  1. Yeah we gigged with them a few times, they were pretty mesmerising to watch. Singer had a great voice, but the drummer was terrible for turning up without his own gear...not even sticks sometimes!
  2. Favourite bands at the moment are Min Diesel, Pinact, Carson Wells, Deportees and The Little Kicks. Some great bands who don't play anymore: Copy Haho, Toy, Fiction Action and Edgar Prais Worst Bands: Artists like Gerry Jablonski, Deadfire, The Ruckus and UTN. There are a few bands kicking about the city at the moment who play in a similar vein to these acts. I understand most of these chaps are from a different generation to me, so most of the time I can't really relate to what they're playing. These kind of bands seem to get decent crowds though, I remember UTN getting over 400 people down to a CD launch of some description at the Lemon Tree when I worked there, so hats off to them.
  3. I should also add that Northern Pioneers from Aberdeen have been nominated for best Hip Hop.
  4. Hi everyone, Quite a few Aberdeen based acts have been recognised by the people at the Scottish Alternative Music Awards, and as such have been nominated across a few different catergories. Follow this link to show your support; it takes less than 30 seconds and you don't have to sign up or give any details for your vote to register: http://officialsama.co.uk/vote/ Aberdeen acts that have been nominated are: Forest Fires (Best Rock/Alternative) Cara Mitchell (Best Acoustic) Marionettes (Best Live Act) Akord (Best Metal) Daniel Mutch (Best Newcomer) Pinact (Best Newcomer)
  5. Because it wasn't funny. (Apologies to FuncyPiece for making comments unrelated to the thread)
  6. "Y'know there's absolutely nothing wrong with it and it's amazing considering what you're paying. I'm only selling because I upagraded to the double poker chip edition; I'd keep it as a back up but I just don't have the space and need the money."
  7. Ahh. The things people do for a sale eh?
  8. I found out recently it was my cousin's ex husband who sold the Krueger Casino Acoustic to YoungA. He was pleased to sell it.
  9. Great tune, this is quite sad. Easily one of my favourite bands we've ever played with; great live and lovely people as well.
  10. Does piano get you the ladies? I'm just trying to weigh up what went wrong in my youth. EDIT: All good advice though, I may just look into tickling those ivories.
  11. I want to learn a much wider variant of chord progressions and scales. I feel when wriitng that I'm kind of running out of ideas, or have hit a wall if you will. I've been relying on a few things that I can do well for a long time but now I have more or less exhausted this rather small repertoire of musical knowledge. So I need to broaden my horizons a bit for sure; I'm pretty happy with my technical level of playing but it's my knowledge of more complex chords, scales and how they work together that I want to improve.
  12. It's one of the Stagg ones, medium sized and a bit beaten up but works perfectly. Selling due to upgrade. Can hold about 10 boss stompboxes I imagine. If you can get yourself to Rosemount viaduct between 3pm - 5pm on Saturday it's yours for a fiver. PM for contact details.
  13. I know the guy selling it. I'll get in touch with hiim to see if he still has it.
  14. We, Marionettes, released a 7 inch vinyl with two tracks (Teaparties/WaveRace) as well as another single called Garden Song fro free download. We then went on to release our debut album, Wisdom to the Wise, earlier this month.
  15. Sorry just saw this now. A quick search on wikipedia says it was released on January 1st in Canada, then it came out in the UK in February. Either way it's a really strong album! Did anybody like the Daft Punk album? I thought it was pretty horrible apart from maybe one or two songs. Not a patch on the older stuff.
  16. LOL. We had a similar experience; got eliminated based on the winning band "being able to play Free Bird".
  17. Fidlar's album is amazing. Really enjoyed the new Queens of the Stone Age album too as well as METZ.
  18. Pixies Rage Against the Machine Queens of the Stone Age Weezer Foo Fighters Franz Ferdinand (Seen them tonnes of times but their recent gig at the QMU in Glasgow was magic) Blur The Specials Arcade Fire
  19. This is this Saturday! Literally less than ten advance tickets left so please get yours now from http://www.marionettes.bigcartel.com to get yours now. Thanks! Daryl
  20. Please, for the love of God don't try and be witty.
