland. Which might be quite good.
  17. Very good Alan - thanks. Don't know if you've heard Lisa Knapp's record yet. It's not out yet but I bought a copy from Lisa herself the other week when I saw her in Glasgow. It's a bit of a winner.
  18. Of late I've been listening to: Lisa Knapp 'Wild and undaunted' Barbara Morgenstern 'The grass is always greener' Burial 'Burial' Anne Briggs 'Collection' Scout Niblett 'Sweet heart forever' Kama Aina 'Club Kama Aina' Robert Pollard 'Normal happiness' James Blackshaw 'O true believers' (someone I saw at the first IMP show I went to) Meg Baird, Helena Espvall & Sharron Kraus 'Leaves from off the tree' David Shrigley 'Forced to speak with others' Sagor & Swing 'Orgelfarger' and 'Orgelplaneten' Nancy Elizabeth Cunliffe 'The wheel turning king' Vashti Buntan 'Lookaftering'
  19. Lianne Hall would be good, and apparently she's planning a tour at the moment and looking for gigs www.myspace.com/liannehall Also: Lisa Knapp, Barbara Morgenstern, Vashti Bunyan, Juana Molina, Nancy Elizabeth Cunliffe, The Memory Band, James Blackshaw, Sharron Kraus, Dave Shrigley, the Konki Duet
  20. I'm sorry I'll be missing this (have to go to my mum's birthday do down south instead!) but it looks really good. I was lucky enough to see the great man himself while he was still around. I trust that noise levels will be kept respectfully low, in keeping with Ivor's enthusiasm for the Noise Abatement Society?
  21. Spiderland by Slint. The record by which all others are judged.
  22. Really sad. One of the first bands I was ever really into. A genuinely good guy and a fine songwriter.
  23. Birdforum, not surprisingly.
  24. There's also a Christmas album by the Roches called 'We three kings'. I haven't heard it but I expect it's worth a listen.
