  1. Oh, such a miscellaneous week: A low profile PCI graphics card for a fiver to make a small PC I acquired work (broken on-board graphics) A guitar/bass nut string spacing template A plank of maple (bass neck blank - which is a little too twisted for my liking so will probably have to go back, grr) An M-Audio Audiophile 24/96 sound/MIDI card Pre ordered Tiger Woods 09 on Wii
  2. Queen, "Bohemian Rhapsody" - that'll do nicely.
  3. What kind of laptop is it? Replacing the hard drive should be a relatively simple operation, they're usually user accessible without too much trouble. Just need to make sure you get the right kind.
  4. +1 for hassling agencies. Make them work for you, because by default they only work for their customers (the companies) and you are merely a commodity being traded.
  5. I find that rather interesting. I'd walk into a room like that and want to know more about what's going on.
  6. eBay user plankspanker101. He has a default set of ones (including the infamous "Jizz Bass") but did this custom request for me for a little bit extra above his usual ones. Good quality printing and good quality decal, application was a doddle.
  7. Here's some of my collection of underused, dust collecting ornaments: My 2007 custom build Epiphone EB-3, with added Hipshot Supertone bridge and (not pictured) DiMarzio Model One pup OLP MM3, currently ill with pup wired direct to the jack after active circuit failed Fecker Imprecision Bass, a mish mash of Squier and Fender parts with a Badass II and SD QP pup. Body is currently blue, I feel like refinishing the silver body surf green for some obscure reason. Takamine acoustic bass No rig pics, I'm still building it. Got a Hartke 3500 head but no cabs yet. Several projects in the pipeline...
  8. Lots of horribly badly played basses: My own custom build Epiphone EB-3 Fecker Imprecision (yes, a Squier P with "amusing" headstock logo) OLP MM3 Squier Bronco Takamine acoustic bass Basses in the process of being built: Zebrano Wideboy 5 (6 string neck modified for 5 strings, zebrano body, EMG pups and EQ, Badass V) Upright "doodle bass" (sweetie tin body, plastic strings, piezo transducers) Amps Ibanez 4W "very late at night" practice amp Laney 30W practice amp Hartke 3500 (no cabs yet!) Effects Zoom 607 And a Tascam MP-BT1 trainer, which is an excellent piece of kit. I build more than I play, which is quite shameful really.
  9. I'd do it as long as you're doing it for the right reasons - to gain experience in wiring up guitars and replacing hardware, to make a good working instrument. Remember that you'll never get your money back on upgrades. Don't even think of doing it for profit. A Squier/Epiphone with fancy parts does not equal a Fender/Gibson, even if it might be sonically better, functionally better, better feeling or better playing. That's just the way things are - people are blind to everything but the name.
  10. That's because no-one in Aberdeen stops at traffic lights! OK, that's an exaggeration, but in all the time I've been in Aberdeen, I have noticed over the past few years an increase in the number of "amber gamblers" and more disturbingly a commensurate increase in the number of people who simply sail through red lights. You try waiting to turn right onto Westburn Road from Westburn Drive when it's busy and see what I mean. Since I started honking my horn at anyone who goes through a red light when I'm waiting to turn right, I've also noticed a sharp increase in the number of people giving me a rude gesture. I don't get it. You're wrong - take your chastisement like the grown-up you're supposed to be when behind the wheel of a car. I can see a day coming when I get my car rear ended as a result of stopping at a red light. Sure, I could moan all day about Aberdeen and its inhabitants, but to be honest I'm reasonably happy here, got a decent job, got somewhere to live, got places I can go, got things I can do. For everything else, there's Guinness.
  11. AVG Free - FAQ See last part: How to install AVG without LinkScanner
  12. Impedance? Covering? Handles? Weight?
  13. What type of cabinet is it?
  14. Do mean the knob has fallen off? The actual pot would surely go inside the control cavity rather than "fall off". AxesRUs are quite good for these little nicknacks, mainly because they don't charge for postage. Have a look here: Guitar spares UK Guitar knobs toggle switch tips strap locks fender gibson Just remember to buy the right kind for your pot shafts (split shaft or solid).
  15. Sorry, I've just agreed to sell it to someone pending payment etc. I'll keep you in mind if it falls through.
  16. Oh, I've had it for quite a few years now. Just checked the serial number and it places the manufacture of it in 1996. Owned it from new.
  17. I never play this anymore, and I've got my eye on some cabs so I'm offering it up for sale. This is your typical precision clone but with a difference - it's see-through As a result, it sustains for longer than most normal basses I've heard, but it's heavy. Hardware is decent, tuners stable and EMG had a hand in the design or making of the pickup. It'll come with a gigbag. Looking for 100. PM me for more pics/details.
  18. I'm selling my old Epiphone Special, it's been gathering dust for years since I decided to switch to bass. It's in good working order (I tuned it up and it plays fine), and in reasonable cosmetic order - a ding on the headstock near the D tuner, a slight ding on the edge of the neck near the third fret and a scuff in the back. The pickup rings and tops were painted white when I thought I was being really clever (young and foolish then). There is an Epiphone "E" I painted on the truss rod cover, but it can be flipped round to show the original GIBSON lettering if preferred. It's a bolt on neck and is not that fancy, but it would do a beginner or someone who fancies tinkering with it. It will come with a gigbag and a strap (of sorts). Looking for 60. PM me for more details.
  19. Try putting the following into google: epiphone serial numbers The top link is to The Guitar Dater Project I fired in your serial number and got an answer. "all the sites I've googled" - what the hell were you googling for?
  20. Oh joy, i'd never seen the man responsible for the 13 string bass. Fair play to him, but I can't see how that bass would A) be tuned and B) playable with a neck that thick. I like a chunky neck but that's a bit too far for me.
  21. Hi there I was wondering if anyone could help me out: I'm looking for an (empty!) disgustingly large sweetie/cookie/biscuit tin. Preferrably round, at least 10" in diameter and 6" in depth. Something like a 2kg ish Roses tin? Must be undamaged, no dents, no rust. Anyone got one of these lying around that they'd be willing to let me have? I can come to you to collect anywhere in Aberdeen, or a reasonable distance out (like Inverurie or Stonehaven). Anywhere near the Fyvie area would give me an excuse to visit my folks, so that could be a goer also. Hope someone can help!
