  1. it would work if you did all the levels and panning and stuff on the mixer, then took two outputs to the recorder (for right and left) this would use up and extra track, but give you the option of stereo, and still leave you with quite a few other tracks for other instruments/vocals/whatever David
  2. which destroyer do you mean? there is a 'mini' destroyer that ibanez are currently making (or were a year or two ago anyway) and there is also the full sized one that isnt in production anymore (theres a full size one on bruce millers wall, above and to the left of the guitar desk, its not for sale though) David
  3. i know of a guy who got pissed off with running an incredible loud stage volume (100 watt marshall) so he set up his amp in a room somewhere backstage, cranked it completely and got it miced up, so all his amp sound was coming via the pa and monitors... cranked amp tone, but no volume the Zvex nano head (the 1/2 watt one posted above) isnt really that expensive, you would pay thousands for a nice valve amp, and more than the nano for most production heads, so 400 for that aint too bad at all, plus they sound absolutely beautiful. David
  4. which simpsons dvd is it? David
  5. the speakers used can make a vast difference in the sound of am amp. i noticed this when in captain toms, usually you get a laney head through a laney cab, which i am not too fond of (they get the job done though) one day i got to use the same laney head through a marshall cab, and there was a huge difference... turned a not so impressive amp into a decent sounding amp (though i still used a pedal for all my dirt) i have heard of more people using the THD than the marshall (going mainly on comments made on harmony central) so im guessing its probably the better (possibly cheaper?) David
  6. watts refers to the power the amp can output... so basically the wattage of the amp refers to the volume it can produce... a 100 watt amp will be louder than a 10 watt and for example 100 watts is rather excessive though, i use a 40 watt valve combo and it has more than enough volume for me, plus with valve amps, the louder you have them, the better they sound, so cranking a 100 watt amp will piss off any neighbours/housemates and leave you with less hearing than when you started.... for playing at home i only have my amp at about 2/3... the only real difference between a head/cab and a combo amp, is the fact that a head and cab are separate... a combo is exactly the same just with the speakers and amplifyer built into the same enclosure... kinda like if you glued together a head/cab. Rat Dist Pedal

how much you looking for for the rat? i know someone who may be interested also, which version is it? older vintage style (no led, big square box) newer vintage style (same as the older one, just new) rat 2 (newer style box, led) or anything ive missed (turbo, deucetone, anything else they used to make) oh, and it is indeed a fucking beast...bloody great pedal David
  8. delays are cool effects, so getting one of them would be cool the uner idea is also very good, and a bloody useful pedal to have about if you tried, you could probably get both of those for yor budget... David
  9. firstly, what pedals do you already have if any? and what other gear will you be using with it, and what music you intend playing through it... also, for 150 you could probably get more than one pretty decent pedal... for a start something like a wah could be cool, the cheapest dunlop crybaby is about 90... or some sort of dist/fuzz pedal, this would depend on what amp you have (more than one channel?) a ProCo ratII would be nice, its a niee fuzzy distortion type of pedal and sound great, or possibly an EH big muff for a fuzzier fuzz type of pedal or for a not quite as cool sounding, but very usefull pedal, possibly an eq, the dano mini (fish and chips?) eq is supposed to be very good and rather cheap, or MXR and boss make some that are also supposed to be very good basically there are hundreds of pedals you could go any buy... so it depends on what you are wanting in yor sound and what you are missing/could be usefull in your current setup David
  10. an eq cuts and boosts all the different frequencys of the sound, so you can increase bass frequencys, or cut mids, or whatever you like. the one in windows media player has a range on sliders, each one controls a small part of the signal, the bass ones are on the left, treble on the right. the best way to work out what they do is to play about with them, try sticking the 5 on the left to full, and play some music, you will hear lots of bass in the sound, not completely cut them, the sound will be very thin and there will be no bass at all, try it for different sliders and see what happens (note, some music will have more affect on different frequencys, depending on how much of those frequencys there are in the music) if you own a guitar or bass (and amp) just play about with the controls and see what you get David
  11. for a venue without decent monitors or pa a vamp would be useless. so one would be useless in somewhere like drakes that mainly runs on stage volume. while would work fine in lava... the volume issue will probably be down to the user not settingthe volumes on the different patches correctly. to get a nice clean sound, you wont get nowhere near the volume you can when using a heavily distorted sound, so you cant just stick the volume control on each patch the same and have them set right, you need to switch between them editing the volumes to get them set equal David
  12. id go and ask over in the forums (more specifically the effects forum) at www.harmony-central.com they will be able to help you for sure i would check out www.robertkeeley.com, he mods pedals (and makes some of hs own) like tubescreamers and boss distortions, and from what i have heard, does some bloody amazing stuff, he will sell premodded pedals, or you can send him in your own to get modded David David
  13. i own one, and know quite a few people that own them, (2, pro, and the 1x12 combo) and pretty much everythign ive heard has been excellent for computer recording they are great, havent tried one live but again, i know of people who have done this regularly and its worked great. plug it into the pa and get all your sound through the monitors (not an onstage amp) i dont really use mine much, as i prefer to use my 'real' amp, but it does sound excellent (i need some proper speakers though) David
  14. did you get the pm i sent you? David
  15. secondhand would be a good bet also, if you have access to some half decent pc speakers/hifi or would be happy practising on headphones you could get a amp modelling device, the Korg ampworks got really good reviews in guitar buyer and the bass vamp is supposedly very good too. plus both come in under budget David
  16. cool, working on downlaoding them all now... David
  17. ive only heard Suvara and thoght they were most excellent, i still havent actually managed to come to a real gig though, saw you once at the hut n a sunday, and once when we were gettting shown how all the sound gear works at the lemon tree someday i will remember and come along and see you David
  18. i havent even opened it, it is still lying about wherever i put it when i took it off the cover and i dont intend opening it anytime soon David
  19. for a concept album try Avantasia - the metal opera. theres a story in the booklet (nice fantasy job) and all the songs are different characters parts of the story (its got lots of singers from different bands) some are the story, some are what was going thruogh the characters minds in that part... its full of kickass songs anyway David
  20. BC Rich NJ Neck thru Assassin Marshall Strat copy from left to right... Marshall footswitch Marshall BB-2 bluesbreaker Zoom Tri-metal ProCo RatII Dunlop crybaby Dunlop tremolo/volume and a DC-9 power supply to run them all from Marshall JCM2000 DSL401 David
  21. if you are still in school, might be worth a try seeing if they have any double basses you could try. David
  22. try and get a chance to play with a Behringer Vamp2. i know many people who own them (and own one myself) and everyone seems to love them. the general concensus is that the amp sims are just as good as a pod (if not better) and they are much much cheaper...which leaves you with more cash towards the upgrade to a valve amp best idea is to try and get a shot of one, and if possible, a/b them against all the others (POD, tonelabs) to see what you like best David
  23. the valve in the vox valetronix stuff is basically there for show... i dont think it really adds much to the sound, as for the valvetronix in general, the reviews very widely from perfect 5 star reviews (from guitar mags and other suck 'impartial sources') and amusingly crappy... so i wouldnt rely on one of them for a 'valve' sound for a valve amp on the cheap, try Laneys LC15, LC15R, LC30 and LC50 for cheap but decent sounding valve amps (according to everyone i know whos tryed them) David
