Guest Giles Walker
It has kind of struck me recently that no one on this board really ever talks about dance music. What dance music do you guys actually like at the moment?
lepeep
I often talk about "dance music"...but it's only about 1% of this boards taste...I figured (?)I've been listening to :MaurizioCabinet ClassicsMin to Max comp (plus 8 - Richie hawtin)VR96 (moreminimal experimentation than "dance music")...then there's all the "electronica" we (a few) talk about too...are you drunk again? Elizabeth
I'm not sure what kind of stuff you're putting into that genre, so, I'm just going to go for:Piece of Me - Britney Spears...anything by Cascada...and Justice vs Simian - We Are Your FriendsYeah, the good, bammy stuff. Scootray
I'm not much of a dance fan, although I will dance to commercial stuff with a bit of booze. Liking a bit of Simian Mobile Disco atm, as well as The Knife, although they'd be a bit more electronic than dance.
Guest Giles Walker
Nah i'm not drunk, i was just wondering what dance music you guys listened to. Since i am a dj who predominantly plays dance music. Just interested really, although will say that the term electronica is an americanism that i am not too keen on.I class dance music as non rock, dancable music, so from say Ricardo Villalobos to Dj Assault to Escort to Switch. Scootray
Dave, next time in Exo, I'm going to ask you for The Knife. Play it, please!
Guest Giles Walker
Silent Shout has never failed to get people dancing when i have dropped it, but its strange you feel Simian Mobile Disco aren't dancable. I felt they were so overtly aiming to be dancable (124-130bpm, four the floor beats etc) that they border on being cheesy. The Whip have never really managed to fill a floor for me, even though i do like them. StewCat
is venetian snares dance music? Chocolate Wheelchair album & Winnipeg is a Frozen Shithole are classic albums.
Guest Giles Walker
I've managed to get really good floors to The Whip's "Sister Siam" on occasion. It's not a staple by any means but it does fill the gaps very nicely. What do you play by Simian MD? I've given "It's The Beat" and "Hustler" ample opportunities, but they just generally fall flat.Weird! I get requested for Hustler and It's The Beat so much that i have gone from thinking they are okay to actually resenting having to play them. I usually play the dub version of It's The Beat, stick some acapella over it, then quick mix into Pump Up The Jam and quickly get into something less cheesy. That M.A.N.D.Y and Booka Shade tune Body Language is another tune i get requested so much i am now not really a fan any more.
Guest Giles Walker
I really don't understand why it has about a minute and a half of bare beats at the start of it, but dropping it into the mix at the right moment (especially if you drop it melodically) will pretty guarantee a reaction. Any Kitsune or Ed Banger fans on here?

Stripey
I've got to admit, I passed on that one after a single play. It obviously benefits from a bit of sonic manipulation when you're playing it liveLive in what sense? but playing it straight just leads to tumbleweed city. Maybe I'll give it another shot once I've got to grips with Ableton!Maybe you should read a book or something.

la mula
I've been getting some tracks from the charts on Beatport.com, mainly tech house/house/minimal, there's so much good stuff you can check out there. Funkagenda - What The Fuck (original club mix)Oh and that Archangel remix that was linked on here is amazin too.
Edgar Graham
Dusty Kid, Marc Houle, Martin Eyerer and DIM are doing it for me right now. Also been listening to the Justice album again and I am appreciating it more than before. The Soulwax remix of Phantom Pt. 2 beats any of the original tracks on the album though in my opinion. KarmaTsunami
Just waiting to get my copy of gui through the post! Love The Field and Matthew Dear right now. Holy Fuck is a constant staple as well. The Field are pretty good, but I always thought the Matthew Dear record was more poppy than dance. Although listening to it you could still boogy. Audion is a fave too.
