  1. rather than specific staff days, we do staff screenings of the big stuff just before it opens. it's not even all the big stuff, just what we have time to fit in. i can't imagine working at another site. our place is just absolute carnage all the time. it's so big that staff just run amock and it's so easy to get away with whatever damage you cause!! me and the wife typically go to see 2 films on a saturday so i've seen a fair heap of stuff this year but over the last month it's been exam season so it's been cut a bit. there's nothing like being up to your elbows in cheese sauce tho!! all that changes when cineworld ditch the serving and move to pots!! it's gonna be a sad day! /x
  2. it's a real bonus of working down here. there are a fair few famous faces in and out every now and then. the only other Q&A was The Downfall but it was just a couple of historians. luckily the quality of the film more than made up for it. there was also the Episode III press show on friday which i would have attended had it not been for an exam. some of the boys went and said it was superb. they even had a staff screening of that the previous night. stuff like that is great. but either way, having a cast pass is the best thing ever. i start a sabbatical on july 1st but i'm trying at the moment to negotiate a contract with really short hours so i can do both and keep the old cast pass. the savings it gives you mean far more than the money i'd be making. how long u worked there? spoons /x
  3. got to love those columns!!
  4. it is a classic. i used to have 2 copies but one seems to have vanished!
  5. i've got a copy of columns for the megadrive in its original box, with its original price sticker on it. 49.99!! that's value for you!! spoons /x
  6. just back. really reall enjoyed it and so did the rest of the crowd. i was shocked at how busy it was, considering what it's been like the past few days. danny boyle is a lovely guy too. he was really good with the audience and loved answering questions about things from shallow grave, right through to millions and when i was chatting to him afterwards, he was even happy bantering about his new thing sunshine (which is based on the most ridiculous idea ever) and about the ALIEN film he was meant to direct. good bloke, great film spoons /x
  7. i've seen the rainbow one and it is rather amusing but as it goes on, it's clear it wasn't put together for the purpose of screening. it'd be funnier if it was just a few jibes in a real script but it goes on too long. /x
  8. best film of the year so far has been 'the downfall.' i'm heading out in about half an hour for a preview screening of 'Millions' followed by a Q&A with Danny Boye and it seems to be getting the thumbs up from those who have seen it so far so here's hoping it's decent. /x
  9. we've been dead too, but mostly because the weather has been so nice. and there's nothing that good out at the mo. in terms of blockbusters, hitchhikers is old already and kingdom of heaven seems to be suffering from the bad US reviews. it's only the UK no. 1 cos there's nothing else!! the UGC never helps itself out tho, it just offers shite deals on food and drink that usually involve buying 50 tonnes of popcorn and enough juice to reinact the tsunami. hopefully cineworld will get their shit together and get our place in order. /x
  10. UGC was a company which based the choice of films on a selection of blockbusters bringing the crowds in and allowing select other films from across the world to be shown. it's a pretty good strategy and a lot of the best films to see at the UGCs are those which aren't blockbusters. that works reasonably well at glasgow renfield street because there are 18 screens which can mean 15 of blockbusters supporting 3 others. in aberdeen however, this isn't the same because there are less screens and so it's harder to offset the small number of people who actually go to see these films (more often than not, unlimited cardholders who bring in fuck all money.) the cinemas make nothing from showing the films, all the profit is in the food and drink, hence it's fine to show a film that only a few people go to because it makes no difference to profit in tickets, but the cinema loses out massively in food sales. cineworld, as has been stated, use the more conventional method of filling all the screens with big money films. this means that pretty soon, even people down here in glasgow will be losing out. luckily we have the GFT and the like, but it's still a bit shit. spoons /x
  11. james taylor - fire and rain black crowes - stare it cold skinnyman - fuck the hook the jacksons - blame it on the boogie paul lamb and the kingsnakes - i'm on a roll (the radio2 blues show opened with this tonight and i aboot jizzed in mah breeks!) solid! spoons /x
  12. jap fender stuff in the 80s was pretty solid as far as i'm aware. they made the killer jazz specials like duff mckagan plays. why so cheap? just in need of a quick sale? spoons /x
  13. make it mega bomberman on the megadrive and you're on! spoons /x
  14. rockport boots are specifically designed to kick people in the face with. spoons /x
  15. hoodies are tremendous! i never wear a jacket and if i've got anything on over my tshirt, it's a hoodie. i'll usually have the hood down but if it's a bit chilly, the hood has functionality over and above its coolness factor. in short, how exactly are they planning on banning hoodies and who will enforce the ban? my mum had tops with hoods, is she going to get hauled up by the police for it? what a load of shite spoons /x
  16. dude, i'd kill to jam with you. that's just my shit, but unfortunately i'm an ex-patriot living in glasgow. maybe another time tho spoons /x
  17. that gig looks like it's gonna be a belter. would love to be there. spoons /x
  18. being recognisable is handy at times but when i need to get vigilante or go on a killing spree it's fucking useless. a number of people have commented on how i remind them of sully from monsters inc which is lovely, but it doesn't help when you need to be another face in the crowd!! then again, when it gets you a free kebab, it's all good i guess! spoons /x
  19. in my times in aberdeen, i've only been in to small world once but i was a keen visitor to his old place, the marrakesh on market street when i was still a local. it was such a popular post-gig and mid-recording visit that FeSTR even gave it a mention in the sleeve notes of our 'Last of the Silent Driveby's' EP. i've been to a lot of kebab shops in my days and i'm yet to taste anything as good as the combination of chili sauce, yoghurt sauce and home-made coleslaw that lionel provides. it used to be FeSTR and black atom for a 10" and a 12" eastern. those were the best pizzas ever made! when i visited small world, lionel recognised me straight away, despite a 3 year hiatus! spoons /x
  20. fuck you, i care about students needs ;-) and to snaileen, you can vote for whomever you chose, despite who you might propose, second or sponsor. your vote would be much appreciated as well :-) as long as you're not campaigning against me again, i might make it through the day without too many tears!! spoons /x
