kirkt
not including double A sides...or live tracks, remixes etc, what do you think the best B-side of a single was?
Mouse
I'd pick something off of Iron Maiden's Best Of The B Sides
Larsen B
I'd say Prologue to History by the Manics or A Plague Upon Your Hissing by the Mars Volta, although it is just an unreleased demo not an actual B-side.
TR!ΔNGL€ T€€TH
Mouths of Babes by the Smashing Pumpkins is quite good from the Zero single/ep...
Guest Tam o' Shantie
the queers - queerbaitwhy that song didn't make the cut for 'punk rock confidential' i have no idea, i can only imagine that they decided to record it seperately just to go on that single
Ross
Vanilla Ice - Ice Ice Baby..A DJ in the states decided to flip the disc over and thus it became the biggest selling rap/hip hop single... Pretty much single handedly got "Whitey" into Rap and Hip Hop.... Although it`s now a bit uncool to admit that you like Vanilla Ice...Also Anneuyrism by Nirvana was the flip side to "That Song"....... Still reckon it`s better. So in my opinion i`d say Nirvana but in terms of what a song accomplished then i`d say Vanilla Ice... and more importantly some wierd dj in the US. Aye, but that was a slower grungier version of aneurysm, the version from insesticide and live versions were better [/Nirvana geek] ...i could never really figure out why they recorded that version, cos i've never found a live recording of it in that arrangement... Guest Jake Wifebeater
Anything that wasn't lifted from an LP. If the B-side song is only available on that one release, it gets my vote.
Skamikazee
There is an amazing acoustic song on Reubens 'Lets stop hanging out' single, I think its called 'Numb at 4 in the morning' or something like that, i cant find the box.
qzdiablo
most of the tracks recorded for b-sides for radiohead's "amnesiac" singles were far better than anything on the lpcuttooth, worrywort and fog in particular
patrickbateman
most manics b-sides are fantastic. Comptroller
'Tarzan' by Rocket From the Crypt, from the 'When In Rome' single. Good enough to qualify as a single in itself, but then RFTC have songs like that coming out of their ears.
Afro Droid
Originally posted by phoenix_down:the wildhearts - basically allt he b-sides on coupled with are great. WH's b-sides are better than most band's singles. AND they almost always record new songs for singles rather than shit remixes or rubbish live versions. Quality and value for money! Untitled
oasis - the masterplanlike the wildhearts, oasis also write songs specifically for b-side but in some cases they fuck it right up with what should be an a-side and what should be a b-sidethe masterplan is a perfect exampletis just one of the finest songs ive ever heard
Mouse
I remember the days of listening to The Masterplan, fine album it is, definately shows B-sides ain't worse than A's
Ross
Round Our Way was a great B side by Oasis....Early Oasis B Sides were rather good....Infact wasn`t Cigarettes and Alchohol B side - I am The Walrus recorded at King Tuts.

-matthEw-
have to agree with the few people that have said "the masterplan"its such a good song, how on earth did it end up as a B-Side.infact, the whole album The Masterplan has some wonderful tracks, namely, Talk Tonight, Fade Away, Half the World Away and Headshrinker. kirkt
I would say; Aeroplane Flies High by Smashing Pumpkins (how did that not make it onto Mellon Collie?), the Masterplan by Oasis (although they had so many good b-sides), Winter Wookie by Belle and Sebastian and Aneurysm by Nirvana
kirkt
infact aeroplane flies high ranks up there with thru the eyes of ruby and glass & the ghost children as one of my fave pumpkins songs (note all of them over 7 mins)
