yeah you can do everything with a dvd rewriter that you can with a cd one. you can get dvd rewriters for about 50 quid now. try the manufacturers web site for the driver, and see if there is a new version of the firmware available to download.

if you want to get the cd's out, there should be a small hole that you can fit a untwisted paperclip or pin into, if you push something into it while the computer is running, it should open the drawer.
