  1. A musical pioneer- but not much of a role model, if you're looking for that. I guess black guys of that generation had every reason to be bitter and suspicious, mind...........
  2. Can't believe this is still for sale, after a week. It's an Amp for Life- PTP, with all the classic Fender tones....... and you can record all the bass parts of your concept album through it, in between gigs
  3. The documentary about their Canadian tour was great. Primitive and bluesy......... in a good way.
  4. The Captain died on friday, aged 69, after a long illness. Singer, horn and harp player, artist, poet, long-time Zappa associate and legendary band leader, Don Van Vliet was a very strange person and great performer, on record but particularly in concert. Don't know where to start categorising his music, for the uninitiated. Free-form psychotropic blues? Howling Wolf meets John Coltrane, on a subway platform? He was one of my early musical heroes. It's a sad weekend.
  5. Wasn't this guy looking to sell a Martin HD28 as well? Hmm........
  6. Strawberry Alarm Clock The Slits Wayne County & the Electric Chairs Kathleen Turner Overdrive
  7. All the 70s Ry Cooder and Little Feat stuff. It's slide guitar heaven.
  8. British Blues Awards Well-deserved recognition for our local blues maestro- currently in residence, every friday at the Moorings.

    Lionel Messi

Pele was a teenage sensation in an era when ballplayers were routinely kicked off the field and he was clogged mercilessly throughout his career. He never played club football in Europe but would have been as successful as Cruyff, Best and Maradona were. Messi is at an early phase of his career and already starring in an outstanding team. He has great talent and application - but I'll wait to see what he does in South Africa, before speaking about him in the same breath as the all time greats. (Btw....... the Dutch national teams of the 70s were excellent and the clubs were dominant as well. Not only was Cruyff's 74 squad full of talent, the 78 team made the WC final without him)
  10. Please post a guide price for the junior.
  11. I think the ticket prices might have put a few folk off but Jeez............ you wouldn't want to follow Son Henry on that form, would you? Killer!
  12. More than 13 hours of music, smoothly organised by the members and friends of Papa Mojo, supported by artists traveling from all over the country. Over twelve hundred quid raised for an extreme cause:-) Thanks to all responsible- a fantastic effort and a credit to the Scottish blues community.
  13. A National would be nice. A brass bodied Tricone, with a cutaway, would be nicer:-)
  14. Some top talent on display here- especially for lovers of heavy strings, open tunings and the glass finger...... Props to the Mojos, Dick and Son, for persevering with this venture. We need a regular venue and somewhere for younger players to be seen and heard.
  15. As Huw remarked, Bassman heads are a finite commodity. They're also pre-PCB and should be rebuildable as long as valve amps are made. Jumping the channels together gives a third option of gorgeous tones. If I was selling my '72- or buying another (Blackface, please!)- I'd think 400 was a reasonable point to argue around.
  16. Most blues bands are so formulaic. Son's band always gives you something extra and unexpected. Usually a bit rockier at the Moorings, a bit more experimental at Drummonds. He has an occasional horn section too, I understand....... and the tones he gets from all that vintage gear..8-)

Still looking for a Tele..... or just cash?
  18. Which speakers does your Carvin have?
  19. If you haven't already done so, can I recommend you check out the Revolutionaires, next time they are playing locally? Education, inspiration and entertainment, all at once:-)

    Dreadnaught

Thanks for all the practical replies......... I can sense a long afternoon in R 'n' B/Millers in my near future- but I really didn't want a new instrument. A castoff Epi Dove, Seagull, Takamine or such would do the trick. Apart from the sonic maturity of an older guitar, I'd rather not have to worry about the inevitable pub dings and scrapes.
  21. I was at school with 3 founder members of the Specials- in the 'Ghost Town'.... We were the first generation of British kids brought up in a multi-cultural environment, I guess, so it was quite normal to hear non-chart reggae, as you walked down the street. ( Depends what part of town you lived in, of course........) Love reggae.....the older the better! My first teenage summer, in 1970...........8-)
