Shaki
I bought their album Crane Wife on a whim and I am quite obsessed with it. I enjoyed this video: SXSW 2009: The Decemberists- The Crane Wife - Festival News: 2009 SXSW - Videos - IFC.comAnyone?
nullmouse
I do so love The Decemberists. The new album, The Hazards of Love, is a veritable rock opera - something I'd normally balk at - but it's marvellous and I'm unashamedly addicted to it.For my money, they'll have to go a long way to beat The Mariner's Revenge Song from Picaresque ( - not the original video), but most stuff they release is gold. Shaki
Crane Wife is the only one I have. Shall buy them all.

I picked up the Hazards of Love without knowing its 'concept' and was a bit bummed once I realised what it was... until I realised it bucked the trend of those pretensious as hell albums by actually being bloody brilliant. Tav
Fantastic band! Colin Meloy solo live album got me into them, it's fantastic! He was NPR radio and I *think* you can still stream/download the set from all songs considered section of their site.I've got 4 or 5 albums and I love them all. Great band live, Colin is a great front man, very entertaining. Hazards of Love would be a bad place to start, but it is a good progression for them as a band. Graham
Picaresque is ace! My favourite Decemberists album by miles. Need to give the other albums more listens though.

Pity they're only playing London.
Lemonade
I've got one of their albums on my iPod and I've never actually listened to it yet. Have been meaning too....
TR!ΔNGL€ T€€TH
I have heard a couple of songs and quite enjoyed them. This thread makes me think that I should invest in an album or two....Or at least have a swatch on Spotify.
Swingin' Ryan
The Decemberists are amazing. They have that rare thing of sounding 'classic' but totally unique at the same time. In a world of sweaty boy-rock bands they're a ray of light.New album is brilliant. I think Picaresque is probably my favourite album they've done, On The Bus Mall is one of the best songs of the 00's in my eyes.
Pierre Von Mondragon
I like their newer Riff-Laden direction now, less keen on the twee moments, but 'Repaid' is awesome.
mmd040
I have tickets for the Coronet in London on 19th November and I can't bloody wait. The whole of Hazards of Love followed by a second set of other material.

Paranoid Android
One of those bands where I have one album (Picaresque) which I really like but I've never really felt a strong desire to investigate the rest of their discography. The Hazards of Love is a good record too, but I feel it is overly long. And as it is a concept album, I can never really just listen to the odd song; I have to go for the whole thing. I am a bit weird like that...I shall definitely make the effort to go and see them in March, excited!
nullmouse
Got my tickets for Glasgow too Awesome times! Really looking forward to hearing the new album and will be very interested to hear what it'll be like after Hazards of Love (which is definitely an album that needs to be listened to from start to finish each time).
