  1. I actually think it's very good.
  2. I was gutted in missing Colon Open-bracket, due to them being after my last bus. Sam - Not really my cup of tea at all. Seemed a little unprepared; too many forgotten songs or lyrics. Holy Folks - Quite liked them actually. Catchy, pleasant tunes. Only constructive criticism would be to keep practciing ana dgain more consistency/confidence; it seemed evident which were your" stronger" songs, or the ones you felt most comfortable with. FATRB - Embarassing. Really. Seemed a tad disorganised and some of the material appeared to be delivered in a really sketchy manner. I see what you're going for I just didn't think you pulled it off or were paticularly funny. Some of the songs seemed too immature. Cut some of the banter and tighten up a bit. I noticed that all bands seemed to have longer than the "average" 30 minute set. This really made the evening drag along. After that length of time all the bands started to get a bit tedious and I was just waiting for the next act. Maybe I'm just a bit bitter about missing Colon, but it did seem as though shorter sets would have kept the evening rolling.
  3. If not taking stands be sure to take sleeves felts and wing-screws. There are rarely any at venues and your cymbals could seriously suffer if you don't use them.
  4. Looks like a great gig, well done. I wouldn't mind seeing it either.
  5. From previous workshops in a similar vein, I know that many people could do with going along. There's a lot to learn and avoiding getting fucked by the industry/knowing your rights etc. is unlikely to do anyone harm! Tell anyone you know who may be interested to come along.
  6. Sabian have a warranty replacement affair don't they? I think it's pretty much no quibble, if it's cracked within 1 year of purchase.
  7. The problem here is that in general the thinner a cymbal is the darker it will be. So if you want a thicker crash I.e. a power crash you're going to have a harder time finding the ones with a darker edge, as they will all tend to have a fairly sharp quality. In terms of dark cymbals the Paiste signature fast crashes are utterly gorgeous, yet pricey. The best cymbals I've ever heard. Sabian's HHX Evolution crashes are quite nice too. The only problem being that they are both quite thin. Bruce Millers seems to have both in most of the time so check them out. They also had a slightly thicker yet dark Meinl Byzance crash in around 7 months ago. Corker of a cymbal, at an alright price. However I'm steering clear of Meinl following a couple of troubles with them, and fairly bad customer support. Remember though that in some cases having a really thick cymbal tends to mean a rigid cymbal; slightly thinner cymbals are better at distributing the strike. With good technique you should be fine unless you really are a very heavy hitter/ use really thin cymbals. I've seen around 300% more cracked power/heavy crashes than say a medium weight crash. To give yourself some pointers why not check out all the online soundclips? Paiste, Zildjian an Sabian all have them.
  8. In Flames, reckon I'll have to try and see that, providing exams aren't in the way.
  9. Really good pedals. I find it strange playing others now due to the sheer different feel of AXIS. Stick in with them though, it can take a while to alter your playing style a little.
  10. Yeah, I don;t think many people will deny that there will be a fairly rowrdy crowd at many "metal" gigs. But the discussion here is more focused on thse who don't follow such etiquette, a cohort of which seemed to turn up last night. As many people were going about their "thrash" with no respect for others. And as for the suggestion of standing back, I didn't realise that the "pit" has the right to be directly in front of the band, without the hassle of other patrons.
  11. I'll second that. As far as I could see the guy being removed hadn't done that much, it started with him being told to calm down, but I don't thin he could understand what theb bouncer was saying to him with all the noise. I may well have missed a retaliation or something but next time I glanced round he was being brutally pushed flat on the floor and dragged out of the building, literally headfirst I believe. I will also mention though, that there appeared to be cunts in abundance at this gig. I was in the front "line" or three and some bastard came flying into the back of me, certainly felt fist/elbow first and struck me clean in the base of the spine. Intentional or not, utter arsehole.
  12. That's some lovely gear. Congratulations. The K Custom ride is a corker.
  13. Down beside the toilets a wall and part of the ceiling have been broken through. It is a real shame that cunts like that can and do ruin live music for others.
  14. Thanks a lot everyone! Oh and Liam, I think I have most of your set on video.
  15. That would have been our second in total; the first with our new guitarist.
  16. So then, who was there and what did you think? I thought it was a great night, very busy. We [Ruinous] could have played better, but it's all about getting used to the stage as opposed to the practice room, which will of course come very soon. It was great showcasing some of our new tunes. Critique is more than welcomed, as we need to get some honest feedback! I'll promise not to be a total cunt.
  17. 14 cans is acually a stupid amount. I think I'm right in saying one can holds twice your daily recommended allowance of caffeine, something absurd like that anyway. For your own good you should cut down. You'll see in a couple of years.
  18. I would appreciate some pictures, I am fairly interested too.
  19. I keep forgetting to watch the new series. Peep Show is hilarious.
  20. The actual bar at the gym I used to go to had a mass of 20Kg. I'm pretty weak, but in a month and a half I got up to about 27Kg or something. I was doing tricep presses though.
  21. Yeah I had to nip off at the end of Smackdown too, I was looking forward to Filthpact too. Gutted. A great gig, The Neuk was really quite good too.
