Guest Tam o' Shantie
forgot to mention pop/chart singers who are hailed as something special because they rip off a certain credible genre, be it 'making opera cool!''taking jazz piano into the 21st century!'or just the whole 'She's not just an ordinary pop singer, she's got a soulful edge!' thing. Guest Ibid
I'm bad for picking up all sorts of weird and wonderful CDs from all sorts of sources. Some I get sent, some I buy at gigs and some I find in strange shops. I will listen to absolutely anything from any genre and even mainstream acts and if I like it, I keep it. I think all musicians have a contribution to make and should be respected for it. I despise musical snobbery. I would never say who or what I thought was the worst, my mind doesn't work like that. The best or rather what I liked recently....Real Shocks, Mind Gone Blind, a cracking little Clash inspired demo from The Works, Small Enclosed Area, Quik, Breeve, Little Big Men, The Method....please note if I've missed anyone out, it's not because I dislike them. Lawy Lawson:Attorney
Ah, lets get stuck in!I hate Rage Against the Machine. They're the musical equivelant of fat kids from Bieldside who go to Uni and join the Socialist Society and post badly drawn, condenscending posters about George Bush being Ronald McDonald or some such shite in phone boxes and sneer at people for wearing Lynx or something. I think they're talented, but listening to that humourless twat Zack De La Rocha lisp his way through a Micheal Moore book fucks me off. I don't like the whole funk thing much either. In their case, it sounds horrible although I do apprecaite their technical skill. Sometimes, I feel like voting Conservative because I know it'll piss off RATM fans. Yes, they annoy me THAT much.*I really fucking hate Tool. Sticking a 3 minute sample of a clown crying or the German national anthem played backwards is not arty. Well, maybe it is, but only to people who think Donnie Darko is the best film ever.I hate Led Zepplin, Nirvana, Black Sabbath and all the other fucking musical sacred cows that get rammed down my throat, and have been rammed down our collective conciousnesses' throat until it gagged and puked up shite like The Vines . If I were allowed to discover these bands on my own, I probaly would have liked them, but no, I'm supposed to worship at the shrine of Kurt Cobain or Jimmy Page or some shite? Fuck OFF! (I understand that this isn't the band's fault, but the medias, which is a little sad).RAR! LAWY LAWSON SMASH!!* I should probaly add, that I definitley do not vote Tory and I thought Donnie Darko was actully pretty good, in case anyone left their humour detectors or ability to read tone at home today. I doubt it! You might think they're 'piss' but they're one of my favourite bands in the whole world. I don't think they were 'uppity' at all, and you certainly didn't 'smoke' them. I'd say that was one of the best gigs i've ever seen, too. And as they were one of the pioneers of the style (pop-punk that is, not in the unthreatening-expensive-skate-clothes-and-backwards-cap sense either) I wouldn't say it was dated at all and that they have every right to be playing good 60s rock'n'roll / surf influenced punk rock 15 + years on from the beginning... Guest highroller
ok so taking on board what you said then yeah...why did they have a problem with us...not that it bothered us...it made for a really good story at the gig after that....and dan and i burst out laughing after they said it....just interested to hear your views on why they would do what they did...bearing in mind ok that i know phils girlfriend quite well and she gave an explanation that quite obviously was from him...surely you dont endorse that behaviour...its just not cool...imagine if we played a show with you and i was like "yeah so thanks to ten easy green days....you suck so bad"....**note...i bought the tew album and a tee shirt and im a big fan of the band even though i KNOW they think BOTH my bands are pish (even though they used to love quik and are too cool to admit that now )
Guest Tam o' Shantie
joe told me that he thought your on-stage talk about them being 'punk rock' legends was a bit cheeky, and to be fair as far as i know none of you had listened to them before and now you say they're shite so I guess he was right! Guest highroller
i was doing the nice polite thing and bigging them up....i knew that there was a large section of their fans at the back so i said that we were in the presence of legends....no one apart from him thought i was being cheeky...really...why the fuck would I?? I did it to try and be nice...he's obviously paranoid because he is the only one that took it like that...oh well...job was done anyway... *Amy*
I hate Iron Maiden soooooo much. Off the cheese-scale by a country mile.'No More Lie's'.... I don't like Nirvana, I think they were pish. So I choose not to listen to them.Yeah, anything else... I don't like, I don't listen. Simple as.
Mr.Tim
i am not a big fan of iron maiden myself but that is just my opinion ! any band who try and be cool and do dance music can go lick my fucking balls as dance music isn't good enough to be shat on ! Mouse
I think Amy should listen to some Manowar I just hate this modern "rock/metal" dubbed "Emo" or "alternative" thing going on, it's pish, and the music is dull and uninspired. As always I hate most commercial crap because it's only there for money, and sadly the real musicians get paid less than the posers in today's world! I dont think it's much different, just trying to show you what it's like from toms perspective. And the leaving before you play hypothesis, dont know where it came from - but it's not true in the slightest. I love music and love watching bands play,i wouldn't bail on a band, unless they were really shit.Originally posted by Ben Quik:ill be honest paul....it really wouldnt be hard IN MY OPINION for any good band to "smoke" them so it wasnt a bigging up MMW comment at all.... I know it's your opinion, but if i had been put on a bill with anyone thats achieved as much in their own field as the queers, lets say... Andrea Bocelli even: if i did think i'd played him off the stage.. i wouldn't tell everyone - i'd keep it to myself, for personal satisfaction. Such comments only give over a bad vibe to people like myself that weren't at the gig...
