I got to the site via Isthismusic? ...but nae great PR having to look for it via other sites.

I agree about the Edinburgh thing too...what's that all about?

Does anyone know who chooses the bands btw?

There's not much they can do about search engine rankings especially with two common words like go and north. Searching for gonorth works though.

There's a small group of people, don't know who, that listen to the demos. Obviously it's not just about demos though.

The whole point of GoNorth is to entice record company and media types to Aberdeen, so having a press launch in Edinburgh, which is close to Glasgow, makes a certain kind of sense, since most of the national (Scottish) record company and media people are based there.

And that's why it's not just about the demos, to get these people to come, they have to provide bands that there's an industry "buzz" about, otherwise , like most people, they just won't bother going to see a bunch of bands they've never heard of.

It was launched at a club night called 'Born to Be Wide' which is a music industry night for music industry types hence launching it while they are all in one building indulging themselves...

"GO NORTH TO UNVEIL LINE UP AT BORN TO BE WIDE

Go North is to reveal the line up for this year's event at a special media

launch in Edinburgh on Thursday (March 30), hosted by scene night, Born To

Be Wide, at Edinburgh bar The Street (2a Picardy Place).

The media launch will take place from 8pm-9pm and will reveal other details

of this year's event. Following the launch, goNorth organisers Shaun Arnold

and Caroline McLeod will take to the decks to play their all time favourite

records. Also getting into some self-indulgent Djing will be Aberdonian band

Hookers Green No1.

Born To Be Wide was launched over two years ago to provide a meeting point

for those involved in the Edinburgh music and arts scene. Each fortnight it

invites bands, labels workers, music journalists, and promoters to do a

self-indulgent DJ set."

Not from what I heard. At least one band got through coz there mate was a selector. Now if I was said band I would not be shouting about it. But it just reinforces my opinion on GoNorth

What a shame they haven't learned since last year, and again decide to shit on anyone who actually submitted a demo. At the meeting held after last GoNorth debacle we were promised this was not the case and the only exceptions were the younger bands, well it would seem yet again we are lied to and GoNorth have learned nothing. As I said, a shame if this is the case because the line up seems to be good, but imo no-one should be getting in if they cant be arsed to submit.

Cheers

Stuart

ah the yearly go-north debate' date=' do you need a laminate to get in to the GN gigs or are the general public allowed to attend?[/quote']

Laminates will be available for those that choose to be seen as important or a knob! If you are 19 and in a band they are a great for a feeling of relevance otherwise to be avoided in the knowledge that you are assured in your personal identity. (there are cases where they must be worn though, just so others know who you are; Glastonbury, T in The Park, a film set)

All gigs are free and open to everyone! Wednesday the 10th, staccatoooooo set and Found! Best free scottish accent gig of the year. I have no idea who else is on the bill yet but it should be a blinder, as will most of them this year, which is nice...

J

ps

To the best of my knowledge every act submitted a cd and app form in the appropriate manner.
