  1. There's the obvious difference in improvising within a set framework, like 12 bar bluesy stuff, which can be very open to showing-off, and a lack of emotion, and total free-improvisation where none of the musicians have any preconceived ideas about where the piece is going. I favour the latter, and particularly like some of Lol Coxhill's stuff. He has recorded things with John Cavanagh doing electronics that sound lovely. Not being a muso I'd steer clear of the framework things, as I'd make too many errors, but totally free stuff allows a poor musician like myself to join in (no doubt some of you out there will think this would be a bad thing!)
  2. I hope you're not implying that I would give the already demented drummer drugs? (I've given him more than a few lines in the past, mind!)
  3. Funny you say that......years ago it never failed to amaze me how many people involved in music didn't seem to actually enjoy listening to it. From the little I've seen recently people seem a bit more open to a variety of stuff, unless I've just been lucky with the people I've met.
  4. Supported by Dog Eat Dog, I seem to remember. (sobs quietly as wave of nostalgia washes over heart, but quickly realises that Jakey Spike Boy wouldn't approve, and kicks cat instead)

    Enya

I hate to say this Hog, but isn't Enya kind of Emo (in a shrouded in mists kind of way)? Next we'll be hearing that Jakey digs Alannis Morisette.
  6. Nothing wrong with being bored.....I would be bored at the Foo Fighters....we're all different!
  7. You should all have gone! It was another wild evening, with Puerto Muerto particularly entrancing. They transformed Drakes into a mixture of CBGBs (c76) and a German beercellar (c1920s). Thank you, Chilli & Graeme for getting them back.
  8. Not many months ago I was laying lilys on Nick Drake's grave, in the company of his sister and arranger. I've loved his music since he was alive, so this release is very exciting for me. The 7" and CD single is out now, and is cheap in HMV.
  9. Real Shocks Staccato Set the Session plus the (as yet) nameless prog/jazz monster currently being created in the depths of the Cavern.
  10. I will be there, near the front. He's always good! Then I'm off to Drakes to give something to Frosty Jack (but I'm not telling you what it is).
  11. It'll be another of those nights that the folk who don't go will regret not making the effort, when they hear how ace it was. (Sorry about the convoluted sentence, but you get my drift).
  12. Maybe we could heckle politely...... eg "Jakey is hirsute and has a secret passion for emo!"
  13. Hey...Graeme....that's a great idea. We could act all mature, and only vomit politely into the ashtrays.
  14. I was originally a bass player, and used a pick for fast aggressive stuff. However, on the guitar I NEVER use one. I kept losing the things anyway.
  15. 40s now, Hog!!!! Glad your Gran's better now.
  16. *scared now* OK....I'll be there, but I'll have to buy a ""Young Person" outfit so I don't get bullied.
  17. It is small....not much bigger than a Vl-Tone.......looks like a kiddies thing (which it was, I suppose), but has lots of nice sounds.

    Low

Sounds like a 'must-have'. I hope it doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

  21. I picked up a Yamaha PSS-6 for 3 in a charity shop the other day. It makes very nice sounds, but unfortunately doesn't have an output socket. It WILL be used, however.
