  1. 'Energise the workforce'. That's a good one. How much of the money they collect do they spend on hiring humourless balloons to call up businesses to tell them they have to pay the PRS money? 'We don't have any radios' 'What about the workshop?' 'We don't have any radios' 'None in the office?' 'We don't have any radios' 'Nobody listens to music on their computer' 'NO, IT'S CALLED WORKING' 'You're sure?' 'Yes, hang on, what if someone is whistling, would we have to pay then?' 'Well, if it was a recognisable tune.....' (Give me strength.)
  2. So, the radio station pays to play the track, we then pay again to listen?
  3. But he does insist on playing knuckley for chocolate eclairs. That's rough. Typical tory...
  4. Doc on the radio recently, said that long-lasting colds are infections by different cold viruses one after another. Once you've had a particular version, you're immune. They have a saying in the surgery, if one of the staff gets a cold, oh, that's a new one! And the flu is nothing like a cold, it's like spending Christmas offshore, alone, with David Cameron. All the best! Jim.
  5. The Dundee Homecraft Book. Brill.
  6. Quote: Ch Insp Innes Walker, of Grampian Police, said that as a result of the trial period in October "people had a greater confidence that they could enjoy a night out without fear of encountering drugs". I can't leave the house without the nagging fear that I might bump into someone sucking on a Fisherman's Friend. These druggies, eh?
  7. So, like, dis at mean Happy Trails is closed? ?(
  8. ELP - Pictures At An Exhibition - George St Woolies. (All I bought from the Mastrick Woolies was the occasional Airfix kit....) Am I so old? Bugger. Oh, and hunders later from Virgin in George St. (Student Grants were great, weren't they?)
  9. So who would you like me to sound like. John Snagge? Harry Lauder? Calum Kennedy? Vivian Stanshall? Bjorn Borg? Russell Brand? I only ask because the language I use with my contemporaries is that we heard from our parents; I can, and do,use standard english when necessary to make myself comprehensible to outsiders, in common with others from every region of the British Isles and the English-speaking world. The accent I have is part of who I am, and I doubt you would point out to my face, or any other mink, how much you despise it. Bemused puzzlement might ensue.
  10. Well, thanks for that link, Stripey, seeds ordered, we'll see how they go!
  11. An Evening with Wild Man Fischer on double vinyl? A couple of Siren LPs? A box set of irish republican songs, liner notes by Jean-Marie Le Pen?
  12. As far as I recall, yes, British propaganda made him short.
  13. Terrific news about the wee quine, some folks weekend's going to be better than they thought... Dare I say it, even the most hackit mink shouldn't have to worry about has her daughter been raped, murdered, or eaten? no matter what us clever, cool people think. Minkism may be a fact, it's not justification for tragedy. And although I'm pleased that the lass is home, that does not mean that I don't care about the all the other horrors perpetrated in the world, both in my name and without my 'approval'. I can actually care about two things at once. Maybe more (if I try). Jim.
  14. Got to say that is astonishing, but I think I'd get lost in fiddling with things to the point I'd starve to death before I noticed..... Nonetheless, fearsome software. Cheers, Stripey, very interesting.
  15. I think some are missing the point here, they're not talking about the writers copyright, they're talking about the publishers and the artists who recorded the song. The songwriters copyright lasts for some 70 years after their death, so the family can continue to receive something for the work. Don't forget that many of the artists who had hits in the 50s and 60s neither wrote their own material or lasted too long as 'stars', but if their record still gets played, they still get a few bob every now and then. Remember that for every Elvis or Cliff there were 20 Twinkles. And I'll let you off with the idea that by the time you're 70 you'll be pretty well set up... Aye, right.
  16. And the artist who recorded the track. Songwriters are already covered.
  17. No, it's great that we get decent samples to have a listen to these days; once upon a time your mates had to buy the album, then you had to borrow it before you decided that it really wasn't for you. Or you spent two quid and were disappointed. As I said, I was a little dismissive at first hearing, but on further reflection decided that it still didn't appeal that much to me. I'm sorry if you feel that I didn't devote enough time to the works in question, but I have only so much time left for anything, including the appreciation of music. There comes a time when the laws of diminishing returns come into play. But if it's up your dreel, grand, no arguments from me.
  18. OK, Stripey, 'derivative pish' may have been a bit harsh. Listened to all the samples again, and it's better than I first thought. That said, it still doesn't excite me much, so I'll stick with Garvey's Ghost. That may be because I'm a decrepit old gype, however; don't sweat it.
  19. Nah. Thought it was derivative pish, didn't float my oildrum raft at all. But if you like it, go on, enjoy!
  20. DNAYS, oh how Mam hated the program, she didn't get it at all! Ta, Stripey!
  21. And of course, all gingers will end up looking like Mick Hucknall; they can't be compared to Charlie Drake now that he's dead. Ello my darlins!
  22. Are we talking the snipe-nosed pliers appreciation society here?
  23. What about a nice corduroy bomber jacket from Robert Rae? A dinner jacket if you're hungry, a morning coat; you can have the afternoon off - thanks to S. Milligan ca 1957. I'll get my coat. Hey! I need a new coat!.....
