  1. Well just because something is a generalization doesn't mean there is no truth in it.
  2. Edgar Graham may have a point . . . I know 2 people in real life who listen to dubstep and they could both easily be described as pretentious twats.
  3. Check out the Electronic Explorations mixes, a bunch (if not all, I dunno) of them are available for download on themixingbowl.org. My favourites so far have been by Ekelon, Ital Tek and Forensix. Vex'd also released one, it's has some great moments.
  4. One of my favourite bands ever. "Safety Second, Body Last" is their best work imo.
  5. That's right. You should do a blind test, that's the best way.
  6. Yeah, maybe shops like tesco and asda stop a lot of people bothering to go into a record shop. If singles weren't shit from albums with a couple of filler tracks I would buy them, I actually prefer the idea of a good single to a good album. Albums are too long, imo, I never listen to them all the way through and maintain concentration.
  7. I think 8-bit music is quite a good representative of Aberdeen music in general. Any other Sabrepulse fans glad he threw in the towel? Maybe he found out about that cartridge . . . probably.
  8. Aberdeen is a bit pish period, I don't think the music scene isn't particularly bad in context. I'd like more small gigs and events rather than AECC and music hall ones but most people don't care so much about intimacy, they're more about seeing bands that they're into.
  9. I'm into no underground music really. Apart from bands my friends are in, but I don't think that counts.
  10. Mr Man remix is cool, the Striphy one is hardly a remix, just just sounds like some samples jammed in a dubstep template. The whole tune is so meeeeeeeh.
  11. In order to correct spelling at some point you will have to take grammar into account.
  12. Ah I see, I was pretty disappointed by it being more of the "drum n bass" format than his more abstract styles. And yeah, I've only listened to a small amount of this catalogue and already had a few OMG moments.
  13. I really like the vocals samples - where are they from? I like the "drops" as well, if y'know what I mean. I agree with what other people said about the beat, I think it could be a bit more . . . artsy. The background atmosphere sounds are cool, remind me of Cdatakill.
  14. What did u think of it? And compared to his early stuff? I just finished downloading a 4.7GB torrent of Moving Shadow releases. It cost me a shitload of bandwidth though.
  15. How? Forgive me for being a bit dense but isn't this software for manipulating recorded sound, which he doesn't dabble in? I'd like to hear him explain how he thinks he can digitally create a human voice singing n shit.
  16. Why do you automatically focus on the negative? Why not consider the possible outcomes of this program in the hands of good artists, artists who will put a little 'grit' into their use of it? Do you think MTV and music in its vein actually gotten worse as technology has progressed and widened the possibilities? FEAR AND LOVE.
  17. Yeah I understand that this means nothing in regards to this thread, I said that on page 2, just thought you might be interested since you contradicted me on the matter.
  18. Here's a page at the hydrogenaudio forums with a similar image. Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stadium Arcadium - Hydrogenaudio Forums
  19. Haha, no wonder it sounds fishy, I got confused, it's not a spectral analysis, but a wave comparison. Sorry about that. I thought this image would be useful since it's the same kind as shown in the video you linked. Edit: Bet you wish you hadn't used that forehead slapping image already
  20. It's from what.cd, I would have embedded the image but it's not mine, I can send it though.
  21. So I just looked into this and saw a spectral analysis of both the vinyl and digital versions of a song from Stadium Arcadium and it turns out that no compression was used on the vinyl, unlike the digital version. So at least some, if not most vinyl is mastered better (ie. not just for loudness) than cd.
  22. Ok, I admit that the loudness war most likely has nothing to do with bands releasing on vinyl and not cd. Back off topic though, if you've heard some of the extreme examples of the loudness war, have a look and see if you can find out who mastered the cd version and the vinyl version. "Californication" by RHCP is a famous one, mastered by Vlado Meller. I couldn't see on discogs.com who mastered the vinyl of that, but with the more recent "Stadium Arcadium", the cd version was mastered by Vlado Meller and the vinyl by Kevin Gray and Steve Hoffman. I've heard that a lot of bands have their vinyls mastered seperately to their cds. Whether or not they limit the dynamics and then adjust the EQ etc the way Stripey described, or simply master it to sound good, I can only speculate, I suppose it depends on how important panning and stuff are to the record company.
  23. How is that the opposite? If vinyl cannot be mastered to be louder due to physical limitations, then how can it apply equally? ?(
