    guitar amps

it would probably be a good idea to check second hand, places like loot or ebay and old valve head would be an excellent idea, some marshall tube heads (like JCM800/900/2000) can go pretty cheaply sometimes David
  2. for me, Les Pauls, heavy, chunky, sound awsome, etc... David
  3. 70 for a body is pretty cheap, most are a few hundred warmoth stuff is supposed to be excellent, or getting stuff from ebay can give you some excellent deals David
  4. hard to do if you dont want to bee too loud for the whole thing it might be an idea to buy and eq or boost pedal, an eg pedal can really help you stand out, what settings do you use on your amp? if you use a scooped type of sound (highish bass and treble, low mids) then that will stop you from standing out, and eq could help you out temperarily for solos it would probably be a good idea to go to the seymore duncan site (www.seymoreduncan.com i think) and have a look there, they have sound clips of all their pickups and a tone chart that lets you see roughly what they will sound like David
  5. the avt100 i had at drakes only ever gave me feedback when i didnt want it.......that was the clean channel with a pedal running the dist (ProCo rat) when i actually tried getting it to feedback (over the intro of a song where it would sound cool) it didnt seem to want to bah David
  6. i like the little mini cymbals on top of some of the normal ones David
  7. fender bullets are shite, the bullet end dosent make any difference to the guitars tuning, and the strings are crap, that is the view of all the guitar forums i visit... i always used ernie balls, worked fine for me, tried out some daddario's, also work fine, ive only had a few breakages from ernie balls, but that was on a cheap guitar with crappy saddles, or after 4 months of heavy abuse with a floyd so either work for me, im not too fussed David
  8. shure sm57 and sm58's are the industry standards in vocal and instrument mics, indestructible and sound great i think behringer do some pretty cheap copys of them if your short on cash David

    Shit

its actualy quite common for guitars to be made that way, it is strong enough when its done properly but that sucks, i hope you can get it fixed David
  10. i htink harmonys are like pinch harmonics, they can sound really cool when used in the right place, but they can be used too much by some bands David
  11. Re: Re: Re: Re: humbuckers 'n' stuff. you can custom order the pickups from sd andthey can put on different coloured covers if you dont want to sound like tom delonge on enema of the state the invader is a bad idea, thats what he uses anyway. David
  12. does the user name provide any clues? David
  13. i would actually love that, i always store picks in my mouth when playing a bass fingerey or setting somethign up, much easyere than trying to take a drink at the same time (though i can do that too) David
  14. get yourself over to www.aubl.net and check out the downloads page full of local bands stuff David
  15. as long as your adapter covers the correct suppy needed by the pedal you will be fine most adapters will cover this, boss is pretty much a standard in power needs i think David
  16. yamaha make some good and cheap basses and id also recommend you take a look at peavey basses, cant remember the exact prices or models, but they make some decent quality, cheap kit, David
  17. or use our fine public transport network (ie, the bus) from town to george street, and from there a two minute walk to toms David

  19. i have heard many things about marshall having an excellent after sales service, you have just added another happy customer to their list i know of someone who had a similar problem to you, had a problem, get it repaired locally, it screwed up again pretty soon after so he went to the marshall factory (happened to live close by) they took it in and repaired it for him no questions asked and even loaned him another head to use while they were fixing up his one at the moment im thinking whether i am wanting to try and save up for an Ashdown fallen angel (40watt combo) or a Marshall jcm2000 (40 watt dsl combo) the marshalls are supposed to have some relaibility issues, but im hearing lots of good things about them fixing any broken amps and generally being excellent chaps the other question is do i want marshall type crunchy gain (also possible to some degree with a marshall dist pedal), or the ashdowns metal gain (which i havent found a good pedal for yet) David
  20. student id's dont carry the list of deals on them, so they arent as convenient as a snap fax, plus i think they sometimes encourage you to share your deals out between you and your friends anyways, i intend trying to get hold of one for myself, not that im a student or anything, i just want som deals David
  21. Black Atom - Fallen Starfall - 0wn4ge (or however you spell it) David
  22. i would say it would be best to get a few lessons to start with, it can be 'more rewarding' doing it yourself, but you will pick up some bad habits, bad hand positions etc.... one or two lessons (at least) to get you going on the right track personally i didnt get along with lessons too well, but the ones i did take were usefull, i took some when i first started to get me going (just plain guitar lessons) and some more later on to keep me going in the right direction (but for rock guitar, not in general) David
  23. note the used part and i know they are probably the standard or whatever but i much prefer having a clicky button that stays on or off and im not too keen on the construction, and i found that out partly after using them, thats my personal view though not anyone elses David
  24. i got lessons from bruce millers, 8 a lesson for a 45 minute group lesson or 11ish for a lesson on your own i think it might have changed though im not sure David
  25. have a look at this it could help you out David
