  1. That's very kind of you SSS, but I know if I joined your harem it would frighten them off....I'm a Harem-Scarem type. However I'll gladly accompany you in the downing of a drink or 2 at what promises to be a Saturday to savour.
  2. I liked the loud/soft contrast in it, but would have preferred the vocals pushed up a bit during the louder bits. Mind you I was only listening through tinny computer speakers, so I'd need to hear it properly. (It might be nice to double-track the vocals, too, although my tastes are pretty old-fashioned).
  3. He's one of those guys you feel still has it in him deep down to create something great again, with the right people around him. I saw him live twice in Aberdeen. The first time was great, but the second time he'd become somewhat of a prima donna, and flounced off in a huff.
  4. No, it's the same size but has next to no features (no echo etc), so I think it's probably either earlier or cheaper than the Vl-tone. You can program it to play notes and chords just by pressing one button though, which is fine by me.
  5. Thanks to this thread I'm seriously thinking of using my PT-20 live at Drakes at the end of the month (if I can be arsed punching in all the chords into its memory).
  6. I've never tried auto-wah, but I had a Cry Baby, and thought it was great, until my cousin"borrowed" it about 13 years ago, and I've never seen it since. I'd go with most folks in saying stick to the pedal.
  7. 1 Espers "Espers" (had a CD-R, but bought the vinyl) 2 Bob Dylan "Hard times in New York City" 3 Jack Rose "Opium Musick" (vinyl) 4 Arthur Russell "Let's go swimming" 5 Keith Christmas "Timeless and Strange"
  8. How come everyone seems to have a harem except for me? (DON'T answer that....I'm depressed enough as it is)
  9. I remember there used to be an Indian music program on Sturday mornings (Ch 4 I think) which often featured her singing. My ex-wife bought some albums.
  10. I haven't seen it yet,......Shawn of the Dead was a good laugh, mind. I can see how PM would fit the soundtrack, though.
  11. Hope your Gran gets better, Hog.
  12. Still.....it all added to the ambience of the evening. It's a good job her man didn't catch you having a look, though. He looked like one of Marlon Brando's gang in the Wild Ones.
  13. 'Fraid so. But I'm not at all happy about missing Jakey & co. especially as he'll be making snake-hips at leatherwoman.
  14. Distance drinking, with video-links to your favourite pubs'n'clubs might catch on for nights when you can't get out (like me this weekend).
  15. I WAS going to be (loved them at Drakes the other Friday), but sadly can't make it now.
  16. ....but I've just remembered that Richard Thompson is on Tuesday, so I might miss the Open-mike.
  17. The Thomas Truax night is still being discussed in awe by those present, and I reckon Puerto Muerto will get the same reaction from the audience at Drakes. When the female singer was belting out that red wine song, and bashing seven shades of shite from her floor tom I was in ecstascy.
  18. That's an excellent idea.....I could phone in sick in between!
  19. Slaughtering me would certainly put me out of my misery. (The goat packed her bags and left me because she felt we'd gotten into a rut).
  20. It wasn't my eyes I was intending putting on her, Jakey!! She was a bit bosomy, so this could develop into the Battle of the Bulge. Oh....apologies, as I'm going to have to miss SPD on Saturday due to family commitment, but I'll definitely be at the next one, so hands off leather-woman til then.
  21. Yep....I saw you waving the banner thing at Hog, and the drunk leathery wifey (I still liked her), although I didn't know it was you til later. ....just a side-on view of whoever was nearest the bar. I was just saying to Shawn the Ox two nights ago that it was an ace night all round.
  22. I occasionally staggered in drunk, without a clue as to who was playing. I remember a few open-mikes, plus a three-piece ("2female 1 male) doing quietly weird stuff I liked, an old guy (pot calling kettle black) doing a disco in the back room, and a great early Downroads gig which I bootlegged onto minidisc for Mike........I felt too old to be comfortable then, but now, years later I don't worry about my advancing years....the new Drakes is home. When I'm dead and gone and you lot out there are all pensioners Drakes will be regarded with the same awe as the original Cavern.
  23. Sorry....couldn't restrict it to 5, so.... Paris Texas The African Queen Passport to Pimlico Amelie Withnail and I Life is Sweet o Brother where art Thou Being John Malkovich Les Enfants du Paradis Repo Man
