  1. i hear punk is shit. apparently. o_O and thus endeth my visit to ab-mu for another millenia. i love you all. and OP - OLO RADIO has plenty of music to listen to. hope that helps.
  2. i enjoyed both although with fred frith i was momentarily caught between really getting into his soundscapes and thinking "i'm watching a man hit his guitar with an ashtray!?". the former won out. minus points for the DJ not giving us enough time to finish our conversations (completely necessary after sitting in silence for so long - even with exploding pint glasses...)
  3. twas good - i was bleery this morning. not a good sight. right, i think that's my quota for gigs for the next 5 years...
  4. hi baz, is this still running?
  5. That Michael Gira track is pretty amazing. I have high hopes for this gig! Never really heard of him before - any previous projects I should check out?
  6. I've checked out their respective MP3s and can confirm a good night of music in store!
  7. del i am a numpty for not emailing you re the gig - sorry! the next one will be much much sooner (just when i (1) get the mixer and (2) fit the accordion into the live set) before xmas - promise! can you pm me your addy again - lost it - will send cd
  8. mornin del! you can vouch for its excellence as a recording device though! how are you doing anyway? hope all is well ian
  9. that offer would be in the two figure region (pounds not pence smartarse!) forgot to say, it hooks up rather nicely to a PC for recording purposes and if used imaginatively you get some nice warm tape saturation on recordings. there are a few "maybes" but i want this mixer - make me an offer!
  10. hi, i've had this baby for a few years now and, although i love it, there's not much room in the new "studio" and i need a bit more EQ control for gigs (and something more portable) so i'm selling it to buy a small mixer with mic pre-amp. make me a decent offer and it's yours, or if you have a mixer you'd like to trade / part-ex then i'd be interested too. it comes with AC adapter & instruction booklet. there wasn't a box when i bought it. pm me ian
  11. yayayayayayayayayayyayayayyayayayyayayaayaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh i'm on holiday so *ting* .... i'm in!
  12. i was at the tate modern on friday (before going to see Prince at O2/Millenium Dome - how weird not ONE Londoner referred to it as the dome... hmm...) and listened to a few tracks. thought it was a good idea badly executed. the only ones enjoying the music were the 9 year olds fighting for control of the headphones. most of it was hip hop / rap. yawn. mind you, would have been quite pleased to have heard a local band there. get on it. ps: while we're on the subject i absolutely loved this movie of ants moving tiny bits of confetti back to their nest. i could have watched it for hours. should i get out more?
  13. thank you kindly - on my mp3 player for tomorrow's bus back to inverurie. a new term. sob. battles though - ace!
  14. I tried posting this earlier in the week but my i/net died: thanks very very much to everyone who came along for making it a braw night. The combination of acts should have made it interesting for anyone there. Message to Luke though - swearing may be cool but for f*cks sake why the bl**dy hell did you need to swear every f*cking 2nd b*llocking word? I despair for your poor mother... honestly though I liked the (much more accomplished than my own) guitar playing and I felt you finished your set with the best 2 songs in your rep. I'll watch out for you again... David was excellent - he even threatened to play a Rod Stewart number - and I wished I had the accordion handy to accompany on Swimming Upstream. Placing of the guitar pickup was made all the easier through carefully positioned panda stickers which looked much nicer than my etch-a-sketch attempt. Really liked Steve Crawford's set - couldn't decide between Gomez or John Martyn as the main influence (although I suspect the latter). Would definitely recommend listening out for him wherever he appears in Aberdeen! A true pro. The open mic was 'loose' afterwards but I quite enjoyed a few of the folk up on the stage - including the bluesy bloke with the hat (if only the volume was about 20db quieter). Al & Shell of course I loved but then I'm biased (and deeply indebted to them travelling 300 miles for one day in Aberdeen). I won't review Gustav as I am biased except to say he didn't disappoint. Cheers again! Ian xx
  15. sounded fine through the wall!
  16. Oh.. and if you're working you can catch Gustav & The Family Simpson at The Tunnels (room 2) between 8 and 11 alongside Forge of Idols (David Farquhar) and Steve Crawford. 3 - cheaper than Amy MacDonald anyway (and perhaps more beautiful too!)
  17. Gustav Bertha & The Family Simpson terrorise your ears 4pm One Up Belmont Street Thank you kindly x PS: That's today by the way... Tuesday 14th August...
  18. hi baz, i won't know until soundcheck unfortunately. first act between 8:30 and 9 - all finished by 11 (then an open mic so stick around!).
  19. aye a new cd. mia's already been dispatched on painting-cover-art-duty (well for the first few copies anyway eh blastcap?). kids are such cheap labour...
  20. A fun fracas. It's an acoustic night. So expect electronic piano & sonic terrorist vibe from Gustav Bertha (finally released by guerilla hostage takers after a 3 year Scots absence), a mixture of samples & acoustic schmaltz from The Family Simpson, free-rhyming odes to this fair city from Forge of Idols, and the well known & loved (by someone surely!) Steve Crawford. There's also an instore at OneUp at 4pm featuring Gustav Bertha and The Family Simpson. Mark it in blood in your diary. We'll check up on you. 21. Indeed it is. I am thousands of miles away in Florida and STILL looking forward to the return to dark dank ABZ for this gig. Hoh yes. If only I can get my hands on a Headrush... *glee*
  22. GIG CONFIRMED! Keep August 14th free and your path to The Tunnels (room 2) clear! Yay and thrice yay!
  23. As my daughter's annoying (but interestingly sample-ready) Shrek toy says - "Ahm on it" Cheers Frosty - got any kazoos left?
