  1. Balls!! Same night as Major Matt Mason USA and Pantsuit. Sorry but antifolk wins.
  2. Bummer missing out on Logh in Aberdeen but Logh in Glasgow will just have to suffice. New Logh album (A Sunset Panorama) out on Feb 21st. New Denison Whitmer album (The River Bends...And Flows Into The Sea) out on 12 Feb too. Both on Bad Taste.
  3. Paul Research works with one of my mates in Glasgow and I was talking to him just before Christmas. He's hoping for a massive hit and the royalties to go with it. His and Alan Rankine's guitar work with The Associates around that time had me in raptures.
  4. Anyone old enought to remember Scot's post-punk greats, Scars, will love Lemon Jelly's new single (Shouty Track), which samples Paul Research's guitar from their 1979 single Horrorshow. Even after all this time the riff still sends a shiver up my spine. PS Their only album Author! Author! is available on vinyl in Tunnel's. http://www.xlrecordings.com/broadcast/~shoutytrack/ for a listen and a look at the video.
  5. McCall really is a jumped little prick by all accounts.
  6. I'm still on a non-chemical-induced high from Friday night. Summed up everything Drakes was about.
  7. I went to Rock am Ring in 1986 and 1987 and it was far less rawk orientated than it is now. 1986 headliners were Simple Minds and James Taylor and in 1987 it was The Eurythmics and David Bowie. Ah so many memories!
  8. Now Aerogramme have cancelled their KEF gig on Friday, why not pop along to Drakes instead.
  9. I see Aerogramme have cancelled their Aberdeen and Perth gigs this week.
  10. The only thing better than watching bands in Drakes would have been watching bands in my own living room. 2004 was a cracking year to bow out on and I wish everyone all the best in their future endeavours.
  11. Anyone hoping for more than a crush on the lovely Ms Gir should be aware that I am going to Blackpool with her this year for the annual George Formby Convention. Ukulele players have all the fun.
  12. Nobody should pay any attention to the charts after the age of about 14 or so.
  13. I had a couple of pints with Piney on Friday (with Mrs mmd040 I should add) and she's very excited about coming to Aberdeen, so let's not disappoint. This weekend past she was recording a new video at MTV studios, all paid for by MTV! Don't miss this opportunity to catch her before megastardom strikes!!
  14. In no particular order: Herman Dune, Broken Family Band, Caley Backpackers, Edinburgh Raveonettes, Astoria, London Comet Gain, The Radio Dept, Bettsy Trottwood, London Track and Field POW alldayer, Barfly, London (particularly The Radio Dept, St Thomas, The Loves and Herman Dune) Major Matt Mason USA, Dr Drakes Schwervon!, Vermont, Dr Drakes Bloc Party, Lemon Tree Truck Festival (particularly Lach, Electric Eel Shock, Piney Gir, Chikinki and Ella Guru) Lach, Lemon Tree Broken Family Band, Cambridge Folk Festival Chris TT, Thomas Truax, Sgt Buzzfuz, Dr Drakes Trachtenburg Family Sideshow Players, King Tuts, Glasgow Sons and Daughters, Lemon Tree Charlie Parr, Dr Drakes Any other Interesting Music night that I've forgotten
  15. I can't comment on the album but I saw them in London earlier in the year and almost fell asleep during what was a painfully dreary set. Explains why I can't comment on the album really.
  16. A great night in store. Prepare to have a crush on Piney by the time you leave the gig. 2005 at Drakes looks like it may rival 2004 for quality entertainment.
  17. Saturday was simply bloody marvellous and please let's not say "never to be repeated". A night like that must be repeated. Sgt Buzfuz set the night going splendidly and Thomas Truax was just pure class. Like Alan I felt a little alarmed for Chris TT having to follow him but I though he was awsome. I've seen him twice this year but always with his full band. However I think his songs are far more powerful when he's solo and my oh my doesn't his guitar sound so clean. I may have convinced him afterwards to dump his band too as there are already some internal squabbles apparently. I'm not going to mention the DJ as I have to work with him and his head's getting too big to come through the door. Let's just say he did adequately getting everyone to dance, including the acts, as if we were all teenagers again. Please ignore the last sentence of course if you were there and are a teenager. Top night, top blokes and a top crowd. I doff my cap to Interesting Music once more.
  18. Jim White, The Radio Dept, St Thomas and Smog
  19. Mark E Smith should be given the freedom of the country. I can't say I've kept up with their output over the years (or necessarily enjoyed it) but no record collection should be without Live At The Witchtrials and Dragnet. Live they were (are) awsome.
  20. This is one gig I can't wait for. The Beauty Shop are simply sublime and the latest album, Crisis Helpline, is just superb. How often do we say this but well done Interesting Music. You all deserve a medal.
  21. This isn't just an Aberdeen thing. We went down to Edinburgh on Monday to see Piney Gir, Brave Captain and Blue States (well Piney Gir really). About twenty folk in a venue that must hold a couple of hundred (Subway) is pretty dismal.
