  1. *sigh* perhaps I should stop being so general. I'll hold my hands up to that one. The way you were wittering on it appeared to the casual observer that all you ever want to hear is metal.
  2. well big fucking deal. you have a stereo at home go use it. I've spent a lot of time in one-up over the years and they play lots of metal. But you have to consider that as a business they can't blast the heavy stuff out all day as it'll stop people coming in the shop. I don't see how it's a double standard at all to sell a style of music but not play it, the two things are seperate. And aside from that maybe the staff don't want to listen to metal. It's a perk of their job, they get to listen to music that's not piped in from a head office somewhere so it may as well be something they actually like.
  3. woohoo, good news. I really need to stop by and discuss pickups at some point...
  4. my first real exposure (not include a dodgy copy of an ablum I had lying around tape but ignored) to the wildhearts was through their singles. seeing them on top of the pops with a cool skull and crossbones guitar playing "I wanna go where the people go".
  5. the stuff on those samples sounds much better, to me, than the stuff I saw you playing supporting idlewild a few years back and a couple of times since. You'll always disappoint people by changing style, no more matter how slightly, but you also pick some people up along the way. Looking forward to seeing laeto at the drakes gig now whereas before I was just looking forward to drinking through laeto at drakes...
  6. er, as a compromise how about a ground floor window? with a mattress on the other side?
  7. *watches his theory of not drinking too much on saturday go flying out the window*
  8. Terrorvision at the music hall
  9. Lemon Tree for the Dedalus/Politk EP launch. Dedalus | Politic | The Gloria Flaw | Masamune | Nick HG#1 I think The Gloria Flaw will be selling their EP on the night as well. The Dedalus tracks on the split EP are some of the best sounding songs I've heard come out of Exile and their sneaky peak set at drakes a couple of weeks ago was fucking ace (for the 5 people that showed up anyway). There IS time on the night to get along to the lemon tree after the curfew at Kef and it will be money well spent.
  10. they played the lemon tree a few years back supporting Tura Satana
  11. Last night's fudge gig was superb fun. Late additions to the bill My Minds Weapon were first up and I enjoyed there set more in the close confines of drakes than the first time I saw them in Moshulu. Small Enclosed Area were fucking ace. I really have no idea why it's been so long since I've seen them. Must try harder on my part I suppose. Didn't really know what to expect from Broken Oath. But I didn't really expect the tiny girl that had been floating about to saunter up to the stage, pick up the microphone and then scream for scotland. They were awesome. Definitely going to look out for their return.
  12. worth it for Small Enclosed Area and Sucioperro.
  13. from a stage you can't really see the back of the room. if everyone's standing up the back it seems like you are playing to no-one. It's hard for a band to give their all if the only thing they can see is a great big empty space in front of them.
  14. have to say I'm a bit partial to the chips and doner from the place beside kef
  15. http://web.archive.org/web/20010628150344/www.alphabetty.co.uk/hifi/index.htm The web archive is a wonderful thing...
  16. http://web.archive.org/web/19971015105810/http://www.scooter.demon.co.uk/adie/yoof.htm (you might have to click and drag across the page to read most of the text) I think the internet has changed things, it's certainly killed the zine in the classic sense. Online zines seem to cater less to the local stuff and instead try and review more of the name stuff instead (maybe they've just wised up to the availability of free cd's if you review them). And they don't seem to be as much fun as the old zines were.
