  1. Since Mazzy Star are all reformed and touring next year I wouldn't mind a new album from them. Also looking forward to anything new that Janelle Monae puts out! The Magnetic Fields and The Shins have got new albums out next year so I'll keep an ear out.
  2. We might be lesbians, but two months is a bit too soon for a marriage proposal, even for us.
  3. The Rustie album is pretty good, but I'm sad I forgot to mention The Field album because it's great.
  4. One of my girlfriend's christmas presents is pretty dependent on her being in the country on the 19th of january. HOWEVER there might be student visa issues meaning that she might have to leave the country again/get deported when she tries to get back in on the 14th. The big pet hate here is my girlfriend potentially getting deported, the smaller pet hate is her not being here on the 19th.
  5. Nadine Dorries Melanie Phillips David Cameron Nick Clegg Michele Bachmann Rick Perry
  6. Aung San Suu Kyi definitely. Good shout Claire. I'll also say Hillary Clinton for her brilliant speech at the UN a week or so ago. Also, on a less humanitarian and more holy fuck she's awesome note I'm going with Carrie Brownstein. Also my PhD supervisor for his seemingly limitless patience.
  7. Kirsten! I am jealous of your Wild Flag seeing self. Carrie Brownstein, however, is to be loved. I cannot WAIT to see them on the 30th of Jan!
  8. New album by The Twilight Sad due out at the start of the year. I've yet to give it a listen but I'll be writing my review before the New Year and I'm sure it'll be the tits. Currently listening to 'Unsilent Death' by Nails and reeeeally hoping they've got something new out this year.
  9. It's the horns on the Bon Iver album man, the horns.
  10. I'm Lesley, or 'LD' at the bottom of my reviews. The last thing I did was the JoFor review. And now this Top 10 shenanigans. I totally forgot to even mention Bon Iver and St. Vincent. Both cracking albums, especially the St. Vincent album. Also, Jake, Spotify has been an absolute gem in my mission to listen to albums from this year. £4.99 a month is a fucking steal.
  11. I REALLY liked the And So I Watch You From Afar album. It was good. I forgot to mention Bon Iver and St. Vincent as well. FUCK YOU 2011.
  12. Yeah, but I had to make a Top 10 for Hercules Moments so I figured I might as well kill two birds with one stone. They would be in any Top 20 I made.
  13. Here is my top 10. It's not really in any order apart from number 1 which should come as a surprise to no one who knows me. 1. WILD FLAG – Wild Flag 2. Men – Talk About Body 3.King Creosote & Jon Hopkins – Diamond Mine 4. PJ Harvey – Let England Shake 5. Kate Wax – Dust Collision 6. M83 – Hurry Up, We're Dreaming 7. The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart – Belong 8. Fucked Up – David Comes To Life 9. Low – C'mon 10. The Antlers – Burst Apart I feel bad for having to leave out Yuck, Washed Out, Tim Hecker, Atlas Sound, Feist, Fleet Foxes and Tune-Yards who all made albums I listened to loads this year because they were ace. 2011 has been fucking great for music. I also really liked the new Drake album and the Jay Z/Kanye West one as well. The A$AP Rocky mixtape was really good as well but I've only listened to it a couple of times. Stuff I've fallen in love with over the past few weeks of my mission to listen to as many things as possible but couldn't put on the list because i've only listened to the album once or twice include: SubRosa - No Help For The Mighty Ones Gem Club – Breakers Craft Spells – Idle Labor Little Scream – The Golden Record Football, Etc. – The Draft Wooden Shjips – West Holy Ghost! – Holy Ghost! Okay, I'm done. Too much musics. No such thing I guess, but such a bitch for making end of year lists.
  14. Just got the last wee thing for my girlfriend's christmas present. Finished my mum's as well. Stone cold broke at the moment but have enough for the upcoming weekend in Glasgow before my lady flies back to Boston for the holidays. Looking forward to getting through this week!
  15. Working this weekend. Also have to try and write a decent 300 word abstract for a conference I'm presenting at next March. So that. Next weekend will be better.
  16. Here is a heavier offering: Textures – Dualism - Described on twitter as "Andrew Lloyd Webber does Meshuggah" it's certainly pretty 'epic' sounding? Anyway, I'm drinking beer and listening to it and I'm enjoying it so maybe you will too?
  17. In a vain attempt to listen to as many musics as I possibly can before compiling a top 10 list I'm coming across some albums I would have totally overlooked were it not for this insane mission of mine: Gem Club – Breakers - Voice, piano, cello, beautiful. Chad Valley – Equatorial Ultravox - If you like Washed Out and that sort of sound you'll probably dig this Julianna Barwick – The Magic Place - Lady + keyboard + looping vocals = magical sounds
  18. Oh well then. It was some other tall ginger bloke.
  19. Think I saw Nefarious C walking along Union Street today. I was at a bus stop around 1.20-ish this afternoon outside the phones4u shop.
  20. Well, that's one of our neighbour's considerably large trees gone. Also a wheelie bin went flying down the street managing to miss a lot of parked cars. There is now what appears to be a scarf, or christmas lights, strewn across the street outside.
  21. That's the one. I've had a few done by Paul Slifer there. Top guy, top place.
  22. I've listened to these because of this thread. In addition to the others mentioned that I haven't listened to yet I have no idea how I'm going to construct a top 10 or 15. Too many musics. The new Drake album is pretty great. Then there's that Kate Bush deally that's brilliant. Also Nils Frahm. And now all these. THANKS. Btw, the Football, etc. album is cracking.
  23. One place I definitely want to live is Portland, OR. Fucking LOVED it there. Although maybe after a while it would grate on me. But I doubt it. Friendly city, lovely places to visit, best Thai food I have ever eaten and I have friends there too.
  24. A late potential entrant for my albums of the year list: King's Daughters & Sons – If Then Not When Perfect wintery listening.
  25. Och, Aberdeen isn't bad at all. I get SAD fairly regularly around this time of year but to be honest I'd get it anywhere north of a certain point of latitude around winter time. That said, I'm keen to live somewhere else for a wee while once I finish the PhD. Glasgow would be first choice, then Edinburgh, but outside of that I'll look at most places and if I get a good job offer in Aberdeen I'd be daft to say no. I've got friends and family here, there's a decent amount of great places to go out for food and beers and if I get sick of it I can hop on a train or a bus for a weekend away. Nae danger. As for safety, from my point of view as a homosexualist, I feel perhaps a tad safer holding my girlfriend's hand/giving her a wee kiss in public in Glasgow then I do Aberdeen. But only a tad. I should point out that this includes having abuse yelled at us by a dickhead in a passing car in Glasgow which has never happened in Aberdeen so I'm not sure how I came to this conclusion.
