  1. I think you will pick up a lot fast either way, but probably more efficiently if you teach yourself some basics with a "German for beginners" type book/website - how the basic grammar works, and some common verbs etc. (When I went to the Czech Rep without knowing any Czech, I picked up a lot of useful stuff, but a lot more after I had properly 'learnt' some from a book.) Also I would recommend listening to bands who sing in German to get used to hearing it and to learn some stuff, but that's only because I love a couple of German bands and learnt all the German I know from them _ Depends if you are looking to ultimately learn the language or just pick up a bit casually and get by, though, because if it's the latter, just go ahead and learn it as it comes
  2. All of them, but if I had to pick one, I'd say Deliverance, for Master's Apprentices.
  3. Bodast

    Your current read?

How is it? I have never read any of his stuff but I have heard that one in particular would be a useful one to read because it was influential (and a good book anyway). Right now I am trying to read "You'll Never Walk Alone: Ein Fussballmusikroman" by Florian Weber.
  4. YES. In fact, that's why I dug them out again, I had to do a talk today for my French class and I did it on Kobaian. Though it wasn't really appropriate to what we're studying, it was fun to exclaim, "then, as the music reached its summit, Vander would emerge from behind the drums and start shrieking, screaming and yowling like a magician or a necromancer!" Hey, did you ever go to that Planet Gong gig in the Netherlands? I seem to remember you talking about it, ages ago..?
  5. After forgetting Magma for many moons, I just remembered them, and they are much better than I remembered! Anyone likes them? Stupid hippies? Musical pioneers?

    lolcats bible

That's awesome. Lolcats are one of the greatest delights on the internet, and therefore, anywhere.
  7. 100,000,000 Bon Jovi fans can't be wrong, surely =/
  8. Correct. I uh... went to make compensation as regards my life-tab/karma by applying today to volunteer at the hospital though. :O It may seem stupid but one of my stronger beliefs is to maintain peace within the self by giving back what you take. In the mean time, thanks for your splendid array of stories! I found another good one in my archives: "And I have been further told by a lady whom I highly honour and esteem, that near Bordeaux and about Castres where she lives, a country woman, a widow of chaste repute, perceiving in herself the first symptoms of breeding, innocently told her neighbours that if she had a husband she should think herself with child; but the causes of suspicion every day more and more increasing, and at last growing up to a manifest proof, the poor woman was reduced to the necessity of causing it to be proclaimed in her parish church, that whoever had done that deed and would frankly confess it, she did not only promise to forgive, but moreover to marry him, if he liked the motion; whereupon a young fellow that served her in the quality of a labourer, encouraged by this proclamation, declared that he had one holiday found her, having taken too much of the bottle, so fast asleep by the chimney and in so indecent a posture, that he could conveniently do his business without waking her; and they yet live together man and wife."
  9. My deepest and most sincere apologies. I should have phrased my first post more carefully to read something like: despite not have a very funny time myself, I would like to hear about yours.
  10. Hey guys, I just got home from a night in hospital from somehow overdrinking.. they asked me how old I was and I said I was 14, and then they asked when my birthday was and I said, "At the right time... it's at the right time." I spent the rest of my night talking about Juve to the Italian nurse and learning German declensions off my friend who stayed with me. In short, I feel like a fucking idiot as this is what's meant to happen when you're 15 and then you learn your lesson and it never happens again (messed that one up, huh), but I also realise that this phenomenon can lead to funny scenarios. Tell me about yours!

  13. I like these idiotic things.. How am I feeling today? The Move - Brontosaurus (Ancient; enormous) Will I get far in life? Caravan - In the Land of Grey and Pink (Pick our fill of punkweed, and smoke it til we bleed... ie. No) How do my friends see me? King Crimson - Epitaph including March for No Reason and Tomorrow and Tomorrow (Errr... dead, pretentious, Mellotron-soaked) What's my best friend's theme song? 14. I have one friend who insists that it's okay for me to talk to her all the way home when I'm on the megabus, or indulge in conversation when I have to go buy something in a shop, or to continue our chat about boiz (definitely offensive to old people) when I get to an area with people around, and simply can't understand why I refuse. It's just bad manners! I've developed a terrible (-y useful) habit of leaving my phone on silent all day, from the moment it wakes me up til the time I go to bed. That's not very useful for when people really need to talk to me, but I do check for texts every hour or two and it pisses me off being contactable every minute of the day. Nice one on the Books and Beans scenario, by the way. Did she clear off or just give you a dirty look?
  15. Almost all the most attractive parts are in the top half, so bottom half crab for sure. It might be cute.
  16. That's what I thought... The Bonzos are awesome but it's not like they invented satire/parody (though they are hilarious ).
  17. We should play that, really! Even if you don't win, you'll end up with some new, noteworthy item.
  18. You're rubiss Stuart. I bought a bag of rabbit droppings because it's good for your hair. Well I would have but someone beat my offer.
  19. Yep.. last time I can remember it happening was trying to download something from HMV's site, last year. It's barely an issue at all.
  20. The only thing I dislike is when you have to use IE to access certain pages. My favourite thing about Firefox is the quick searches (tbh maybe you can do that on IE now, but I've never noticed it before) - it makes searching SO much quicker (though I waste the saved time by thinking up more sites to put quicksearches on).
  21. Well, they eat animal ones don't they. I almost ate bull testicles in Latvia but I didn't have the... courage.
  22. Oh cool.. I'll maybe see you guys in Oxford. Either way enjoy yourselves and good luck etc.
  23. Slap some sense into Corey - The Slap Corey game - www.slapcorey.com
  24. I'm not insured on any car, but on Project Gotham Racing my favourite tracks to drive to include I-E-A-I-A-I-O, Systen of a Down Ten in 2010, Bad Religion Sunshinin', the Vines Trilogy, ELP
