HateEvent
Hello peoples. Just been thinking, I'm gonna be getting gigs up and running soonish hopefully and was wondering, whats the deal on covering songs? Is it greatly frowned upon or welcomed? Like for instance to maybe have an 8 song set and play original, cover, original, original, cover, original, cover, original. Would that be bad? Cos me and my drummer have been changing about some parts of songs and think it would be stupid to neglect them for playing live. What do you people with more knowledge/ experience think? rune
A really would give all cover bands a wide berth
Mouse
Personally I don't mind bands playing cover songs, good idea
calum
The odd cover song is cool if its done well. I would suggest varying which bands songs you cover, because i've seen one band for example, play several Blink covers and get absolutely slaughtered for it on here. HateEvent
reWe were thinking one Metallica, one Slayer, one Pantera. That kinda thing. Shows that we can pull off the different stuff aswell sorta thing. And obviously originals too. Keep replies coming dudes, I wanna know how the majority would take to the idea, cos we don't wanna get slaughtered as you're saying. Skull Commander
I would say a couple is ok, but speaking personally I like to hear them near the end of the set. One other thing I would say is make sure you are good at them, because people generally do not tolerate their fave songs being mauled. Good luck with whatever you decide to do, and let me know when you are playing!
HeinzHines
One or two is fine....but if you butcher them dont expect to play again.....But on another note, should you really care what we all think? If you have fun playing them, then fuck it just do it.......
Mordred
As long as you play mainly your own material with cover songs to lengthen the set i see no problem with that. You can fade out the amount you play the more songs you write You cant be expected to have 10 killer songs straight off the bat ( although i suppose it is possible)
the_beastly_one
I wouldn't recommend doing any very well known songs, for example, if you were to cover Slayer, I'd probably prefer to see something other then Angel Of Death, Raining Blood or South of Heaven. Or maybe that's just me, but it puts me off sometimes when I see bands doing it. Plus if you were to go for something a little more obscure, you could mess up, knowing that most of the crowd won't know it anyway.
Fast Caz
Go for something the crowd wont expect ..no ones wnats to see a fresh band playing the same metallica or slayer cover.
HateEvent
reYeah i totally understand the not playing of famous songs. For slayer, it'd prob be spirit in black, skeletons of society or postmortem. For metallica it'd be no remorse, blackened or holier than thou. Pantera would be domination, strength beyond strength or fucking hostile. What metallica and slayer and pantera songs usually get played? Guest Bob Double Jack
I would love to hear Dead Skin Mask or Seasons in the Abyss. Great tunes.
HateEvent
reI was gonna say both of them as we know both of them too. I just usually find the faster songs more fun to play instead, but if our own stuff is all reasonably fast then seasons would work well.
