vide infra
just want to check about this gig apparently at the tunnels on 8th january. Its being put on by silver fox and there are ten bands, who have all been given tickets by this promotions company through myspace. It seems a little shady just want to check if there are any other bands who have been given tickets and that the tunnels even has the event booked. Its just silver fox want 100 from each band through ticket sales on or before the 18th of december, which seems a little wierd.
Parity's Fall
hey.we spoke to silverfox avents about this before, and they offered us this gig. they told us the first 20 ticket sales would go to them, and each band could keep the the money they make after that. Tickets were priced at a fiver yeah? For example, if your band sold 21 tickets, you would make 5, if you sold 30 tickets, youd make 50.We decided to turn down the gig. Is your band playing?Steve
Sam 45
Yeh we turned this down as well. Not to sure how genuine it all is.

Cloud
I couldn't possibly comment on the booking (ask them yourselves, via Fezmonkey on here or via The Tunnels on 01224 211121), but I can comment on such a setup. It's nothing but a pure scam - why would any band need to sell 20 tickets at a fiver each so well in advance for a local band gig? You can get gigs piss easy, regardless of who you are - so actually paying £100 a month in advance means "the promoter" (I use that term very loosely) is up £1000 before the thing even kicks off. I can't comment on the cost of hiring The Tunnels for commercial reasons, but it's safe to say that they'd be up at least £900 on the night without even having to pay anyone. Chances are, if they were guaranteeing 200 in the venue so far in advance, they would probably be able to negotiate free hire.Whether The Tunnels would entertain such pay to play bollocks is another question. I would hope they wouldn't honour such a booking, though. Can you link me to the "promoters" myspace page? In short : if you're being asked to pay in advance for anything as far as local gigs go, you're being ripped off, it's as simple as that - the only fair way to do it (if ticket sales are determining pay, and even that shouldn't be happening if it's an all local band gig) is to collect the money on the night of the gig. It's frankly ridiculous that they're not paying bands until they've made £100 in ticket sales from each band.I found their myspace at http://www.myspace.com/silverfoxevents.All I can say is - stay well clear, you have absolutely nothing to gain by taking part in this and everything to lose. soundian
PAY TO PLAY- FUCK OFF Hiring out the Tunnels will cost you half of what they are charging for one band. DO NOT LET PAY TO PLAY INTO ABERDEEN. IT IS A VILE AND MALODOROUS PRACTICE PERPETRATED BY "PROMOTERS" WHO ARE TO LAZY TO ACTUALLY "PROMOTE" And relax. EDIT: hopefully the Tunnels were unaware of the use to which their fine establishment would be put to by these charlatans
Teabags
Hi. Silver Fox Events are organising a massive all day gig at the Tunnels in Aberdeen on the 8th of January 2006 and wondered if you would be interested in playing this gig. There will be about 10 bands playing in all therefore a lot of potential exposure to new fans to broaden your fan base. All you have to do to seal a place on this gig is to tell us what address to send tickets to for you to sell! We give all bands 30-40 tickets (their choice) in which we get the money for the first 20 and they get the money for the rest! Tickets are to be sold for 5 each giving you a potential profit of 100!I hope you are interested in this offer and look forward to hearing from you soon.Silver Fox Events Get fucked' date=' find some other mugs to make a buck off and stop sending us this pay to play pish.Dave - Filthpact[/quote'] Pay to play? You dont pay anything. You sell tickets give us the first half and keep the rest that is not paying. Paying would be you giving us money out of your own pocket. We give bands a great opportunity to grow their fan base but if you are not in it for that then no worries. Thanks anywaywankers. Sam_b
how the toss would anyone fall for this?By not mentioning anything about paying money in advance. I've ended up with a heap of tickets (money which I presumed would just go to the venue, then divvied up to promo company) and a request for a 100 cheque. Fuck that, i've not signed anything so i'm gonna send them back.

We DO NOT want pay to play to get started here so please don't fall for scams like this.
Jim Stax
...Can I also direct you ,bands, toward an Edinburgh venue that is working to the same level. GIG are using this method as well. We, staccato set, have actually played our date but we whole heartedley bucked everything they were asking of us. We knew what we were getting into and played the, our, game but they completely screwed up and had to agree not to seek money from us... we were pulling the gig the weekend before but since they hadn't sent us the tickets to sell, and expected 300 worth I may add, we felt we could play it as a 'loss leader'. Great fun, shit attitude and we have to invoice them for a whopping 14 which has been done and we are still waiting... Avoid at all cost please. Jim gellatly is a good friend though and it pains me a little to give his night adverse publicity... But this sort of thing is creeping north and needs to be stamped on. It is one thing for a band to know that they willlose or not make money at a gig but another to be asked to pay... Since this date we collectively agreed to 'fuck the corportae gigs'... That said though...

Chris
I've moved this thread to music discussion as it's not really a gig announcement, more a gig denouncement (arf). hopefully more people will see it in it's new home as well. FezMonkey
Fuck! Just stumbled across this thread. Will be going to the Tunnels now to investigate. Will post if I find out anything. I can pretty much safely say that we would never knowingly have anything to do with this sort of bullshit, and I can only hope that those of you who have had associations with the venue know that

FezMonkey
Official Tunnels ResponseI have just spoken with the owner and was reassured that The Tunnels had no idea about the unethical actions of this particular promoter. We will be in touch with him tomorrow and the night will be cancelled. However, bands which had been booked by Silver Fox to play Jan 8th may still play at The Tunnels, but with all monies from the door being split between the bands, as is customary. Could any bands who ARE booked for this, please PM me ASAP to make the necessary arrangements. The Tunnels apologises for any inconvenience caused by this individual and strongly advises any other band against dealing with him.Rebecca McCrumPromotions AssistantTHE TUNNELS
