A.Pel
Next weekend I will be in London with a night to kill. I have never been before and I am very excited.I am staying near Hamstead Heath; but I don't fancy doing a George Michael...Is there anything to do which does not involve more than 30mins walk, and is cheap?p.s How expensive is everything? ash.
not sure if you're going to be using a lot of public transport but if you are deffo pick up an oyster card, they save you a tonne!
Alvin Starclusk
Oyster cards are more like season tickets, what you want is a Travelcard. You'll only need a 1 & 2 zone card, which'll set you back about 4.50ish. Whatever you do though, if you're going out at night, DON'T rely on the tube/trains to get you home - make sure you know where and when the night buses are. The tubes at night are prone to never turning up and taxis cost a small fortune (I once spent 40 getting home from Brixton). There is of course nothing whatsoever to do in London of a night, but if you must insist on trying to find something, have a look here: http://www.timeout.com/london/
Bodast
It's fun to go to Epping Forest and listen to the Battle of Epping Forest by Genesis. You have to go to the end of the red line and then go for a walk though (I hear it's actually closer from Theydon Bois than from Epping station, but it's a pleasant and tranquil enough walk). delboy
cor a 1 and 2 zone travel card is around 4-50 now??? jesus when i lived in london in the mid 90's it was 3-75 for a zone 1-6 card (which does allow you to take the treck to epping forest)camden a good bet, i was there during the height of brit pop and the place was buzzing i'm sure it still is. underworld do good club nights and you get a fine pint in the dublin castle both are right near the tube station, there used to be a weatherspoons just down the road if you take a direct right out the tube station on the left hand side, good to get stocked up on cheap drinks. and since your there at the weekend go to camden market if you get chance, well worth it. yep i'd go for camden! though it can be pricey mind.shit i'm going to london for the first time in six years next weekend, a thankfully brief visit involving a couple of trains and using the tube. Stray Cat
Zone 1 & 2 travel cards are £5 or £3 for a single. If you're free on the Friday head to the Purple Turtle.
pogofish
Oyster cards are more like season tickets' date=' what you want is a Travelcard. [/quote']I'd say Oyster as well. They have been restricting Travelcards for some time now, prior to doing-away with them altogether in favour of pre-pay Oyster for visitors/non registered. The weekend Travelcard was no more the last time I was in London, you could only get 1 or 3-day cards instead.
lepeep
head to tate modern, it's free, and pretty impressive.the south bank is a great walk, and you can cross the bridges and get a feel for all the london sights.if you are a veggie, head for Gabi's deli on Charring Cross Road (just opposite leicester square, up the road from trafalgar square)...brilliant falaffel and humous....boy do I miss that for my dinner.there is heaps to do in london for fook all, even walking about at night was ace.PS, don't bother gettign the tube in the centre of town, everything is pretty close, you'll find....(inside zone one, that is)

Sam 45
Wonder about Leicester square (i saw Ricahrd Bacon there last time i was in London) for a while - buying lots of shite junk food as you go. Avoid the London Eye, it's bollocks. Carling sponsored busker spots are ace.

Guest DustyDeviada
If you are into guitars, check out Denmark Street, just off Tottenham Court Road. The prices are crazy but worth having a window shop.Soho's always good fun too, and close by.
HairyScaryMark
I am not greatly clued up on London but I would like to warm people that not everything is close and walkable. Looking at a map might be a good idea but you may fail to get a sense of proportion from that. Soho leads onto Picadilli Circus which leads onto Leister Square. Denmark street is over rated. It is interesting for a wonder but the staff in some shops are rather hostile towards customers. Some of them are always busy and others are very specialist.I think all the main museums and art galleries are now free. The National Gallery is at Trafalgar Square and there is a number of other galleries and museums at places you might go anyway. I have never been in London at an age when I had an interest in the night life so I have no opinion on that.Covent Garden Tube Station is a short walk from Covent Garden. I still believe London is one of the most interesting places to wonder around in the UK but also can be one of the most tiring.
