  1. Christ, having them removed off your faced, wonder what he came out of that looking like. I wonder if those two guys ever got laid.
  2. God I'd forgotten about those! You're right, there was a spider's web fella too, I think he may have been the younger brother.
  3. Semi true. If its instant I take it black no sugar. If its a double espresso after a meal, a sachet of brown. Definitely not white. TPBM reads Iain Banks but not Iain M Banks.
  4. I think there was a thread about this a few years back but I can't find it and may be mistaken. Anyway, my girlfriend and I watched a very sinister little film last night, Mark of the Devil, about a man who robs a tattooist who is into voodoo, and murders him, and then finds a tattoo depicting the murder spreading across his whole body and face. It got me thinking about that guy we used to call Tattoo Man who I always used to see around George Street, though I think he lived in Jute Street, who had his whole face tattooed and the rumour was his whole body as well. He used to scare the living shit out of me and apparently didn't like being stared at. A mate told me they once saw him in the Sherriff Court charged with assault and his reason was because the guy had been staring at him, to which the Sherriff quipped "what on earth do you expect?" Is he still seen around? Anyone know who he is? I always wondered what job he managed to get looking like that!
  5. Being from Cullen I'm bound to second this. Cullen House grounds are splendid for an afternoon ramble, the Crannach Hill and Findlater Castle/ Sunnyside Beach are lovely, and the old railway line to Portknockie is great too. A bus from Aberdeen takes you right there. Or, get a bus to Fochabers and take the Winding Walks through Whiteash Hill. Magnificent.
  6. False. But I was on a train that got stuck in the snow and caught fire about a hundred miles from there. TPBM still watches Have I Got News for You.
  7. Well it is now.... Shameless plug I know but if you get this, containing JABG and three others, for only 6.99: The Peter McDougall Collection (5 Disc) [DVD]: Amazon.co.uk: Peter Mcdougall: DVD you get a bonus disc with a documentary about the man himself written and presented by yours truly. If you are fond of Just a Boy's Game you should fine it interesting!
  8. HI Mark. This thread has proved useful to me since I'vce only just come back on here after about three years and haven't a clue who most of the people being referred to are...
  9. Sunnyside Beach near Cullen is amazing. If you park the car at Barnyards of Findlater (it is signposted, just off the A98) and walk along the path past the dovecot, you'll hit the cliffs and the ruin of Findlater Castle. Follow the path to the left and it will take you down to a deserted beach and probably the best beach on that stretch of the coast. Also the Speymouth Forest is filled with lovely picnic spots. Fochabers is a town surrounded by them. Best of all is the earth pillars at Ordiequish. Park the car, walk about twenty paces to the picnic tables and you have a view over the whole county. Enjoy!
  10. Just A Boy's Game without a doubt. Martin Scorcese said it was the best pub fight he'd ever seen on the screen. But that's Greenock for you!
  11. A band that have completely passed my by until now, and today I heard a track by them and thought it was beautiful. Anyone else a fan?
  12. My first proper date was in the Wild Boar. Nice Sticky Toffee Pudd I remember. I was last in there a few months ago and it seemed to be unsure what it wanted to be anymore, it had a games machine, a shit bar and no atmosphere, whereas before it seemed to gear itself to being a cosy place to have a few nibbles and some drinks in a group that was classy but not too formal.
  13. I found out today that the biggest outbreak of typhoid in the 20 century in Britain was in Aberdeen in 1964.It was casueed by Argentinian corned beef that had been improperly stored and then sold from a shop on Union St called William Lowes. There were about a dozren deaths I believe.
  14. By the way, dont bank with NatWest on Union St. I temped there for a while and couldnt believe what went on.
  15. The black guy off the review show on BBC2. Ekow Eshun. He is a total penis. He's always got this stupid shit eating grin on his face as he slags off some film or book someone has spent their life doing their best on.Once in a discussion about Gregory's Girl he referred to the bit where there's a kid dressed as a penguin in the school corridor and he seriously said "you see we are all penguins looking for our mate, so it was very symbollic." That and call centres. I was recently trying to book a ticket to Aberdeen and was asked if it was on the Underground.
  16. I did that on a date once in Seaton Park on a lovely summer's eve and certainly had the ice broken when slightly ahead of us we saw a bunch of casuals go running over to a couple who were shagging. They had managed to make themselves pretty secluded but had been spotted. I think they tried to steal some of their clothes. The guy jumped up with a massive erection and chased them.
  17. After getting totally fed up with the appalling Nationwide I went to Lloyds a few months back and I have never experienced such incredibly good custoimer serivce from a bank. I got shown into an office, given tea, everything was incredibly civilised and decent. I then put a load of money in the account and it vanished! I was then told one of my IDs hadnt been photocopied properly by them and so to prevent fraud the account was suspended until it was sorted. It took ages and was a hassle but they were incredibly decent about it and what impressed me was being phoned up by a human being at the branch regularly and not speaking to a call centre. I will allow them that one screw up cos I am impressed. Plus I like the horsey logo.
  18. With any luck he's retired now or been struck off but I briefly had lessons with a guy called Ally Anderson. He traded under the name of AA so people assumed he was the more famous AA. He was a complete tosser, a very nasty man and terrorized pupils and other motorists.
  19. Oh no, how disappointing. I assume the Neptune and so on are still in business. 524 has looked closed for 20 years but hasnt been so I assume nothing can stop that place.
  20. God this thread brings back memories. I'm coming home for a few weeks after a long absence at the start of June: who fancies a harbour crawl starting and endin in The Moorings, assumning someone doesn't end us first in Peep Peeps...
  21. I actually really like Poldinos. Not La Lambada though, that place has gone downhill severly! (PS My first post for about two years!)
  22. Brilliantly put Flash mate, it's absolutely spot on. The funeral, according to the clipping in the P&J my dad sent me, is tomorrow at Ellon. Donations are to go to a mental health charity. I remember his mum lived in Udny; I'm up at Christmas (yes it's been ages) and when I am I'll drop in, and remind me to tell you the story about Dave and his pyjamas.
  23. A well known cult around Aberdeen, and mentioned on this board a few times in the past, but I have just found out that Dave Murdoch committed suicide on 23rd November by jumping off the bridge in Union Street. Does anyone know any more details, ie what prompted him to do this? I knew Dave quite well for a while years back, and he was still fairly level-headed then, but within a year he had slid into heavy drinking and depression and every time I have bumped into him in Aberdeen ever since he just seemed to be more and more beyond reach. Anyway, RIP Dave; I'll raise a glass to you.
