  1. I find it funny that you think that the BBC would bother their arses to read ab-mu in the first place, if they even know about it! I googled "urban music aberdeen" and apart from this thread the top hits are The Moorings, Liquid and a band called Aberdeen City. I can't imagine the researchers going any further unless they knew of existing club nights that were based in Aberdeen. Anyway, most of these documentaries are suggested by people who want to promote their own nights / clubs / bands / DJs / labels and can sell their idea to the radio station. Anyone from around here done that lately? No? Really?
  2. I will be there. Will only be 2nd time I've seen Tom the Noisemonger. I imagine everything will be different.
  3. "Going Out - Can't Be Assed" - it's background music for a 90s computer adventure game! I'm not saying it's not good, I think there is a lot of work going on in the background and it's mixed really well. "Attention Deficit" is really quite good. It reminds me of a few things, but it is a strong track. Enjoyed listening to these. So are all the instruments recorded live or are you multitracking computer generated sounds using Reason or something like that? I'm impressed with the drum tracks quite a bit! Something I really struggle with...
  4. Hi, Flat mixes to be honest. The drums sound like they were miked in a cardboard box. The bass is too low to hear apart from when the guitar and vocals stop completely. The thing to ask yourself is does it sound like you sound at a live gig? Yeah, maybe the recording is clean and there are no noticable mistakes but does it get the hairs going on the back of your neck? For me, no. That said, always good to hear of new studios. Where is Seagate? What are the prices like?
  5. I'll be in the right place this time around... missed last year.
  6. A shame as you'd have probably enjoyed the gig quite a bit...
  7. Microphones / Mt Eerie at Dr Drakes. The Alternative101 gig that seemed to start at 1 or 2 and went on forever. I liked a hell of a lot of the bands but I couldn't tell you many of their names! +others
  8. I thought I spotted Alan Cynic at Peacock Arts last night, but I was mistaken. Or halucinating.
  9. Ichi was ACE. ACE. ACE. I bought his CD. I liked the quirkiness of Rachael Dadd's musical leg warmers. Had they been on sale... I was disappointed Wig Smith was not wearing a wig. The venue really suited the unplugged (ok, apart from the drum machine/FX mic) and ramshakle approach to the gig. The rug should be a permanent feature, especially after Rachael spilt her beer all over it... Thank you IMP/Vocoustics. I am mightily chuffed I came along.
  10. I've not been on this part of the forums for about 4 years I think. Hello. Just finished uploading a new premix track - can be found on The Family Simpson on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Downloads about halfway down the page on the soundclick player. It's called "Why Don't You Keep Your Trap Shut?". I'd be keen to hear your thoughts. I'm braced for them. Braced.
  11. I've listened. The recording is nice and clear. I get MSP undertones from the vocals (but my current band knowledge is pretty shit so there are probably more recent influences too). The acoustic guitar is overly heavy on the bass frequencies and after a while that reverb begins to grate. The songs themselves didn't annoy me, but they also didn't grab me. I'm sure a lot of folk will disagree though. All the best
  12. Yes. You can download MP3s using File2HD.com and posting in yer MySpace address. But that wasn't what you were asking for was it?
  13. As long as he doesn't get a soundcheck you'll get away with it.. Stonehaven needs a late night bus/train service, but I've organised a lift. Yay!
  14. Oh yes. Oh yesyesyes. I'll be there! Love Peacock Arts as a venue...
  15. I got me a copy - luck was surely involved! Apologies to Alan Cynic for my chatterbox daughter - hope your tea didnae get cold. (she's saving the next chapter of her story for when we next meet unexpectedly!) PS: Well worth the 3!
  16. good luck & keep making ace noises! fingers crossed you make waves in pittsburgh. willing to place bets on how long until they chase you to the state line?
  17. *claps hands in festive glee* will there be kazoos?!
  18. are there many copies left? i love christmas/winter themed cds...
  19. i've just been given a dead ipod and found plenty of sites on the internet that show you how to fix the hardware bits n bobs. i've ordered the faulty part (headphone jack and hold button replacement) and it's sitting in the post office waiting for me to collect. if i can get it working i'll post all the links. but seriously, if it's still under warranty (and close to expiry) get your finger out and send it back - better you get your money's worth, you did after all pay for the privaledge of getting the warranty in the first place! if you're skint - fleece a friend: can't be that much to post it back!
  20. Duplicate vocal track and time shift by about 0.05 - 0.2 sec. Pan away from original vocal track. Add reverb to duplicate track. Basically, arse around until it sounds cool. That's my method.
  21. An acoustic with piezo pickup, a mic for vocals, a keyboard, a tape player, sometimes a stylophone. It clicks all the time but - yep, only picks up through the mic. Plus in the music club it was v. quiet.
  22. Thanks but maybe it's my pedal that has a fault? If no-one else gets the (really noticable) click... hmm... Mind you, makes a nice lofi snare sound.
  23. It's pretty difficult, far more pressure to hit the button at the right time than you do in the comfort of your own home. Plus the background noise / acoustics of the venue can put you off if you're trying to build up a consistent beat. I'm getting there slowly, but I love my Akai Headrush - only thing I would change is to make the buttons a bit quieter so the 'click' doesn't appear in my home recorded loops!
  24. I'm really interested that folk are using Woody pickups and getting good sounds from them - the reviews I've read say they're gash. However, I still use a custom piezo bluetac job I bought off eBay 4 years ago and it works "ok" - unless the venue is too busy then you die in a hail of feedback when my Headrush comes into play. Is Aberdeen becoming the capital of the loop pedal? Discuss.
