  1. Duncan the cello player has borrowed the library digital 4-track, so if any of you have useful hints for it, please post them. I was of limited help, never having used a digital one (although it's by Yamaha, like my cassette one, and the layout is similar). ______________________________________________________________________ Kitchen Cynics.........................................unlearning the guitar the easy way.........
  2. Yes...I did two compilation CDs a couple of years ago......I'll easily copy them for you, if you think you could stand it! _______________________________________________________________________ Kitchen Cynics...............soundtrack to the Timson/ShaunF thread (with Spike, of course!)
  3. Well...I sent the first live version from Drakes to an Irish label called Deserted Village who asked me for a song, but I don't know if they'll use it. We'll have to get that proper recording of it done soon.....how about next Tuesday, before the Open-mike? __________________________________________________________________________ Kitchen Cynics.................................in the gutter, looking at the sitars...............
  4. I want to go, but can't tomorrow.......I'll be at the Fudgenight one, though, unless something terminal happens to me. __________________________________________________________________________________ Kitchen Cynics................................................................................................shhhhh!!..............
  5. A big yes to that one, Ghost........sparse and lovely!!
  6. These are some of my "glad to be alive" choices........................ Kevin Ayers "Whatevershebringswesing" Shirley & Dolly Collins "Anthems in Eden" Ivor Cutler "Velvet Donkey" the Kinks "Face to Face" the Left Bank "Walk away Renee" Taj Mahal "Recycling the Blues" ("Cakewalk into Town" being my favourite good-time song) Thelonious Monk "Monk's Music" Joseph Spence "Good morning Mr Walker" Television Personalities "Mummy your not watching me" Dan Hicks "Original Recordings" Slim Gaillard "McVouty" Jeff Kelly "Coffee in Nepal" Trachtenburg Family album (forgot the name!)
  7. Dave...are you sure about the 25 years.........I was going into One-Up in the early 70s......surely it's 30 years (at least). I also have fond memories of One-Up five-a-sides at Seaton Park on Sundays, where we all kicked lumps out of each other, and occasionally made contact with the ball! I've tried to think back.... maybe it was before it was called One-Up,....when the shop was in the back of "Happy Trails", so I'm probably wrong. _________________________________________________________________________________ Kitchen Cynics.....................................what, ME, ref?????........................................
  8. Personally I don't....I want it to sound the way it was when I recorded it, but a couple of times some record companies have tinkered with my masters to reduce hiss, get wider range etc It hasn't unduly irritated me. _________________________________________________________________________ Kitchen Cynics..........................................what's EQ?.......................................
  9. Back to Mono!!!! One of my favourite records recently was the Devandra Banhart one, which was recorded straight to a cheap cassette recorder....wonderful!!! But I just love the messiness of it. Stripey loves a more clinical sound, and that's fine too, just not what I would want. _________________________________________________________________________________ Kitchen Cynics.........................................Hi Fi, Lo Fi, any old Fi..................................................
  10. I used to have a Tascam which did that, and currently have a Yamaha MT 50 which also does it. ______________________________________________________________________ Kitchen Cynics............................................all hot and bothered..........................
  11. Philip sold it for the asking price and a dark chocolate digestive. It's MINE, ALL MINE HA HA Ha Ha!!!!!!!!!!! *cough* sorry*cough*
  12. Yeah....John Cromar's experimental stuff is exciting. More power to him! ______________________________________________________________________ Kitchen Cynics...............................too knackered to add a witty signature..........
  13. My tortoise bursts into flames by Sid Ozalid. _________________________________________________________________________ Kitchen Cynics.......................................still pissed off about the Timson/ShaunF thread..
  14. I currently record straight to a 4-track Yamaha MT-50 cassette portastudio (kindly given to me by Mike Napier of the Downroads). Then I mix onto minidisc, before transferring the best mix to CD-R as a master. When I've enough songs I put out a CD-R for sale. Then I deal with the complaints from a disappointed public! (all 2 of them). I think you can get bogged down with technology, mastering etc!
  15. Sorry not to reply Chilli......it was a hectic evening! Lach really enjoyed himself though! The Battle of the Bands night was brilliant.....we missed the Void, which was disappointing, but he said he really like Daedalus, and was pleased when Turning Thirteen won. He's also been clued up about a few more up and coming local acts (you know who you are!) __________________________________________________________________________________ Kitchen Cynics.........................................keeping a finger on the pulse,(even if the patient's dead!)
  16. Lach has been added to tonight's Battle of the Bands gig at the Lemon Tree, so if you were keen to see this New York legend (and I'm NOT joking - Nicholas Cage and Meryl Streep are among his fans....he was a mate of Jeff Buckley's....Television's drummer is in his NYC band!!!!!!) perform, but couldn't afford the Music Hall tickets, then come along. It'll be a great night, and it's for charity! _________________________________________________________________________ Kitchen Cynics................................old and grey in a colourful way!................
  17. I don't know the scene, but it sounds like "Dreadlock Holiday" by 10cc. _______________________________________________________________________ Kitchen Cynics................I'm here to help! (especially if you're female with low standards)
  18. Well, I can understand why you wouldn't be going, both of you. I'd certainly think twice about the ticket price, but fortunately I'm on the guest list, so I'm looking forward to it....I've seen Lach 3 times before, and it's always been fun. He really likes Aberdeen (sensible Lach), and we are just off in search of breakfast and a map of England, as he's driving to Newcastle tomorrow (for safety keep off the main roads between 10-11 am!)
  19. I'm glad you liked it......I thought it was brilliant when I first heard a few songs from it last year.
  20. If you're a fan of Anti-Folk, then get along to the Music Hall tomorrow night to see the man who invented the genre (supporting the Fine Young Cannibals, but don't let that put you off!). His open-mike nights at the Sidewalk Cafe have spawned people like Hammell On Trial, the Moldy Peaches, Jeff Lewis, Major Matt Mason USA, Thomas Truax etc etc, and his latest album, "Today" has been getting excellent reviews. Check out his website at... www.lachtoday.com His last visit, at the Lemon Tree, was brilliant....don't miss him!!!!
  21. I've PMed for the pedal! ________________________________________________________________________ Kitchen Cynics...................................making Hendrix spin in his grave (tactfully!)
  22. I know I'm still a newbie, but please, Neil.....don't introduce bits on the profile that get more important sounding as you post more (eg I was on a Forum where new posters started as "wax cylinders", then worked their way up to tape, vinyl, CDs etc.....I thought it was very tacky!! Another had a star system....talk about divisive.))
  23. X-Ray Spex "Germ Free Adolescents" Buzzcocks "Love Bites" Patrik Fitzgerald "Grubby Stories"
