  1. Cool. And thanks for the info on the video card. I reckon I'll get one. It's nice to be nice, aintit?
  2. easiest way is to reference this - i.e. in your tab the first note is on the D string, fourth fret up. Check the picture, and it's an F#. The second note is on the D string, 2nd fret up, so it's an E. It's a bit laborious, but I think that's what you'll need to do. Remember #sharp notes can also be bflats, depending on the key of the piece, so you can use this one - Obviously these are for guitar tabs, but ignore the top two (e and B) and they're the same of course. Hope this is of some help.
  3. Ooh, maybe they weren't nurses after all, Mr Ghost. Hahaha! Oh, hang on...
  4. OK, sorry if that seemed a bit harsh, but your attitude in some other threads doesn't give the impression of a lack of self-confidence at all. The impression I've got from your posts to date has been pretty mixed. On the one hand you've been asking for help, and then on the other you've been demanding to know what right someone has to hold an opinion and often been quite dismissive. You may find things go a lot better in general if you assume everyone deserves respect until they prove otherwise, not vice-versa.
  5. With all due respect, give it a rest, will you? I can't quite work out if you're totally lacking confidence in your own abilities, or if you're fishing for compliments. You keep asking for opinions and you keep saying it's a work in progress or whatever. You can't write music by concensus, isn't that veering towards writing what other people want? Wouldn't that be 'selling your soul'? Bite the bullet and just lay down what you want, what you think is right, then see what happens. It's your music, take the leap of faith.
  6. Ah, the VL-Tone Ticketprinter. Very handy.
  7. Hmmm. I don't think there's a fake pedal there. He has two hi-hats on the left side. As far as I can tell, from left to right it's - Left side Hi-hat 1 Hi-hat 2 Left side of left handed twin pedal Right side Right side of left handed twin pedal single kick pedal Hi-hat 3 I think you're right about different tuning, they could even be different sizes. He has the option of playing double kick on both, or just on the left one. Quite unusual as he's probably a right-handed player. I think all the hats are remote cable types, but maybe one of the left ones is a stand, can't really tell. It's a Tama Starclassic kit, so there's a good few thousands worth there. Can't say I'd like to play it meself though. That's his 'other kit' too, I'd hate to see his main one...
  8. your sig... Fairly pushing that 2-week gig block rule to the limit, arntcha?
  9. I thought they were talented, good songs. Didn't blow me away either, but it not that sort of music, is it. Nice. I liked Neil's drumming, not just playing a beat to impress like a lot of drummers do, but playing the song. I was however slightly put off by the fact that Chandler Bing and Rob Brydon were singing at me. (No offence, obv.)
  10. Aye, no problem. An amp or two for sure, and I'll check with my four stringed friend.
  11. Atonal music was invented by Arnold Schoenberg around the 1920s, and was continued by his two pupils Alban Berg and Anton Von Webern. These three are the ones you need. Not strictly atonal, bus also interesting for piano music is stuff by John Cage, his style - I think it's called aleatoric or something music - uses all kinds of weird effects like bits of metal, nuts and bolts etc on the piano strings. He 'wrote' a piece called "4mins 33 secs" in which the pianist comes on stage, lifts the piano lid, then sits in silence for exactly 4 mins 33 secs. The idea being that the music is created by all the other ambient sounds in the hall at that moment in time. Check them out.
  12. Suvara can help out with stuff if you need anything. Just shout. Btw, We'll never get away from that 'folk' tag, will we? Fuck knows what we are, but it's not folk... sheesh. Still, never mind. as long as you spelled the name right on the pos....oh.
  13. You have a guitar that dispenses little sweets??? How cool is that! Or am I getting confused again? *paradiddles*
  14. Rest easy kiddies. Embouchure is a French word. Obviously relating to the same Latin root (boca, I think), but the musical term came from our Gallic cousins - la bouche, the mouth. Good embouchure is good mouth positioning and technique.
  15. I think I had one of those, or it may have been its bigger cleverer brother. It looked exactly like that, but it was definitely polyphonic, and I don't think it had the calculator. Got me through O Grade music it did. Still got it somewhere... *plink*
  16. No. You're not. The only thing close to what I think you're on about would maybe be a 'lead-in'. Licks, riffs and chops are pretty much the same thing although you could say riffs are more chunky and chord based. If you want to hear a riff, listen to AC/DC... More importantly though, remember that Sonata Form is always Exposition, Development, Recapitulation.
  17. Jee.....zuz.... That is a fanfuckingtastic line up and no mistake. I will be in slack-jawed attendance this week. This masterclass should be mandatory. Is Stu Ritchie back in Aberdeen for good now?
  18. I was once in a band called Colin Cant and the Zimbabwe Five. For no reason other than it sounded funny at the time. Sadly we got boycotted because someone spread a rumour that we were from South Africa and supported apartheid. Didn't even know what it was then, but we still lost a few good gigs, so band names can make a difference. I was also once in 'Screamin for Pussy' who didn't do too well either... take care, kids...
  19. Pardon???8o Yay! We finally wore you down then... You're on. I'm just checking with the guitarist now to make absolutely sure.
  20. probably not even worth me *coughing*, is it? *sigh* * shuffles off, mumbling something about 'can't get arrested'*
