  1. I'm in dire need of discovering something new and ace. Any leads? I gave Honeyblood's album that just came out a listen and it sounds great, that's my one top tip. I'm subjected to BBC Radio 2 at work every day. Their album of the week was Morrissey's new one. Every single song they played from it sounded atrocious, can't wait to listen to the full thing on Spotify with a big glass of alcohol. Oh, how I'll laugh.
  2. HMV will probably have a fair Smiths selection, the one in Edinburgh and the Fopp here always seems to have a few and quite a bit of Morrissey solo stuff. Mr Van Jerk, it's the bit that used to be the games section of Virgin/Zavvi. Last time I went in it was a bargain book shop though so have no idea what it's like. The important question is: will it sell me Superchunk?
  3. I read this last night, which is from a while ago but is quite interesting regarding how he's perceived in Uruguay: http://espn.go.com/espn/feature/story/_/id/10984370/portrait-serial-winner-luis-suarez-soccer-most-beautiful-player -edit- that sentence reads like a robot wrote it.
  4. Some of the eyewitness reports from the incident are disturbing... http://youtu.be/7XNlgwUNKjs?t=11s
  5. It's okay, his skills were utilised until they were no longer required and then he was stretchered off at the end. The perfect outcome.
  6. I hate Suarez even more than I hate Kyle Beckerman.
  7. I remember hearing about it when the news first came out that the station was being set up and it sounded great. I think the people behind it are supposed to be really highly regarded comedy promoters or something, but then they announced that Justin Lee Collins was getting his own show and it seems to have gone wrong since. Is Herring's show good? I must say I've really gone off him over the past few years. Spreads himself too thin.
  8. Jon Gaunt, Justin Lee Collins and Mark Dolan should not be allowed.
  9. I totally love comedy, but am always ashamed how little I listen to it on the radio. I always tell myself to make the effort and investigate what's on, but never follow through with it. Can someone come and live with me and remind me every time I complain of being bored? The last radio comedy I really really enjoyed was Warhorses of Letters. The description from the BBC is "Napoleon and Wellington's horses exchange love letters against the backdrop of the Napoleonic wars." Stephen Fry is the voice of Napoleon's horse, Marengo, who is old and self-conscious of his size which means he is technically a pony. The other horse, Copenhagen (Daniel Rigby) starts off as a racehorse who isn't very fast, then as the series goes on, also becomes a warhorse. He sees a painting of Marengo and immediately falls in love so writes to him to declare his feelings and continues from there. It's just stupid and great. I enjoy the letter format anyway because the writers can do so much with it, but also because it allows for lines such as "I hope that I will break into longer races this year when I am officially 3, even though I am a young 3, because you have to remember that all horses get arbitrarily given the same birthday, which is January the 1st. Oh wait, you don't have to remember, because you are also a horse."
  10. Great film. Soundtrack is surprisingly good too, despite its Mumfordness.
  11. CJ from Eggheads just scored for the USA in 30 seconds.
  12. Word! I started supporting Portugal in Euro 2000 because of Figo (that goal from miles away against England - holy fuck!) and seem to have stuck with them since but the last few years have been such a let down. Bring the auld lads out of retirement for sure. Deco, Gomes and Abel bloody Xavier. I did enjoy this from someone on Twitter, though. And Figo's been posting some fine photos too... What a totally naturally black-haired power-house.
  13. Are you giving next year a miss? But I've still yet to claim an international stalk despite not having a clue what you look like!
  14. I was genuinely hoping he'd weigh in at some point.
  15. Come on now, it kept Moon Moon out for a few days.
  16. Jesus, I was going to stop posting about all this, but fuck that. How was I dismissive of it? I posted about something I witnessed that angered me, in a thread designed for people to share things that make them angry. Someone else asked me a about similarities with something that happened to them and I acknowledged it but obviously didn't pass comment on it because I WASN'T THERE. Was that being a sensitive fucking emotional woman? Was that being "OTT"? Phil, you are so infuriating, I can never actually tell what your argument is, you change it that often. First you turned a POST ABOUT A PET HATE IN THE PET HATES THREAD into a question of "why does it matter that it happened to a woman?" Maybe this was, at first, you intending to play devil's advocate a little, but then you actually appear to be shocked when later I said I feel like I'm having to justify that sexism exists. You are the dismissive one. You looked at my first post and thought "Hey, rather than accept that this was an upsetting thing for someone to witness (let alone for the woman who actually had to endure being touched), I'm going to lead this in a direction where I can make a glib point about men's rights and try and make someone else feel like an asshole because the world doesn't actually just accept people as people" Then when someone new to the discussion challenges you as well, you change the argument again: "I was just pointing out that Kirsten was being dismissive." If that's the case, why didn't you, after my response to Skacel say "Oh, I feel you've been a bit dismissive there." Actually, why didn't you say that in any of your posts over the last couple of days? Fortunately before now I don't think I've been involved in having anything that could even loosely be described as a debate with you on here, but I've seen enough of what you've written when arguing with others to come to know that there's really no point. In fact, I'm pissed off at myself that I've ended up replying again when I was just going to leave it where it was.
  17. Same, there are a few exceptions but if a film is too long, I do find myself getting a bit impatient. I'd be such a shit film critic. My friend used to be the opposite and his rule was "Unless it's 'Cool Runnings', there is no good film under 90 minutes long."
