  1. Goodwillie is a fucking shambles.
  2. New Courtney Barnett in March http://pitchfork.com/news/57868-courtney-barnett-announces-new-album-sometimes-i-sit-and-think-and-sometimes-i-just-sit-shares-pedestrian-at-best-video/
  3. Yaaas! Already ten ahead of where I finished last year!
  4. Soundtracks would be cool but it probably doesn't really fit in with discovering new bands.
  5. Water Torture - Pillbox As with a few others on here, this is probably something I previously would have shied away from, but I have found myself more appreciative of this sort of stuff in the last few years. I think about five years ago, I probably would have dismissed it as "just noise", but having seen considerably more bands like this live, I find I enjoy it in that capacity. I think it was Teabags who said that he didn't like the interludes, but I appreciated those. Maybe that's because I'm a PV rookie and found it broke up the blast beats and provided a bit of breathing space for me to process the whole thing in my tiny brain. Would listen again, but probably not at home. Outside. At night. On headphones. Fleeing from a crime scene. This Will Destroy You - Another Language I just couldn't get into this. I sometimes need to be in the right mood for post-rock so I gave it a couple of listens at different times over the week but it wasn't working for me. I figured it would make decent background music as I read, and it does, but it is pretty forgettable on the whole. I kept waiting for it to go somewhere and it didn't, which is a shame as I think it had potential to build to something interesting. Also their name needs to be more accurate. I was promised destruction, goddammit. Shabaaz Palaces - Lese Majesty This was nice. I've enjoyed their previous work, so maybe went into it already feeling positive on the back of that. I didn't think it was too long, but just right in terms of them being able to experiment with a number of different sounds within one record. The thing I like about these guys is that they don't take themselves too seriously, as is evident in #CAKE, I guess. I'm not very good at being analytical about the hippity-hop, but I liked this. On first listen, I was surprised to find that I was enjoying Water Torture most, but as the week went on, Shabaaz Palaces clinched it. Well played, lads. ATB.
  6. Especially when there's that wee shop just down from the tram shop undercutting them! I like how as the evening goes on, they offer more heavy stuff. I was walking to the tram stop and about six of them offered me "Beer, beer, cerveza, weed, crystal, coke?" Those guys provided me with the second best thing that I saw at Primavera last year (if any of them were in Superchunk and just moonlighting as beer salesmen, they'd have made it to the top spot). We bought some beers from the little shoppy and watched the dudes at work whilst sitting and drinking under that Auditori Forum building. A giant bag of weed dropped out of the back pocket of a girl who had been sitting with a big group near us and we wondered if she noticed. Neither her nor her friends did for five minutes and we laughed at the idea of grabbing it and going up to one of the beer-guys and just saying "Weed? Weed?" One of the cerveza guys was doing his rounds and wandered in our direction to offer us something. His carrier bag was leaking. He clocked the bag of weed and the people who it obviously belonged to and did an amazing cartoon double-take. One of his pals yelled at him that his bag was leaking, which distracted him for a minute. Then he sat down next to me, in a hilarious attempt to be casual, as if this was the plan all along, and glanced at the people it obviously belonged to before surreptitiously grabbing it and pocketing it right in front of them. We laughed and he turned to us, I joked, "It's yours now!" and he said, "Cerveza?"
  7. I don't really have much to contribute to this thread but I saw this and needed to put it somewhere. NO GIFS IN SPOILER TAGS!!! REVOLT!!!
  8. I always make Spotify playlists when line-ups are announced to familiarise myself with the bands I don't know. I tend to just take the top five tracks from the 'popular' section of the artist pages, but it looks like now the popular tracks are sorted by which have the most plays recently rather than all-time most popular, so some of it may be pish. Anyhoo, if anybody else is interested, here they are. Thursday Friday Saturday This was especially nice to do because it was the first time I got to properly look at the line-up and I spotted Fumaca Preta are playing (Friday). They're my top tip, such a fun live band. *Edit* This is about Primavera. I forget this is a general festivals thread and not just the Primavera thread. AB-MUS ON TOUR!
  9. I can't wait to be reunited with the sketchy guys outside the venue trying to sell sewer-cooled cervezas for a euro.
  10. I take back my dismissal of it being announced via an app. That game is ace. I wasn't even taking notice of the bands, just shooting bad guys, fish and birds!
  11. John Darnielle's announced a new Mountain Goats album! Out in April. Now I'm excited. http://pitchfork.com/news/58158-mountain-goats-announce-pro-wrestling-themed-lp-beat-the-champ-share-the-legend-of-chavo-guerrero/
  12. I got a ticket for Christmas. AB-MUS NIGHT OUT!
  13. I guess it gives you more time to change your mind on an album. I think I've picked a favourite of the three but need a few more listens.
  14. What did you think? Mad Men took a while for me to get excited about too. I enjoyed it from the start, but but never got to the stage where I felt I desperately needed to see the next episode until maybe the third series or so. The fourth and fifth were incredible, though. Persevere. The characters are slightly less horrible as it goes on, but they become easier to like despite their massive flaws.
  15. Davidm wants in too but he's forgotten his password so says he'll make a new account for the occasion.
  16. I watched the first two episodes and they were alright! I guess it's hard to be hilarious when you've to give a back story to what the hell has been going on the last few years. The Werner Herzog cameo was wonderful. Hope they did manage to get Bill Murray as the mayor at some point. -edit- Dammit, new page. This is about Parks and Rec.
  17. The Primavera line-up is being announced via an app (must...not...roll...eyes...) next Wednesday. More info here: http://primaverasound.es/noticiaSingle?id=1337〈=en I downloaded it and all you can do at the moment is type in some sort of password. Heads up, it isn't 'Superchunk'
  18. I like this idea. Like a book group but not for nerds.
  19. The final series of Parks and Rec starts in the States tonight
  20. I always try and pick a "aw no, not that guy!" from sitcoms, but I didn't go with him this year. That might be the one for 2015!
  21. Full length trailer for Better Call Saul: You might need Hola or another unblocker to see because AMC's youtube is being a jerk.
  22. Series three of House of Cards is on Netflix on the 27th February. Yaaas! Had forgotten about it.
