  1. They called him "a champion of BritPop" on News 24. Could anything be further from the truth? What's more, Bruno Brooks was on paying tribute. ?!?!?!
  2. I never liked Queen except for the Queen II album which I love, but what I can't understand is that they were never dumped on like other pomp rock bands of the era...what made them immune?
  3. Ah, the Prince of Wales... Still more a fan of the Tilted Wig, great beers, great jukebox and always friendly. Incidentally my local in London has, I have just discovered, the most astounding jukebox. It has TWO MILLION songs available to instantly download...image my delight (although maybe not the other punters) at seeing unreleased Marillion and IQ tracks...! Sure these will begin to catch on now, amazing! Although a quid a song is a bit dangerous!
  4. New Wave was where it came together for me, The Passions, Pink Military, The Jam etc... Punk I found a patchy affair and a pretty much a dead end street as a genre.
  5. I have to agree with the idea that the Pistols created but also destroyed Punk...Silly Thing?!?! But The Clash to me were just a good rock 'n' roll band, not much very punky about them, and yet some say they were the only true punk act... But I adore Oasis...
  6. Personally I loathe ABBA, sick of people being "ironic" and dancing to them when at the time everyone knew they were a joke. Totally up themselves too. Think The Clash are pretty overrated, for me its Bowie or Floyd for both being unique. Any track by them you play and you know its them and no one else before or since.
  7. Still not heard the album, was keen to hear Fish's version of Caledonia! Does anyone do Good Time Love?
  8. I was on the guest list for the Frankie Miller tribute and then couldn't make it, I'll never get over that. I've been a fan ever since JUST A BOY'S GAME!
  9. Fear not, I won't be up for a week or two yet, in fact the last week of November it seems now! Sorry to hear about the mumps, no fun at any age! Gutted about the beer situation, can't do bottles! I'l have to explore your whisky selection...Lagavulin?
  10. Don't forget the "aye aye" woman on King St by the cemetary, and the mad heather lady. And Peter Dow and Howling Mad Murdock!
  11. Tattoo man, he scares the shit out of me.
  12. Killers are fantastic, Mr BRIGHTSIDE got me hooked (although the single mix is better than the album one IMHO). One tiny bit of it always reminds me of To Cut A Long Story Short by Spandau, not sure if that's good or bad... The abum was a good 'un too, was strange, felt like I'd be a fan for years when I first played it, there's so many tried and trusted elements of other things in there and yet they have their own sound. ere's to them. Modest Mouse anyone?
  13. To be honest I'm more 60s and 70s, there were only a few 80s prog bands I was really into, Pallas I saw live alot, although never with Euan Lowson, loved IQ and Marillion, but didn't really like any of the others...well Citizen Caine were fun if truth be told. Much more at home generally uincovering rare albums by the likes of Mirkwood, Family, Renaissance and Jimmy Campbell!
  14. Tippi/ Lift at Drummonds Caught this gig a month or so back...was very impressed. Had never seen LIFT before having been away from the city for some time and thought they were tremendous, and TIPPI...why isn't she a huge star? The single is terrific, in a good way it sounds like something from 1979, very new wavey and with a bit of balls.
  15. Blimey, somewhere else to blow my hard earnt in as well as The Cavern record shop whenever I'm back in town!
  16. If it serves Deuchars IPA too I'll just be in heaven. Or Bass.
  17. Just been briowsing about and seen the pics of the place....f*** me! I CANNOT wait for this!
  18. How fabulous to get such a response. Yous are a dandy band a folk. Actually I'd opt for Clutching at Straws or just a shot of Grendel (for the guitar solo!) Pallas...I'm a Sentinel man personally. IQ anybody? Blimey in all the nine years I lived in Aberdeen I barely knew another prog fan! Am only back for a visit, seeing ma folks who live in Portsoy, but stopping off in ma favourite city for a couple a nights first. Thursday sounds like a good one to be around for
  19. Wow! I haven't been in the Moorings since I left Aberdeen seven years ago, but it sounds like its even better than it used to be! I'll be trekking home in a few weeks and really look forward to checking it out! Dare I ask if there's any Marillion on the jukebox or will I be barred for even asking!
