I see the ram's now have their first winning record for 5 years. I find that bizarre.the Jets take on the texans on monday. I predict an absolute thrashing followed by crisis headlines. There can be no other outcome. It's possibly my favorite time to be in new york when an NY team play monday night football. People go absolutely nuts for it. Channel 4 has the Sunday 1am game. BBC has the Monday night football (1am kickoff).I like the Giants on offense I'd like to see some better defense from them, especially with the pass rushers they have. JPP is an absolute specimen - almost unblockable when he's on his game and Tuck is a monster too. At teh moment tho, teams seem to be finding ways to counteract their effectiveness. Need Spag back. Again, they look clueless most of the time but they threw absolutely everything at it and they should get credit for that. They were unlucky on a few plays (great onside kick attempt) and if that Watt fella wasn't so good at tipping the ball away every single fucking time, it could have been a different story. I was a little bit worried about Mangold going off injured - that would have been the Jets' 3 best players out - but then I remembered this man is no normal human being.Not the thrashing I was expecting. The offense that I played in for the last 4 years used the same concept, so when I wrote the playbook I'm installing with the Uni team I coach, I used exactly the same idea. It's not only got the advantage of being able to call it in and relay it quickly when we huddle, but it's got the HUGE advantage (as the Pats are showing) of being able to audible on the line and change the play. That's something that gives you a massive advantage over the opposition. Last year we ran a complex, inflexible system very bady and there were times when we'd line up and the defense, by luck rather than judgement) would be lined up in a way that meant we'd be running straight at a wall of defenders but there was nothing we could do; we'd just run it, get crushed and the morale of the guys (which was pretty low anyway cos we were rubbish) would dip a little more. The year I call the play to the QB, he lines them up and if the play's not on or something is wide open, he'll check into something else and we're cooking on gas. Morale is really good after a team session last Sunday and guys had a proper lightbulb moment when we changed a play and it went for about 15 yards.The're some great stuff online with Jon Gruden and the "Flip right, double-X jet, 36 counter, naked waggle, X-7, X-quarter" stuff. He's an absolute astermind, but he doesn't half make it complicated! His QB Camp videos are ace if you're into seeing the top draft QBs talk about their craft!Any of you guys considered getting involved with the sport and going along to the Roughnecks? I played very briefly when I was at university (WR - Leeds Celtics, go Celtics) but ran away from it before it came to playing any actual games because I was a big wuss who didn't like getting hit by guys double my size. I think I'm better built to withstand it nowadays (mentally rather than physically) but I'm wary of getting hand/wrist knack that gets in the way of playing drums 'n' such. I was playing in bands still when I started out and on the OL, finger/hand/arm/shoulder injuries are probably more likely than anywhere else, but it's so addictive when you get into it that you don't factor that into things.It's an awesome sport to get into, even if you went along and offered to help out as a general assistant to a coach, expanded on your knowledge of the Xs and Os and went from there, it's just such a good thing to be involved in. The technique is a bit different but I've always been able to kick a good conversion or a drop goal. Far too slight of build to play anywhere else but kicking the ball 50 yards does not seem too difficult.I realize I'm talking shite but I'd like to give it a go. Turning up and blasting a few kickoffs and nailing a few FGs/PATs would be really valuable to any team. We have a guy coming back to kick for us next year doing only that (I think it'll be one of the first times in the team's 27 years that we've had a specialist kicker) and he's getting reduced subs to do it. Someone who can get the ball out the back of the end zone on kickoff, thus neutralising the threat of their return, is worth his weight in gold.Accurate from 40 yards (and remember you're never kicking from outside the hash marks) and be able to mash it into/out the back of the EZ from the 30 (and most UK fields are 90yds, so really you're talking about a 60/0yd blast) and you're in business! Some truly tremendous catches were made and Manning just oozed class and authority as Rivers wavered. Brilliant game.Noob question time: leonhard intercepted the ball, then went to ground, therefore the play is over and the broncos take possession at the point where he hit the ground and made contact with the opposing player. Then he gets up and spikes the ball into the turf. It looked like they called a foul on him - I didn't really understand the ramifications of that foul. obviously they didn't lose possession because he went off celebrating and shit, but did they lose yards or something. It was just kinda odd - if he wasn't meant to spike the ball then he shouldn't have been celebrating coz he just cost his team something. I already know the result because of twitter but it's good to know about it for future weeks.That sounds like an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for overcelebrating after the interception. As you say, the result of the play isn't overturned but there is a yardage based penalty from the end of the play. He's still celebrating because he got the turnover even with the lost yards it's better to have the ball than to not have the ball. I still think we'll be there or there about in the playoffs come seasons end though.Beginning to believe in the Seahawks a bit more now as they actually beat a good team. The NCAA have got even more hardcore on unsportsmanlike conduct fouls - if you're celebtrating a touchdown before you break the plane of the goalline, no TD, 15 yard pen!
