framheim
aye it's tasty. you get a few different varieties. we got some when we were in cornwall as it's more popular down that way. you could make your own but it takes bloody ages.best bet is to try and get some online or at a delicatessan. Larsen B
What is mead again? Is it honey and wine or something?
Stripey
it's a mixture of water and honey which has been fermented...

Both stock Moniack Mead which is IMO nice & not as cloyingly sweet as many other brands. Tesco often has it on a special IIRC.Lurgashall Winery sell online:Lurgashall WineryTheir "Old Jenny" spiced mead is excellent - Again not so sweet. Their Walnut Liqueur is similarly excellent - Especially when drunk with a big plate of cheese. Otherwise, mead is dead easy to homebrew yourself but does tend to taste utterly vile & gets you slaughtered like no other form of alcohol. Avoid hippies bearing plastic gallon containers of homebrew mead like the plague! o_OIf you want a good nibble with mead, those big coarse oatcakes go well - again, probably a good antidote to the sweetness of some forms. Marsh
Your best bet is to go around any of the castles in Royal Deeside and locate the "shoppe." In amongst the "clay doddies," multitudes of toffee & tablet and pipers in boxes they have for sale the finest mead money can buy.My Richard - Stilgoe look a like friend often indulges in this unique drink and I often "tap a scoof" off the lad - It's bloody fine but only in small doses. No doubt techteurs everywhere swear by it's "medicinal qualities." It's that kind of drink. Probably also a bit like Marmite.
Sue Denim..
Talk to the guy in 'Merlins grove' or whatever it's called on King Street. I heard he makes the stuff. He might give you some brewing advice or something.
HairyScaryMark
I will make a point of looking again in Tescos for Moniack mead as it appears on their mail order website but I am doubtful my local tescos stocks it.That website sells by case and I have never tried Mead so no idea if I will like it. Looks like they have stopped doing single bottles then. Although I've usually bought from them at one or other of the events they come to up here. Chris
The top link when you google "mead" sells by the bottle, half bottle and miniature bottle:Shop Online with Lindisfarne Mead
Lemonade
It just tastes like honey, I spose it would be a'right if you like honey, but I canna be doing with it. My dad's had a bottle of mead in the cupboard for like 15 years cos no bugger will drink it.
HairyScaryMark
Might have a quick look in a couple of Deli type shops and supermarkets and then order online with 1 bottle if I don't find it there. Thanks for information everyone. mmd040
Mrs mmd040 is from Northumberland and we had a 25L drum of Lindisfarne Mead delivered for our pre-reception wedding drink. Boy does it do the job. Apt too as mead was traditionally drunk by the newly married couple under the new moon. Hence, "honeymoon".

french_disko
My gf bought some mead from Haddo House on Saturday and she claimed it was better than Lindisfarne Mead, it all tastes pretty horrible to me surely being a Jester you'd be part of the target audience of mead suppliers? I'd have thought you'd have been quaffing it down while giving it some hey nonny nonny?
pogofish
Oddly enough, earlier tonight someone totally unconnected with this board told me that Buckfast do a very nice mead as well as their more famous drink.
