  1. Yeah I know, I just think that was his point in doing it, as a challenge. Maybe that's why he was distributing it for free on the net rather than trying to sell it. An interesting project. By the way, I heard somewhere they once tried the monkeys typewriters thing. The first pronouncable word they came up with was......Chumbawumba. True. That was a separate point about if/when a sample becomes the creation of the sampler. I was just trying to be funny, probably failing as per, but that just struck me as overly modest. You get plenty of respect from me for what you do. If I tried it, I would be up on several murder counts by now...
  2. But limiting the samples was the whole point of the album. It's a bit like doing a crossword and complaining that there are only three letters in 6 down when you'd like there to be seven. The challenge is in working with what you've got. He's not compromising, he's still creating but within his own remit. And I think that's still waaay more creative, interpretive and emotive than a computer could be. I think it also raises an interesting question. Is the music on the album still the creation of the beatles and jay-z, or has it transformed into a new music created by Dangermouse? Where's the line? Does that mean that 'Funky Cold Medina' is actually a Jimi Hendrix tune? And I'm keeping that for future use...
  3. But will Alex be able to stay out of jail for long enough to tour?
  4. *psssssttt*.... How about a cheeky wee download?..... http://www.illegal-art.org/audio/grey.html I'd get a move on if I was you though. You 'int seen me....roight?....
  5. Christ, that explains a lot. I played at that very gig in my own band, and got banned from all council venues after it. But we thought that was just for swearing a bit, and our singer flashed his bits a couple of times. We got some real shit after that from everyone saying we had played 'smoke on the water' when we hadn't, and we couldn't understand it at the time. So it's his fault then? I'd say that's worth a pint or two... The Venue was indeed great, I played there a few times, and saw some amazing bands, but it was mostly just a fantastic place for a night out. Like Jim says, it was a total mix of all kinds of Aberdeen's finest freaks, with no real trouble that I remember. Imagine Drakes but 200 times bigger. And there was a lot more to the 'scene' in the early nineties than Men Lie and Kill the Doc, good though they were. Basically I reckon the whole 'scene' thing was really kicked off by the 'Big Bang at Bonkers', which was a huge gig at what is now Liquid, and all organised by the bands themselves, coming together to help each other out for the first time. It's all in the book 'Fit like New York'.
  6. It also means you can remember it the next day, which is a bonus I find. btw I was keeping an eye on you, well done...
  7. I can't even remember the number of times I've stood on a hard shoulder swearing at a Transit. I think we did Aberdeen to London and back a dozen or so times and probably did without problems only 2 or 3 times. Several punctures, lots of overheating, dead electrics, and one huge and fatal hole blown in the engine block. Love that M6...
  8. I thought they were great for the 2 minutes when they went mental, but it look a lot of work getting there. I got the feeling I might have had a better time if I hadn't been completely straight/sober. Simple Kid was magic though, great songs and just a good entertainer. I really could have done without the dancing twat though, he kinda spoiled it really. Mr Milne was pure class as usual...
  9. After the hits dried up, he did a series of The Crystal Maze, then... oh, hang on...
  10. Not exactly speed, allegedly. Slightly more upmarket, if you catch me drift... *taps nose* *septum falls out*
  11. Cream. And Red Lorry Yellow Lorry for a double bubble... And Rainbow for a sevenser!
  12. Christ, I forgot about Ali. I'm sure he could actually fall unconscious and keep on playing. Great though. Trying to think of other drummers from that time, all I can come up with is the blonde guy, Phil? Used to play with Gerry Jablonski I think. Funnily enough I saw him about a month ago for the first time in years, still wearing the same tight black jeans and Pearl bomber jacket... Definitely remember hearing someone do 'Trees' though. "the trouble with the maple..." Cool. I now have Rush playing on my internal jukebox.
  13. I was witness to that more than once I believe. Quite amazing. Drift Inn? I almost miss that place sometimes. Stu Richie on drums wasn't it? I think I also remember him and others, possibly yourself, do a complete and practically perfect cover of 'Spirit of Radio' which was unbelievable. You'll understand if my memories of those days are a bit fuzzy. I still shudder when I see a Newkie Broon bottle...
  14. Cool, I'd never noticed that. That does indeed solve the problem then doesn't it? Does this mean my G-spot is safe?
  15. The Belmont Cafe (downstairs in the cinema) is good every Wednesday night. Speak to Kabuki The Wild Boar has been known to do acoustic gigs too. I think Tim Bench and Fiona Keenan put gigs on there a while back. What gigs have you done already?
  16. Oof, close call. You'd have been sent home, but you would be lucky to "Arrive Alive"... 2/10
  17. Fair enough, if you really want to read every last post of every minute of the day But 'trawl through 15Mforums' is a bit melodramatic. The only difference I can really see is in separating the music-orientated wheat from the who else likes potato waffles chaff. So thats two, then. Is that such a hassle? Surely there are some readers who are only interested in musical discussion, just as there are probably some who only like the irrelevant irreverent social interaction. Im sure most people are probably interested in reading both, but this way seems to me to offer the best choice of options, for the least effort. If you amalgamated all the separate forums, and had one all-encompassing uberforum, you would indeed see at a glance everything that was new since you became 10cc lighter, but youd have threads disappearing off the end quicker than those 10cc just did. Another thought though On the home page, there has always been a latest forum topics feature showing most recent threads. Would this help? Could this be expanded to show all new posts over a wider period of time? How long should this cover? Maybe you could provide Neil with an average time spent on these relief breaks. Best make it a daily figure to get a nice wide range of readings
  18. This change has really bothered you hasnt it? The way I see it, if there is a discussion going about a gig on the all music forum, then fine, let it run its course. And threads wander off-topic, always have, always will. They almost always either wander back on-course again, or fizzle out anyway. No problem. But if someone just wants to let a band know what they thought of its performance, give feedback in other words, then it makes sense to have an area dedicated to this. If Ive just played a gig along with Orwell for AUBL at Drakes and want to know what people thought of it, should I then go to the all music forum, or the AUBL forum, or the Orwell forum, or the Dr Drakes forum? It just makes it easier to find posts of a certain type, thats all. And the feedback forum is also intended for feedback on other things, such as band CDs, members home recordings etc. Seems to me everything is just a hell of a lot easier to find now. Dont see why thats such a problem.
  19. This was actually one of the ideas for the Feedback Forum Post your choons there, and see what people think. As Mr Kilmister once said, "run it up the flagpole, and see who salutes it"...
  20. Aye, right... Jessie. You're even scared to play live nowadays...
