your right, i'm looking into isolating transformers in the signal chain now, like the pedal in the post above!

There was a guy out in the Premny area of Aberdeenshire who used to do this I believe. I'm sure he used to be advertised in the phone book and local ads papers. I'll have a look in the Insch and District Parrish newsletter for you if youve not got a copy to hand yourself.

Just to add another option, a friend has a Peavy valve king combo (think its a 50watt job) and had similar needs as yourself. Its a good amp, if a little loud for the bedroom but it sounds really nice for the blues stuff but can crank out a good bit of thrash as well. Plus I think it was reasonable priced, which was nice!

Does anyone use a signal splitter in their guitar set up to run two amps?? I've been experimenting using my boss tu-2 to split the guitar signal, running one feed direct to an amp while the other runs through effects and then to a second amp. there is maybe a bit of a ground loop which is making a bit of hum but other than that its worked pretty well. Even just setting up different tones on the amps sounds pretty cool. anyone tried this or found a better way of doing it? I'm sure a ground lift on one of the amps would clear the hum but i'll live with it for now!

Just had a bit of a tidy of my guitar stuff, for some reason (that i cant even explain to myself) i have kept EVERY packet of strings that i have ever used thus far! o_O i've literally hundreds of those little paper pockets that slinkies came in and heaps of D'addario sleeves...... i've also kept every un-broken string i removed from a guitar to freshen up the strings, that was just incase i snapped a new string and urgently needed a replacement..... but i also found 7 un-open packets of brand new strings and 5 partly used packets!! so any other musicians got a perticarly bad OCD habbit...... p.s. do the D'addario points work in the UK? i've probably enough points to purchase a >50% share of the d'addario company!! some string sleeves yesterday:

last time i was there they had stopped doing components/parts and were just doing computers. that was a few years ago now come to think of it...

Hi all, I'm looking to get hold of some white piping/welting for a Marshall cab Im repairing. does anyone know of anywhere I can get it in Aberdeen and/or the uk? i not found any on the interweb in the uk.... i'm not bothered if its not original Marshall spec stuff, just something white to finish the cab off, its already got non-original grill cloth. It was leopard print applied with roofing nails and a hessian sack as grill cloth prior to my repairs..... cheers!

cheers for the pointers, that curcuit doesnt work as it is, on full "blend" it just drops the output of everything and you can only just here the effects. the whole board consists of: guitar > tuner > distortion > volume pedal > noise gate > bypass switch ( wah > delay > flange) > oot to amp

I've built a simple by-pass switch for an FX loop on my pedal board and am trying to create a "blending" curcuit to mix the input signal with the effects return to control the level of effects. so far all attempts have failed, although i did manage to make lots of noise! any electronics geeks able to help out a fellow pedal nerd?? this is the curcuit i have come up with......

i've had this discussion with heaps of folk and like abdy else has said it boils down to how much effort your going to put in to it. if you really want to "make it" as a musician then it really has to be your life, if it meant you had to relocate then you'd have already left by now!! if i wanted to make money at it i'd be down in that london trying out for every guitarist/kazooist position going but music is just one of my many distractions, id be bored if that was all i did!! .......and if it was my main source of income it'd be temporarily fucked as i'm down to only two fretting fingers after a run in with an angle grinder........

guitar geekery is great!!! though i was once able to tell you the types of capacitors i used in tone controls but now i can't remember any of it!!! i use rotosound strings on my bass, the heavyest gauge i could get, and keep them untill they are festering with dead skin so that the higher trebly sounds are muted! guitar was always D'addarios 10 gauge's for standard tuning and a seven string set for tunning down to A or Ab sillyness. i always changed them regularly but just haven't go the time nowadays!! tokia sg was great for down tuning as it has a neck like a telegraph pole!!

try a bellcat delay, i got a new one off ebay for 43 including postage. its very well made, and works well. its the only delay pedal i've got so i dont know how it compairs to other models though......

I'd be going round all the companies in the industrial estates dishing out the CV, even if it ment walking round, least then it looks like you've made a bit of effort rather than just going to an agency. From my experience i'd say your best bet would be to get in with a larger company as they seam to be more interested in the degree than experience (i've worked with graduates that didnt know what to do with a spanner!! o_O ).

^ heh! nice, i find black pots have a superior tone to them chromed ones, plus it doesnt looks so bad when you burn the beans to the bottom! as for gear porn here's me bass rig and amp collection: nowt fancy but it does the job!!

I thought the same until I drove a toyota hulix surf with auto box, found it really easy to get used to and great for driving in towns and for towing. I still like manuals just as much as i did, especially my four gear lever'd, 20 speed landrover! if you've never driven an automatic give it a go, mines 12 years old and has all sorts of gadgetery for controlling the gears so the new ones should be pretty good. as for hybrids I've got a few none environmentally friendly ones (18mpg diesel anyone) but i'm still looking out for info on a Gas Turbine engined car i saw years ago at a motor show, dont know how economic it would be but turbine's can run on anything flammable! Same as russian long stroke, low compression engines that the russian army used in thier trucks, they are carburator engines but can be run on 50% petrol/50% vaigly flammable waste fuel. I've only seen >7litre versions of these tho so not much use for pottering about town......

s'not funny, same thing happen to me, cost me about two hunner notes for a new machine....thar's somethin about staircases and washin machines that they dont mix..... o_O

any guitar discusion that starts heading into the "guitar tone" territory is never going to end with everyone agreeing!! i mean some people swear that "good" tone is more to do with the hardness of your finger tips than the instrument! ?( i find with the amount of fuzz-wah-delay-backwards flange and more distortion i use i havent been able to pick up the subtle differences in unblocked and blocked trems......

never thought of that, havent noticed any dramatic effects on the tone since removing the springs and fixing it but then it is a squire strat so cant expect much!!
