Welcome to OCEANROCK STUDIOS !!!!

The new website is available at www.oceanrockstudios.co.uk

We specialise in rock, metal, indie and electronica and have been opened for two years. Only 40 minutes from Aberdeen, accomodation is provided at 10 pounds per night. Studio rates are 24 per hour. We get the same sound as to London studios because we use the same software and equipment ! Protools, protools, protools and more protools. Loads of top equipment for you to use free of charge as well. So why not give Nathan a call at 077323 14366 or 013398 87063.

Cheers!

24 pounds an hour?

you're kidding, right?

And isn't soundscape "the business" these days instead of Protools? Not that I know very much about making music, but 24 an hour for a studio with no real "name" is incredibly hefty.

Charging 24 an hour to practice is ridiculous as well, you could have three hours at the lok-up for that price.

????

Do you think that's overly expensive or something?

I haven't heard what that place puts out' date=' but in any case 24 p/h isn't extortionate.[/quote']

Extortionate for what it is though, a studio with no real "name" - and especially considering you can get The Mill at Crathes for 25 an hour last time I checked..

Rate for practice is not 24 per hour

Band rehearsals at OCEANROCK STUDIOS are guided rehearsals with Nathan Edwardson in the studio teaching the band songs and working on timing. These are the 24 per hour rates. Note that during these sessions we record the bands as well !!!

I do not hire out the studio for unaccompanied rehearsals, cos this is a recording studio.

Hope this helps!

Cheers

Stuart - good point about bands being in a studio

Stuart, I get your point about young bands being in the studio. Well, i use these sessions as a combination of grooup teaching and also an introduction to studio technology. As a result, the bands go away for a month and then come back having done their own rehearsals in their garages and they are rarin to go! Also, most of the bands who come here are already gigging and they use me to really teach them how to play the songs properly.

Thanks for your post!

*blink*

if a band can't play their own songs properly' date=' what on earth are they doing in a band? :|[/quote']

That's like saying, if you can't play guitar, why are you trying to play one? They're learning. No-one objects to someone getting a guitar or drum lesson to make them better, this is the same thing, with the bonus of learning how to play together. Something a lot of bands could do with. Sounds like a good idea to me.

Good point Cloud!

Am with you on that one, but every band has to start somewhere !! usually most bands start with cover versions and then progress to songwriting, but for some that shift can be quite scary!! So what I do is help them write, arrange and rehearse their own material. After a while their own songwriting improves because they feel confident that their own material is as vaild as the cover material. So, they put their original songs into their live shows, and depending on audience feedback they are left alone, reworked, or dropped !!

Cheers,

nathan

howdy, only ever recorded stuff at exile so im a bit unsure what the deal is. Could someone maybe answer a few questions for me? Just wondered if recording time also included the time it takes to mix tracks and also would the band have input into what they wanted the instruments to sound like when they had been recorded.? cheers.

Cloud wouldn't know a good idea if it jumped up and bit him the ass and then shouted "hi there I'm a good idea"...

I must stop this but it is made too easy for me...

nice one. so how long would it take to record and mix 3 songs ' date=' in your experience? Also would it be possible to just record then take the files home to mix at home yourself? cheers.[/quote']

To do the tracks well you would need at least 1 day per track for record and mix. you can do it quicker but quality suffers. when working for record co's I spec 3 days per track for the whole album, Some are done quicker some take longer.

You could take the files home to mix, but remember the studio has lots of expensive equipment (1 reverb = 10k) great dest and eq's, and Monitors that are very true (also over 10k for 2) But you do have the choice just to record..

christ so ure saying 1000 pound for 3 songs?

If you want it done to a very high standard yes. You can do it quicker but you cant get the same finish, the basics will be there but none of the polish ;)

If it is to send to Record co's then 3 good well recorded tracks will do much better than 10 poorly recorded tracks..Fact!
