  1. I'd give it a solid 8. Seems like a good mix. Definitely worth the $5. Although you can pay less if you write them a note explaining why you don't want to pay the full amount.
  2. I just got round to downloading the aberdeen show just now. Love the bit where Ian asks them to turn the smoke machine off!
  3. I love the new Bon Iver album, horns 'n all. Although saying that, the most ridiculous use of a saxaphone in the history of the instrument happens at 2.20 in this video.
  4. I was having a look at the shows available through the Fugazi live series and saw that the Lemon Tree show is available for download. Thought it might be of interest for those of you who were lucky enough to be in attendance! http://www.dischord.com/fugazi_live_series/aberdeen-scotland-50499
  5. Fugazi The Cure Sunny Day Real Estate Morrissey Far Red House Painters (It would be cool if they got back together for the 20th anniversary of Rollercoaster, but its just wishful thinking).
  6. I'm a big fan of the Brian Eno album Before and After Science. Apart from a couple of ambient pieces its pretty much Brian Eno's take on pop music.
  7. Should this show not be called Scotland's Greatest Songs? Good to see the Blue Nile getting a mention though.
  8. I might be up for some guitar or bass depending on what day you would be practising. I have lots of effects pedals to put to good use.
  9. I was hoping that there might be someone a bit more local than Dennis? As good as I'm sure he is I don't really have any time to head down Fife anytime soon.
  10. I have two bass heads that are not working and I was wondering if anyone would be able to fix them for me? One is an Ashdown mag 300 head. No sound is coming out of it. The VU meter thing moves about as normal though. Its not my cab that is the problem as I have played other heads through it. The other amp is an Ampeg SVT 400T. It blew when I activated the graphic EQ on it. I plugged the cab into the other output and it produced sound but again blew when I tried to turn on the graphic EQ. Any help would be much appreciated and I would obviously pay for any parts and time.
  11. Well, no. But the guitar was pretty sparse compared to the two basses.
  12. Good shout! Hammock Style is one of my favourite albums. I often give it a listen for some inspiration for my own bass playing. Their Canopy EP is also really good. Think they split around 2000 or so.
  13. Cheers for the info! Would a heavier gauge of string prevent the E string being a little lose? I normally tune down to D, so I don't want the low string being too flappy. As for my Ripper, it is indeed a lovely bass. I'd really like a Grabber too.
  14. I love the look of this, but I've never played a short scale bass. Does anyone here have any experience of them? I usually play a Gibson Ripper (which is huge!) and a Fender Precision so I'm wondering how much the short scale will differ to them. Will it sound thinner than a full scale bass and how do they feel to play?
  15. Does anyone have one for sale? If so let me know. Cheers!
  16. I recommend Sony MP3 players. My one holds around 300 albums, has about 40 hours of battery life and is still going strong after nearly three years. To put music on it it pretty much works like a USB stick. Just plug it in and drag over the track/album/file you want to put on it. No programmes to install or anything.
  17. Click to the left of the record button and you can play the strings individually by using the letter keys on a keyboard.
  18. How do you go about adjusting the truss rod if you are changing string gauge? I've only ever adjusted it when there has been a bow in the neck that has caused problems with the playability.
  19. No jangly Marr style guitars in the way Morrissey's band play it. Instead its distorted power chords. Much like the way Death Cab covered it. Thats a link to the way Morrissey has played it for the last couple of years. And thats a link to Death Cab's cover from like 15 years ago.
  20. Yes, that is what I meant. Both versions are pretty much the same and Death Cab did it that way before Morrissey. Was just wondering if Morrissey had heard it and decided to play it that way as both are so similar.
  21. This is maybe only semi relevant to this thread, but I noticed that the arrangement morrissey's band play of This Charming Man is the same as Death Cab's cover from the You Can Play These Songs with Chords demo album. YouTube - ‪morrissey this charming man live on the johnathan ross show‬‏ As for the new album, I have only heard the single which I enjoyed. Going to wait till the album is out before I listen to anything else from it.
  22. The Viva La Vida cover came on my mp3 player when I was listening to Weezer songs on shuffle. Deleted it as soon as I got home so I would never have to hear it again. If they had tried to make it sound like Weezer it might of worked or been interesting but it just sounded like River's doing karaoke.
  23. All Weezer covers are the same. They pretty much copy the original note for note and the only bit of weezer added is River's voice.
  24. Denver Shows Register to this Fugazi site and you can download two full Fugazi shows from 2001. The sound quality is excellent and you'll get over 50 tracks. Both gigs are wonderful.
