  3. looking at bringing together a band to do classic nothern soul covers, on a commercial basis (playing all nighters, scooter rallies etc) all thats needed is an organist. If you can play organ (hammond, rhodes) and love soul, then give us a shout! oxbow.lake@btinternet.com
  4. We're looking for a bass player we're also happy to have that person write tunes (if they want) and sing (if they want to), but also happy just to have a bass player. usual gigging activity (1 or 2 a month) mostly round the north of scotland and weekly rehearsals in aberdeen. comittment etc can be discussed. live shows are full on from funk blues soul ska latin reggae rock type thing. album about to be recorded has some chilled tunes too. band comprises:- drummer, vocal/guitar, organ/vocal/mouth, trombone, flute/pipes etc and backing vocalist. so you'd be no 7! tunes on website www.theoxbowlake.co.uk new tunes writing recorded on iphone on soundcloud page. some melancholy lots of soul/blues any responses to email oxbow.lake@btinternet.com all will be considered, age not an issue cheers andy

  8. jumping over to italy by way of er... turkey.. the kebab and pizze place on victoria road in torry do the best pizza's ive come across. especially if you get happy (as opposed to his brother grumpy) as he loads the cheese on and it kind of ends up a bit flan like. top class.
  9. I like me 45's. so 2 questions:- 1 - Have any bands released a 7" ep (say 4 tracks) and if so what experieince in getting it mastered/template and production etc have they found. who's the best on cost/quality and how did it sell? Also i'm building up a DJ stock in the hope of one day playing nothing but. 2 - Where can you buy it locally. Has anyone came across specialists? Even working from their home etc? I mostly buy northern/motown soul, ska, funk, jazz rnb type stuff. And unforunately the rare stuff i'm after I can only usually find on the net. Shops I'm ok with - i'm going to one up tonight to go downstairs and see what they have. Is hen's vinyl shoppy still open next door (dont get into town much)? I got some cracking albums there. Also Their used to be a vinyl shop in inverness but appears to have closed??? cheers/thanks

  16. Lots of good views. Doc and gord from Dundee points about genre scenes being elitist and competition in music being unhealthy etc. ive noticed how Inverness are doing something right, which was shit for live music when I lived there. They now have Top class venues and festivals etc and theyre packed with folk who wanna have a good time. May be that's the simple key folk go out to have a good time. They appear to like original innovative passionate music but they wanna have a good time. Venues packed, folk up dancing etc. Good times. So they've created this eclectic busy music scene which I notice is so well supported by local folk. Little in fighting or negativity. So it can be done. They need entertainment and tourism more than we do when we have oil (?) Not interested in scenes but Ive heard folk talk about an encompassing record company that focuses on good tunes that could sell outwith the town and Create a brand and thus promote the music scene say like postcard or belle and Sebastian did for Glasgow (creating a new/false reality!!) but I think That's just one part (if at all relevant), getting late night venues free entry good band fee, packed with folk is what breeds the scene (?). Aberdeen has sorted the bigger venues like music hall etc fine Great city lots of money to spend should be a doddle!

  18. the most eccentric i've come across recently is the last bus www.lastbus.org vegan cafe where they put on solo artists etc and the bus depot (double decker buses on either side of stage). also an even more ececntric recording studio we're playing sat 28th july and maybe fri 27th july also. depot takes 80 people max each night £5 tickets cant go wrong. i think cafe about 30????
