  9. I was at the gig, and I thought it was immense. I suppose half the fun, certainly in the days leading up to the gig, was to whether or not the boy was gonna actually turn up. The boy obviously needs to sort himsel oot, he's a state, but I don't think anyone who was there could deny that something cool happened on Thurs night. High energy gig, great tunes, and it's quite funny thinking that almost half the audience left after the first encore and then missed the likes of 'Don't Look Back Into The Sun' and 'What A Waster'. There's been a ridiculous amount of hype afforded to The Libertines and Pete Doherty over the last few years. They simply don't have the strength in depth of songs to back this up, although there's been some undeniably classic tunes coming out of that combo. Great singles band. 'What Katie Did', a non-single, was stunning, however. Doherty apologised for the no-show the last time, and I think he was trying to make up for it by playing for over 2 hours, when most of us thought it would be a hundred-mile-an-hour-ramshakle-thirty-minute-set. I think Aberdeen will struggle to see a better gig this year, in my opinion. 'Little By Little' or 'Take Me Out' stadium rock, or 'Kilamangiro' in a sweaty, small venue, there's no contest really. For Thursday night anyway, I take my (bowler?) hat off to Pete Doherty.

  12. It's the tunes for me, man! I just know when an album's great. Just get that feeling that I'm never gonna get bored of it, ever. I'd be here all day, but most recently, been digging 'Ambulance Ltd', but ask me that in a year!
  13. I think it's really difficult for me to distinguish between overrated records, and ones which I just really don't like. I think a lot of records immortalised and immersed in mystique when something huge happens, such as the death of a band member. Who knows what sort've impact the Nirvana, Joy Division and Buckley records would've had otherwise. Probably big, but not that big. This can also happen where a band, due to in fighting, disputes or whatever, implodes. Take The La's & The Stone Roses records for instance, cracking in their own right, but both shrouded in mystique after what subsequently went on. Then there's the so-called Top 100 albums, where yer Radiohead and Beatles records feature highly. A lot of the praise is probably just passed down by ambitious music journos trying to sound cool by name-dropping Revolver etc. I've never really got Radiohead, and I've never really got The Clash. I own 'London Calling' and a few others, and while it's good, I don't think it's great, but then that all just boils down to opinion. I think a more useful poll would be for underrated albums, of which I can think of heaps.

  24. Well, seeing as this thread has inadvertently become a tribute to yours truly, I'll throw in my tuppenceworth! Seeing the Dons win in Gothenburg would've been special! (I did actually see this particular game, however, it was from my bouncy chair in a sleepsuit, so it doesn't really count!!!) Going to see The Stone Roses at Spike Island and Glasgow Green would've been ace. Going to see Oasis at Knebworth would've been cool too!
