  1. it isn't like that... if you are talking of Indies having "morals", then why would they sell to the major in the first place ?! And, if you lot live in such a naieve world that a record company is effectively a "talent charity", paying for any old shite to be released, to keep the 3 people that love the crap a band releases happy then someone needs to start living in the real world. Sure, its fucking crap when your favourite band get dropped for a label, but, its "partly their fault" for : 1, siging with the devilspawn / shit record co in the first place 2, blowing all the record co's money on lavish recordings, videos, crack, hoes etc ! (an "advance" in most bands eyes is : "free money"...not in the long run it ain't mate... I think too many bands go in to a deal not actaully knowing the ins and outs, and frankly not caring, I'd imagine my scrutiny levels would lower if I was woowed by a mojor...but, I'd soon come to my senses...sign to "dogfart" records, and release 3 7" that no one would ever hear, but I'd only be out of pocket by 500 quid...ho ho. anyway, rant "sort of over"... basically : its a greedy world we live in, face the reality. write a pop song or 7, make shit loads of money THEN make the music you really want to , as the record company bends over backwards to release your naval gasing pish (see RadioHead (not that they are pish....)) peep
  2. "that blows at least the new album will be free." yeah, they make no money, can't afford to do another LP, and they break up...call yourselves fans ?... nice.
  3. and the pan sonic box set is oot...oooh...I'll have to get this one like...and then install a 1K rig in my house, just to relive the experience! pan sonic - kesto (234.48.4) 'kesto (234.48.4)' is a brand new quartet of compact discs from pan sonic available only as one complete set. the recordings were based mika's favourite painter francis bacon and his use of the triptych. the recordings represent a substantial new depth and vitality in the quality of their sound palette that brings a newfound life force and delicate violence into their music - released 17/5/2004 Price: 25.99 Format: cd
  4. nabbed this from Rough Trade : modey lemon - thunder and lightning finally a uk release for the brutally brilliant second album from pittsburgh's mighty modey lemon duo. guitar, lead drums and moog spew out raw punk influenced garage with a level of energy most bands can only dream of. think a mix of the mc5, suicide and the cramps. this is one lethal brew that seriously rocks - released 17/5/2004 Price: 11.99 Format: cd
  5. mirror in the bathroom is a blinder too, but, Like you said, Ghost Town probably wins. One in ten by UB40 is fucking ace too..shame the rest of their history is pish! (and , its not really ska, its Reggae!). lip up fattie by bad manners is one of the classics, as too is baggy trousers by madness...

  7. I can't remember if I posted this a while back ! anyway, trey and friends have got a new Secret Chiefs 3 LP coming out soon (18th May) ----------- I can't wait to hear this...I tried pre ordering it, but theey don't take Amex..bah ! Secret Chiefs 3 - Book of Horizons - CD The long-awaited new SC3 album, Book of Horizons. This is a preorder for a mid-May release; domestic orders should receive it on or around May 18, 2004. Less a band and more a huge ensemble comprised of several temporary bands... The brainchild of obsessive composer/producer Trey Spruance (Mr. Bungle), Book of Horizons boasts years of work, orchestral-scale compositions, huge laborious production, with intricate counterpoint as well as beautiful, simple monophonic texturings, tons and tons of instruments from all over the world, and the corresponding musicians who go with them. These include Eyvind Kang, (composer, viola/violinist, plays w/everyone from Sun City Girls and Dr. N. Rajam), Danny Heifetz (Dieselhed, Mr. Bungle), Shazad Ismaily (Nels Cline, Barbez, Brian Eno, Air, Elysian Fields), William Winant (literally everyone, Xenakis, Sonic Youth, Yo Yo Ma), Phil Franklin (Barbara Manning, Sunburned Hand of the Man), John Merriman (Cephalic Carnage), Ches Smith (Theory of Ruin, Good For Cows), Unhuman, Ursula Knudesen and her magic bowed saw, the talented lads from Estradasphere, and a lot LOT more.

  14. they are on the b side of the fucking ace value for money MTS 7" I bought on the fudge night gig for only 2 quid ! (4 tracks for 2 quid ?....too cheap in my book!). cracking stuff.
  15. that's not true, If I remember correctly, you can get a wider range of frequencies on vynil. anyway, vynil does sound better than a CD anyday, far warmer and lively...don't tell me you can't hear the difference ! peep

    Pink Grease

I thought they were entertaining too, but staying power ? (hmm...the joke wore a bit thin by about half way through the set for me !). I think the image got in the way of the music (on stage), I should check out the CD and listen, without watching. peep
  20. oh, alex, with comments like that, you're (ho ho) foot should be full of holes. that's just not cricket, if you are going to "start a debate" (i.e. pick appart someones opinions) , and end it with a "what ever", if that's cool, and "young", then , I can't wait for you to grow up and have a better perspective of things (no disrespect). I thought pink Grease were great...but got bored of the same joke after about 4 songs. I didn't see the Mute nght as "over ambitious", I thought it worked very well, and was very happy at the turnout, for such a left field event (for aberdeen), I was pleasently supprised at the amount of "underground appreciators". I also liked the way you could actaully catch all the bands on the night, if you didn't mind snipping off a few minutes from each set. Long live the triptych, that's my opinion. A slice of "different music" for a change...an excellent 5 days for music in scotland.
  21. I wish I was standing next to you then! I did think it was a very subdued crown, on the whole , very quiet (but a good clap in between songs)...it's just my luck that mrs Yap and her pals wanted to talk about how "cute" the boys were, what they were wearing, what they were doing over the weekend etc... Dog's got a bone was perfect...
