Cloud
24 pounds an hour?you're kidding, right? And isn't soundscape "the business" these days instead of Protools? Not that I know very much about making music, but 24 an hour for a studio with no real "name" is incredibly hefty.Charging 24 an hour to practice is ridiculous as well, you could have three hours at the lok-up for that price. spellchecker
24 pounds an hour?you're kidding' date=' right?[/quote']????Do you think that's overly expensive or something?I haven't heard what that place puts out, but in any case 24 p/h isn't extortionate. oceanrockstudios
OCEANROCK STUDIOS ratesHiya! The studio cost 32K pounds to build and equip so this cost is right. oceanrockstudios
Rate for practice is not 24 per hourBand rehearsals at OCEANROCK STUDIOS are guided rehearsals with Nathan Edwardson in the studio teaching the band songs and working on timing. These are the 24 per hour rates. Note that during these sessions we record the bands as well !!!I do not hire out the studio for unaccompanied rehearsals, cos this is a recording studio.Hope this helps!Cheersnathan

oceanrockstudios
Stuart - good point about bands being in a studioStuart, I get your point about young bands being in the studio. Well, i use these sessions as a combination of grooup teaching and also an introduction to studio technology. As a result, the bands go away for a month and then come back having done their own rehearsals in their garages and they are rarin to go! Also, most of the bands who come here are already gigging and they use me to really teach them how to play the songs properly. Thanks for your post!nathan
Cloud
*blink*if a band can't play their own songs properly, what on earth are they doing in a band? :|
Hog
I think the prices look pretty decent
Frosty Jack
*blink*if a band can't play their own songs properly' date=' what on earth are they doing in a band? :|[/quote']That's like saying, if you can't play guitar, why are you trying to play one? They're learning. No-one objects to someone getting a guitar or drum lesson to make them better, this is the same thing, with the bonus of learning how to play together. Something a lot of bands could do with. Sounds like a good idea to me.
oceanrockstudios
Good point Cloud!Am with you on that one, but every band has to start somewhere !! usually most bands start with cover versions and then progress to songwriting, but for some that shift can be quite scary!! So what I do is help them write, arrange and rehearse their own material. After a while their own songwriting improves because they feel confident that their own material is as vaild as the cover material. So, they put their original songs into their live shows, and depending on audience feedback they are left alone, reworked, or dropped !!Cheers, nathan
Chris
24 pounds an hour?Their prices actually seem pretty normal. Certainly comparable to Toms and other studios. Not that I know very much about making musicExactly.
MTA
You could have Me at www.The-Byre.com for about 22 per hour (based on day rate) With the right gear
Ollie
howdy, only ever recorded stuff at exile so im a bit unsure what the deal is. Could someone maybe answer a few questions for me? Just wondered if recording time also included the time it takes to mix tracks and also would the band have input into what they wanted the instruments to sound like when they had been recorded.? cheers. MTA
You should book enough studio time to Record And Mix. It is your band so you have a say in how you want it to sound, But it should be recorded the way you want it and not try correct it in the mix. Ollie
nice one. so how long would it take to record and mix 3 songs , in your experience? Also would it be possible to just record then take the files home to mix at home yourself? cheers.
MTA
nice one. so how long would it take to record and mix 3 songs ' date=' in your experience? Also would it be possible to just record then take the files home to mix at home yourself? cheers.[/quote']To do the tracks well you would need at least 1 day per track for record and mix. you can do it quicker but quality suffers. when working for record co's I spec 3 days per track for the whole album, Some are done quicker some take longer. You could take the files home to mix, but remember the studio has lots of expensive equipment (1 reverb = 10k) great dest and eq's, and Monitors that are very true (also over 10k for 2) But you do have the choice just to record.. RF Scott
christ so ure saying 1000 pound for 3 songs? when we recorded at chem19 earlier this year we did 6 songs over 3 days, i guess it depends on the method of recording, and the instrumentation of the band/any additional overdubs you want to put in. MTA
christ so ure saying 1000 pound for 3 songs? If you want it done to a very high standard yes. You can do it quicker but you cant get the same finish, the basics will be there but none of the polish If it is to send to Record co's then 3 good well recorded tracks will do much better than 10 poorly recorded tracks..Fact!
