you shouldn't just stick to WARP artists, there are millions of Glitch / IDM peeps that make good music. Funkstorung is a must (new LP out soon). Skam records has a decent "BOC" sounding back cat... Good to see that people talk about electronica on here, not just guitar based stuff...

Stuart, much like art critics who can't paint/draw/make art then... Its always easy to criticise, if you are in no position to receive it yourself...know what I mean ? ...one of my problems with the NME is the distinct lack of dynamics, music in blighty just now covers many genres and styles, seems that the NME only hire (or publish) the people who fit the managements "idea" of what is good music (this month!)...sure there are plenty of music zines to cover the "specialist" niches, but, to me (and I may be wrong) the NME is supposed to be the bastion of British (not pop) music...but they only seem to promote "flava of the months"...and that's not fair (but life isn't , yeah yeah)... anyway, you either love it or hate it, so who cares.

NIN in the barras, when downwrd spiral came out was amazing, 'reptile' was a particualr fave, because of the light show. soundgarden at the barras (when TAD supported), 1 or 2 weeks after poor kurt cobain toped himself..."just like suicide"..what a wierd experience that was, everyone swaying, knowing full well that Kurt was gone for good... Alice in chains in the barras, when the BBC recorded it...now that was ROCKTASTIC... Buck 65 in Tron, last Triptych...now he's an entertainer for sure !

Muz was blown away by the helmet drummer, using Ride Cymbals as splashes ! he he...now that's hitting... if anything, I'd have to say that people NEED TO SEE the young gods live, it is certainly an experience... I wonder how that new LP on ipecac is coming on...I hope it happens.... That korn gig was another fuck up of the bill.. helmet on BEFORE "shit Biskitz" (or whatever they were called)...a fucking insult to music no doubt. we have all forgotten the amazing Clutch at the lemon tree too ! (another fucked up billing order.... ".co.uk" on AFTER clutch...my balls shrank with embarrasment !

Christ, they started working again pretty quickly (well, on tool's time, 2 years is quick !) "Work is underway on Tool's next album, despite the fact that A Perfect Circle will be touring for the next little while. The writing process for this album will be similar to the process for "Lateralus": the band works on music, sends demos to Maynard, he works on vocals, and so on. The singer discusses this in the newest issue of Kerrang magazine, saying "we're working on a new Tool record now. I'm multi-tasking. I can't walk and chew gum but I can change hats." It was four and a half years between "nima" and "Lateralus", it has so far been (only) almost three since the spirally record was released. So really, they are almost ahead of schedule. I don't read it anymore, so I wouldn't have a clue !I also think most of the festivals have done the same thing in a way, there was a time when reading had heaps of unknown / underground bands you could go and discover, now all the small tents are crammed with only bands that the NME like or push. gone are the days of getting to see "cop shoot cop" or "hair and skin trading Co." or some other out of the blue band in a wee tent... know what I mean ?...

its a load of bollox, music written about by people who can't play! I think its funny when they suddenly turn on a band they have been trying to hype for the last 2 months... shallow shite.

I got ultravisitor last week... I am blown away by it, some tracks are just too highbrow, but there are plenty of moments of sublime genius... It's probably not the best squarepusher CD to get if you have not heard him before, its not he easiest of rides, for sure... IF you want your basic squarepusher drum n bass, go for "burning tree" or "feed me wierd things". I'd join Ben AWOL in fully reccomending the new squarepusher to anyone who wants to push the boundaries of their musical tastes. peep

mr bungle, londaon astoria (2001) fucking amazing to see bungle music, live...pattons voice, and all the other absolutly spell binding musicians.. also, fudge tunnel in the pellican...because I di my first forward summersault into the crowd when stage diving (after being kicked in the arse by alex newport he he)...great fun.

"ultravisitor" is comin out soon, sounds fucking amazing, its been likened to bitches brew you can hear all of it at : www.bleep.com as for similar artists... well, that's a tough one... micro programming wise : funkstorung chris clarke bass wise : primus ?! most 70's jazz funk drum n bass wise (and its a stirctly riddim wise...he he) any old school (95 drum n bass) randall & andy c uncle 22 sub nation etc... the only Squarepusher CD I couldn't cope with was "music is one rotted note"...I might have to go back and re-try that sometime soon.

I think he's great, and doing a great thing for jazz, he's definetly talented, but I don't think he's the new messiah of jazz, just a great portal into the often mis-represented world of jazz (pople think its all bears, berets and "squggly noise")..don't they ?... I think he deserves all the praise he gets.

I love : closing time (first LP, if I remember correctly), full of lovely slow husky, whistful songs. excellent for a slow summer night. and mule variations (ranges from ballads to crazy "HOG JAMS" (with primus)...another cracking LP. I still have to get his last two LP's Bone Machine is pretty crazy too...loud and rawkus. HTH peep
