  1. I really don't understand this point. How does someone think 'new music is shit'? By 'new music' do you mean music they haven't heard before? Then how did they come to like anything?
  2. If you don't already, you should try going along to the blues jam at the Malt Mill (Downstairs) - Think it's on every Wednesday. Good chance you'll find like-minded souls there
  3. I was there for that too, and I did enjoy it. But I felt that was a bit different, as they were on late, after everyone else was finished and it was more like a separate performance. Like a cinema showing a special screening of your favourite film or something. Maybe it's just the unoriginal stereotypical covers band I hate. Like the aforementioned Skyhooks opening their set with Wilson Pickett "Do you like good music" - just depressing. Good point - could be a Bella thing. Not having been to Reading, Leeds or that ilk - I take it this is not really something that happens elsewhere?
  4. Oh yeah, I definitely drone on about this too much - but I was more interested in the festival angle this time. Should a Saturday night prime slot in front of several thousand music fans be given to a band who've been playing 'Midnight Hour' every weekend for the last 20 years? I'm sure many on this forum can think of any number of upcoming exciting new bands who could use a chance like that?
  5. Valid form of musical and artistic expression? Or easy way to make lots of money out of people who don't really like music? I don't hide the fact that I really don't like cover bands, and don't really see the point. Don't really want to see them all shot, but they have been known to ruin a night out for me, as I'll usually leave any pub that has one on. I know there are a few cover bands represented on here - can anyone persuade me differently? And how about festivals? I was at Belladrum this year, fantastic festival, some amazing acts on all weekend, but four of the acts on the main stage on Saturday night were covers/tributes. There was a Johnny Cash tribute act, 'Rumours of Fleetwood Mac', 'legendary festival favourites' the Dangleberries, and worst of all were 'Scooty and the Skyhooks', a local soul covers band doing all the usual Redding/Pickett/Commitments type guff. Should this be allowed? In their defence, they each got a reasonable crowd, got people dancing, but I heard as many negative comments as positive. I can't help thinking that such a great opportunity should have gone to someone with real original talent who could have used the exposure to help kick off an actual career?
  6. Depends. Were you there on Moorings related business? It counts if you just happened to be passing without going in...yeah, no that doesn't count.
  7. Right here goes, I reckon 2.30am while well alight on Rioja is as good a time as any... I've just spent a good hour looking back over old posts, announcements, discussions between the staff, etc. with particular regard to how this site is run. And, to be honest, it has ever been thus. I read stuff from almost 10 years ago that could almost be a direct copy of this thread. Which doesn't mean it's not valid, because it is, but the fact is that we as mods are always, always going to piss people off. We can't get away from that - it's always going to be subjective. The fact you have posted something on this site by definition means you want it to be seen, and when someone else then decides that it isn't going to be, you're not going to like that. And I don't think we always get it right - it would be a miracle if we did. But I think we all agree that moderation is necessary. Otherwise we wouldn't get reports, complaints, or messages from users asking us to delete stuff, sometimes something they themselves have posted. And we wouldn't get threads like this one. From looking back over the last 10 years or more, one thing struck me - the staff have always been happy to explain themselves. We don't have a problem with that. Feel free to disagree, and ask us to justify our decisions. I think we should have to. In fact I like these threads where people complain about the staff. There's obviously quite a lot of discussion that goes on in PM's, unseen to anyone else, but I reckon every once in a while it's good to have a public airing of complaints like this. It gives everyone a slightly better idea of what we do and why. And also gives us as mods a slightly better idea of what users think of what we do and why. If I'm being honest, I don't think I would have closed the original 'OTT Moderation' thread. Yes, there was a lot of shite in it eg between E.C and Milner, but it could have been removed and the discussion brought back on track. But that's just me. Lucky works his own way, I work mine, and so do Chris, Dave and Neil. And that's a good thing. In fact it's necessary. The more varied decisions, styles and opinions the better. I know Dave, Lucky, Chris and Neil don't always agree with me, nor I them. That's why it works. The mods get moderated too. This has been a great site for far longer than most sites have even been sites. And it still is great. But it lives and dies by its users and what they post. The secret is not what comes out of this site, but what goes into it. We're all moderators.
  8. I'll answer this one before considering the other stuff... As I explained to you by private message, you had two threads going advertising the same gear for sale. That just gets confusing, and it was reported as such by other users. So I closed one of them down. As you then indicated you'd rather keep the other one open, I reopened the one you wanted and closed the other one instead. You then replied on your thread saying So I'm a bit confused as to why you're now unhappy about it? I don't think 'tidying the forum, messaging you, then adjusting it as you requested' counts as being a 'power happy' bully does it? Anyway. No biggie. Carry on...

  10. Aware of the tune, just wondered how a failure to believe led to his untimely death.Thought maybe I was missing something. I'd probably have said 'Don't stop bereaving'.
  11. God dammit. That's Belladrum weekend. God dammit. Anyone who can, but doesn't go to this is simply stupid. That's an official Frosty recommendation. Just go. Dammit.
  12. \m_m/ There is no tune which can't be improved with the addition of a surprise metal solo. Do you do requests?
  13. The gadget-type shop in the Bon Accord Centre has them, or try Ebay. Oh.
  14. Private housing estates? Where?
  15. Is that a Ford Ka? In which case it may not be your fault it's parked like that. The Ka probably defaults to that because it's assuming it's being driven by a hairdresser. The Galaxy needs reported though, if it's sitting on a public road with no tax or MOT. I presume the law is the same there as everywhere else. Is there not a Polish equivalent of the DVLA you can report it to?
  16. There's a few sites that archived a shit ton of geocities stuff, like Reocities, Oocities, and others. You can probably still have a rake around - http://archiveteam.org/index.php?title=GeoCities
  17. Presume that's the stands as well? Interested.
  18. Gibraltar are probably your best bet, they do tons of this kinda shit. Something like this maybe? - Have a rake around their site, you're bound to find something to suit. http://www.gibraltarhardware.com/index.cfm?fa=partsmain&sid=438&cid=109&curcat=2
  19. "Come in number 21, your time is up" "Erm, we only have 14 boats" "Number 12, are you OK?"
